The eclipse was something to see. Eerie and unsettling. I didn't see anything in a mirror, though the only reflective surfaces I saw for the duration were puddles of still rainwater in the camps surrounding the Lodge. A mercy, it seems.
I got to know Iron Guard Harper better and found her very interesting indeed. A good woman, and one I am proud to serve beside.

I finally met my sister's keeper... or rather, her partner in keeping the city safe. Every day out there, they patrol through streets not always disposed warmly towards the Iron Guard. I've watched the consequences for their return on certain weary afternoons, and say what they will, the service takes a toll. Quiet erosion of ignorance in their eyes, the slip of the shoulders from one burden too many.
What troubles affect the Lowers these days, we need all the coordinated assistance and efforts we can get.
Harper is the person who acts as moon to my sister's sun, and helps counterbalance her in action. It's hard to fathom how much they do together, theirs being a world for which I barely know. But she is a good person. I like her. And I credit them both for taking on an enormous task with grace and style.

I can only create the garments with a vision in mind to work from. Sometimes that vision is mine alone and other times it is a shared experience of delight, discovery, and desires. Ultimately though, that vision turns into something tangible, something that is alive in it's own right. It is only then that the part you are meant to play can come to life truly, for the clothes you wear can grant enough confidence to be who you have always desired to be.
I did not win that, and you should never give credit away fully when it should also be placed upon yourself. The muse is just as important as the artist.

While I'm at the Archives I should make an entry about non-sword things.
After my last entry, the scholar is looking at me like he's frightened, which I want to make sure is recorded. Don't cringe, man, it's silly. A little yelling never hurt anyone, and often adds necessary emphasis. Vellichor's work isn't for the timid.
Anyway this is not about yelling about how wonderful swords are. This is about my new sort-of niece, Harper Ashdown.
I've been thinking about family of late, and how the way we define it changes as we go through life. My kin and tribe of Greenwoods will always be my family. They’re in my blood and skin and their past echoes in my soul. But there’s also the family we find and choose. Harper Ashdown and my husband chose each other as family, so she’s mine now, too. I've decided she’s my niece. I’ve got a niece already, but she’s my first found one. I like her very much already. She’s brave and true and has excellent taste in pastries, so I think I’ll keep her.

I do try not to comment in regards to journals written by others (it feels so very odd to be intruding on the thoughts and words of another person!) but scones are delightful. Slightly crispy outside, fluffy inside, and a treat when served right from the oven with the butter melting and the jam cold in contrast. I'd be more than happy to make anyone some biscuits or scones if they came by the Sleepless Knights.

I am positive you never saw Orazio playing with orphans in the Tragedy. Why, it would be like him playing ball with children on the Judgment Green, or petting a huge drooly mastiff for hours on end. Simply beyond belief.
