Clover got to watch me get annihilated by the giant, Agnarr, in a duel today. Strangely, I'm fine with this - it earned me a tutor and I got to get in a few good swings... Losing isn't so bad. It's how you learn.

What an eventful day. I attended the King for a few hours and he turned out to have quite the sense of humour. Better yet, there were bacon-wrapped pickles. There was also a memorial service for the old Lord Commander and that I attend with less glee but great pride. Good men will be remembered.

I wish I could say that I expect to be such a person but truthfully it's enough for me to have a good roof over my head, plenty of money and food, and that my liege seems to be a man of the finest character. I am ready to put my life on the line with the knowledge that likely I will someday lose it.

Beats running messages and turning drunks out of taverns 'round first light.

Ha! Did you see the look on Agnarr's face today? Not just his actual expression, dour fellow that he can be, but the braids in his beard? Teach him to walk upon me in the bathing house! Not that I minded all too much. Never braided a giant's beard before...

It's a good manly beard. Ignore the part where the tips of two of the braids come together to form a heart.

Well! I've met a giant once or twice before but I don't think I've ever braided one's beard. I don't think poor Agnarr had any idea what he was in for when he ended up in the bathing house with me. I imagine he thinks he looks utterly ridiculous now! I don't know, it was kind of fun. And it's a good, manly series of braids too! Nothing to be ashamed of. Even if they do form a heart at the tips.

Relationship Note on Clover

What is there to say about Clover? Never have I had a full-grown woman fall on me thrice in a single conversation. twice is flirting and this... I something else. She's liable to be the death of me if truth be told. And yet...

And yet somehow I have found myself shopping with her. She offered to buy me a dress I did not want as a reward for helping her up I didn't need. What on earth is going on?

Relationship Note on Alaric

What is there to say? The King is as kind and generous as they have said and also very shrewd. Somehow it seems I have not been reprimanded for being in my dress armour at the improper time although the Captain was ready to write me up then and there for having done so.

I confess I should have carried it instead of worn it since I was not attending the King's duties. But it's so heavy... Next time I'll do it the right way. Every time. His Majesty deserves nothing less of me.

Relationship Note on Alaric

My duties started during your great sleep, now they will continue during your reign. May it be long and properous and may you know the love and respect of your people, who have waited with baited breath for this time to come.

Relationship Note on Rymarr

For all that I never expected to be where I am, for all that I never wanted to be singled out for an act that I deemed necessary and not heroic, for all that I kicked and screamed during those tedious lessons of etiquette and for all the times I fell off that blasted horse in full steel armor... no man has ever held my respect the way this man can. He understands duty, he lives it, he breathes it, he embodies it. He is not some man playing at the game of responsibility, he is not a child pretending to be something he is not. He is a stalwart champion of his king, and a man I am proud to call my mentor.

And you know, damn well as I do, that you can catch an assassin behind a door if you open it hard enough. They make a lovely squishing sound if you hit it -just- right.

Relationship Note on Silas

He may have still been in puberty when I was hitting the whiskey bottle with my friends and family in the Iron Guard, but his potential to be what the Guard needs to straighten itself out is what makes me certain that he will succeed.

So long as he keeps his head in service and his mind sharp as his blade, I shall look forward to my duties as liason between the Iron Guard and the King's Own.
