Relationship Note on Domonico
After some time and arranging some of the matters of my late brother's estate, I can now pause to write these words.
Brother,
You were strong-willed and passionate in the causes you believed in. Drilled at a young age within the Malvici Army which remained with you until you took your step upon the Wheel. While we may not have agreed on everything or each other's approach there was always something of mutual respect there. Respect and pride in the Malvici name.
May your turn be short upon the Wheel.

Now that the shock of your sudden passing has subsided, the pain arrests. It's not the concussive blow of impact that cripples, but the dull, restless ache that festers on and on. I have lived through many a loss, but none so unexpected in every way as yours. Was my letter delivered in time? Did the promise of a visit lift your spirits before the end? I may never know, but I choose to believe.
I regret the ill timing of my return to Arx for many reasons, but none haunt me so bitterly as losing the chance to say good-bye, my friend. I'll miss you. We'll meet again.

The Malvici trio. That is what we were known as. We each had our own talents and there wasn't much we couldn't do when we were together. But now we're down. My brother, my middle that acted older brother is now gone. Not being out at sea, not with a sword in hand. By an illness that none of us could figure out how to cure. This isn't how you were supposed to go.
My brother was surprisingly patient with me growing up. He taught me how to swing a blade. How to use my feet. If you knew my brother, you know he was always yelling, "FOOTWORK!" He was my protector when I felt that I could very easily take on all the boys when I was little. I didn't know until later, but he went after them after I came back. He was stubborn and rarely laughed, but you knew that he cared about you if you were in that circle.
The Malvici trio is missing one. It won't be the same. I don't have any more words, at least none that will make sense. I've rambled enough, which is unlike even me.

Another friend, ally has died. He has led troops to help defend Saikland, taught our sailors to be more competent and offered sound advice. He did not go as I expected him to go, sword in hand battling enemies but from illness. And now am too sad to write any more.

My cousin recently offered to put proper etiquette and social matters into military terms for me.
I am not sure I needed it, My gift for one who had their name day was well received and they only /nearly/ managed to injure a servant. I view this as a battle that has been won.

The pure simplicity of swordplay is something I needed on many levels.
The juddering impact of steel on steel demands attention. The ringing of blades blots out errant thoughts. If one's eye wanders from the opponent, one is summarily punished.
I can feel myself improving already, and have Lord Domonico to thank for that. He is a patient teacher, and I could ask for no finer instructor. It's been mere days since we first crossed swords, but I'm becoming faster, more precise, more canny with every lesson. It's statistically a possibility that I might even land a touch soon.
Still, I can't help but want to push myself harder. Time is of the essence, after all, and with all that Winter brings looming on the horizon, I have a very real deadline. Inaction and delay stifles me, like a soft weight pushing down on my throat.
There are some sharks in the deeps Arvum that are said to be ever in motion; the act of staying still for even a moment being genuinely perilous for them. I find that I can empathise.

Working up to lead the Southport Navy once again. Your dedication to improvement of your self, of those you lead and have looked up to you are a testament to the education both mother and father put you through.
