Relationship Note on Lianne

I didn't want to commit this to parchment before I had a chance to tell her to her face. I finally had that chance.

We walk different paths. But the paths we walk are within the same world, and sometimes they cross and we have opportunities to be reminded of our shared interests and purposes. We may not always be aligned, but there is a reason I accepted her offer of patronage without a second thought: I trust her.

If you believe you can attribute a life saved to me, there is a strong chance that I, in turn, can place some credit at Lianne's feet. This goes all the way back, at least, to when Skal'dajans threatened the Compact. I had a question tickling my mind. All I could do with it was ask it! It was Lianne who heard it, who had the means of turning that question into something usable. If not for her and her collaborators, a group of us wouldn't have been able to empower the rune that went to Pieros and saved lives by making their magic exact a heavy price and effectively taking it from them.

It has always been thus: My questions are encouraged and ideas are honed. While she bestows words like "genius" upon me, I tell you that this genius does not happen alone. It happens because I have had people - including Lianne - supporting it.

I have been her midwife and her protege, so many of our loved ones are shared between us for wholly different but no less genuine reasons, and I know now what I always knew - which changes nothing about her importance and place in my life.

Relationship Note on Lianne

I'm sorry. I still don't know what to write about my ever-artful and surprising collaborator. Poet, curator, artist, dear friend. Her gallery, the Eidolon, is its own kind of metaphor. You hope that when the city is filled with terrors that the Eidolon and its works remains standing, but I know it's fallen before. Lianne has rebuilt it, and if all her collections went to ash, she'd replicate, renovate, and begin again. Malespero is its people, not its land and buildings, and art, memory, rhyme, and strength are concepts that persist even when forms you can hold are gone away. Even when hope is gone, we adapt, we survive, we remember.

It has NOT been 10 years. How could it be?

...it's been 10 years...

I feel old now.

Also, I forgot your birthday, which means, I also forgot mine. I am sorry I am so forgetful.

Happy belated birthday, Beautiful Dusk. Here's to your next decade.

No. Why would I want to continue to perpetuate such a blatant untruth?

Tsk, tsk.

Sometimes a very needed perspective arrives exactly when you need it. The Marquessa is thoughtful and so very wise, with priceless insights that have made such a difference in my life already. Thank you.

To be fair, you're the one that brought me clarity on many fronts and I hope that others can speak to people with as much openness as you have.

The Marquessa is clever and wise. You should listen to her. (And I do love poetry. Just as much as I hate toads.)

Relationship Note on Lianne

I think back to when Lianne and I first thought of hosting the Evening of Complements, it makes me smile to think about how we thought the event might go. It of course was not quite at all the way we imagined... as few plans ever take place the way we think they might, do they? But that it was different was not at all a disappointment. The evening far exceeded many of the expectations we might have had. And truly, I wish to thank everyone who attended the night at the Eidolon Gallery, those who contributed to art through whatever medium they chose, and those who enjoyed the art displayed and performed. To see so many enjoy the beauty of cultural aspects warms a heart that has weighed heavy as of late.... so.... Thank you.

Thank you too for Master Brewer Venturo, for creating the fantastic brew, unique to our event only. It was, of course, delicious, and I hope everyone got to enjoy it... He provided art through the brew, and the spinning of a tale, all in the same night.

I hope too that people were able to see what we had aimed with the theme of the evening. Complements. That even if two things seem to be vastly different from one another, there is a place in the middle of differences where the two can meet, where one can complement the other, and vice versa. For myself, I must say, I find a certain exclusive beauty in such things that I cannot find anywhere else.

Relationship Note on Lianne

The Marquessa was a co-host last eve at the Eidolon Gallery. A fantastic event, and the paintings and songs to be had there? Were mesmerizing. As expected, she probed, poked, sought to see how my luck might be explained by skill, cunning, wit or sheer intellect. And as always, it was a pure delight. I hope, but am not certain, that I shall see the day her options for reasoning away my serendipity runs dry. If only I could be so lucky!

Relationship Note on Lianne

I'm going to undoubtedly somehow butcher this statement, though it is meant with the highest level of praise and sincerity. The event that my Marquessa Lianne Malespero and Duchess Khanne Halfshav held at the Eidolon Gallery was one of the best gatherings I have had the pleasure of weaving through in a while. There was a synchronicity and serendipity that led a unique group to the gallery where amazing conversation was had around pieces of art that sparked further conversation following music, fashion, paintings, cake, maybe a delayed kidnapping (I jest). I'm sure that there were plenty of other conversations these are simply the conversations I was privy to. Praises to Venturo Thayne for creating another amazing brew from Raconteur Brewing. Thank you to all that came out.

A storyteller is only as good as the listener, someone willing to play along with the dramatic flares in a good tale.

That and good drink nearby.

Relationship Note on Lianne

It is my honor to accept appointment as Marquessa Lianne's Voice for House Malespero.

I would at this time commit to the archives a reminder of what she has done for the March of Nilanza. Who among us can say that they have transformed a city poorly governed, beseiged, and divided by civil strife into a peaceful paradise? Marquessa Lianne Malespero is accomplished in countless ways: physician, patron of the arts, theologian. She sought this challenge when she did not need to, when others happily - some might say wisely - turned away. More, she succeeds where few could.

We thrive under Marquessa Lianne's leadership. As her Voice, I look forward to further strengthening the relationships she has built with you, our good peers in the Compact.

Relationship Note on Lianne

A recent conversation with the Marquessa reminded me it's been just over two years since I started the Raconteur upon my arrival at Arx. Our debate continues between the merits of skill and luck, and how each has (or has not) played a roll in my turn of fortunes since I first set foot in this city. The key, I think, is an admittance that there is a balance to these things. I can think of no better way to celebrate my time here, and all that has been accomplished than the carnival that will be taking place tonight.

Relationship Note on Lianne

My first impression of my new Marquessa and sister-by-vows was that she was a woman of formidable intelligence, ingenuity, and a particular sort of empathy removed from mawkishness that’s all too rare in this world. This impression keeps being proven correct, in ways that surprise me and make me feel rather foolish for being surprised. There is much we’ve yet to figure out, about our lands and of each other, but she gives me confidence we’ll find something worthy in it all.
