Relationship Note on Austen

Over the last year, I've been lucky enough to receive three wonderful drawings from Sir Austen. After the most recent one, I told him that I was going to hold an art show and charge people admission to view them. Three doesn't seem like enough drawings to hold a show. So I wrote to other people to see if they had any, but alas. There are none.

I fear that I've played my hand too early and he won't send me anymore.

Relationship Note on Austen

New armor -and- a new weapon, all in the same week?

I'm spoiled.

And the weapon itself ... stunning. Exquisite. If it wasn't made by Dame Ida Ferron, I'd be worried it'd fall apart, it looks more like art than an ax.

It's beautiful, all the little details, balanced, it takes to my grip and hefts like it was made for me and only me (which it was, thank you). A thoughtful gift from someone much beloved.

Relationship Note on Austen

My comrade-in-arms in the Silver Swords and a fine man...for an Oathlander. I was gratified to learn of his promotion after his good and brave service at Sungreet, for none could be more worth. It has ever been an honor to serve with him and he shall do well for all of us.

Well I wasn't quite expecting that reaction to Tanith's cake. I mean, it's good cake, but that could have been considered a little overboard. I'd hoped to get more than a single slice!

Anything worth doing is worth doing thoroughly. This gentleman did that and then some, and my warm feelings and gratitude are definitely shared. To new friendships ... and tasks done well. And thoroughly. Sometimes with tea.

And cake.

Relationship Note on Austen

Austen, old friend - you have no idea how much I needed to have that conversation. It is a harrowing experience, to speak one's fears out loud, to give them a voice and put them out into the world as a /thing/ that /exists,/ but I feel better for having done so.

I do realise in hindsight that we spent almost the entire evening talking about /me,/ however. While I appreciate, needed to, and in truth rather enjoy waxing lyrical about myself, I want to extend the same offer to you in return. If you ever need to get something off your chest, I am all ears.

I am saddened that you won't be joining me on my pleasure cruise, but I can fully understand your reasons and accept them. We all have our duties.

Relationship Note on Austen

I've been behind on most of everything, which is also why I haven't really taken any commissions as of late. My focus the past several weeks has been an alaricite claymore for my brother. It is only the second piece of that metal I've ever made and I have to say, it is probably the best quality blade I have forged in my life thus far. I pray that it will serve him well and for many, many years yet to come. There is only so much I can do to help protect him against the evils of this world, to my often dismay.

The Silver Swords grow stronger with each knight that takes the Oaths to King, Compact, and Hundred.

Welcome, Sir Austen of the Sovereign's Own Royal Guard. Long may you serve with honor and distinction.

It was such an honor to be allowed to watch the ceremony in which my brother gave his oath and joined the Silver Swords. Proud does not really cover it and for as much grief as I tend to give him, I admit that I feel somewhat humbled that I get to share a name with him. Somewhat, probably not for long, but still.

Relationship Note on Austen

There is nearly a decade between my brother and I. One might think that would lead us to not be as close as siblings who did not have as great an age difference, or that perhaps I might seem more mother than sister to him. I'm glad that's not the case, and I don't think it ever really has been. Of course I have always looked out for him, but I think he has done the same for me as well in his own ways. It is hard to put to word how important a person my brother is to me. He is one of the best knights and people I know, which I say with very little bias. Ask him. He'll be the first to note I don't give him kind words easily.

In any case, that he will be one of the Silver Swords, The King's Own, The Hundred, is something that makes me so proud. The paths and decisions that lead him here have not always been easy, but he has taken step after step with humbleness and honor. Congratulations, brother.

Relationship Note on Austen

Sir Austen Ferron has been a fine guardsman and recently was promoted to the rank of officer within the Iron Guard. It's a bittersweet moment when you lose such an outstanding member of your organization to another so that they can follow their path. I hope that we've given him some additional tools that he can utilize after he swears into the King's Own.

He'll always have allies among his former comrades in arms.

Good luck, Sir Austen.

Relationship Note on Austen

There are LOADS of moments in life where I'm not in the loop as to why everybody's excited -- always /so happy/ for them that they are, though!
It's an even brighter day to KNOW! I can think of fewer women or men more deserving of the post.

And so the (temporarily) Ninety Nine are to become the Hundred once more. We have extended to Sir Austen Ferron an offer to take oaths as a Silver Sword and he has accepted. The date and time gave been set for the induction and the Valardin have given Sir Austen his leave.

I hope Sir Austen will take the days ahead to pray to Limerance and Gloria on the monumental undertaking he will assume. Oaths to King, Compact, and Hundred unto death. Not to be taken lightly. But a great honor to assume.

Relationship Note on Austen

I have a few projects to work on and one would think with winter and people likely to remain indoors, I'd be at the warmth of the forge day and night. Instead, I've mostly just idled at sketches and been absorbing the quiet and seeming normalness for now. I felt such relief when my brother returned, bruised and battered as he was, that I guess I'm letting myself enjoy the two of us going about the days in the shop. Maybe when winter passes, we should take a visit back home; it's been awhile. Too long, maybe. The gods know letters hardly tell the tales as well as us all gathered over dinner and sharing them in person.

Relationship Note on Austen

I am not burning the door. Too many amazing people have touched that handle and used it to cross our threshold. Those are just memories that I just could never part with. We simply must never, ever jointly make a wish on it again. Or even singularly, I suspect. Ever.

Relationship Note on Austen

Apparently, it seems the door leading out of the shop is some magic (not really, Inquisition - turn of phrase) Ferron wish-granting door. Austen and I joked about it, after something happened a couple of days ago. "Haha, lets ask the door for something else," we said at the time, laughing, and then did. "They say be careful what you wish for," I said, still chuckling. No shit. Our laughter was much more wry today. While surely just a coincidence, I've no plans to ask the door for anything else. Ever. At least not with combined sibling power.
