The first meeting of the Blissciples was a fantastic experience. Met a Nox'alfar for what I believe is the first time. Saw the heartbreak in their eyes when they were told they couldn't duel to the death. I readily witnessed that they are, in fact, fervent supporters of their very favorite Champion: Bliss. And why wouldn't they be?

I finally learned what a Folly is and oh muh goodness, journal. It's both terrifying and exciting, especially when recounted by an exceptionally talented storyteller. Even thinking about it as I write this I feel a shiver lance up my spine. The intensity of it is apparently second only to fitting some significant assets into an Oathlands corset!

The meeting was a success in my eyes and I count myself quite lucky indeed to both have been in attendance and be recognized by the Champion's Champion herself as her Chief *Arvani* Blissciple.

I'm roughly ninety percent certain that I slip up again and I identify myself simply by Chief Blissciple, I'm going to have a lot of murder-happy people looking to prove they are the bigger fan. They also introduced me to an entirely new concept: you keep what you kill.

I kind of like the idea of them keeping that custom to themselves.

Relationship Note on Valerio

The rest of the manor is dark. I've been hidden away under the Marquessa's bed for at least an hour. I've heard her sigh a number of times. I can only imagine that she's focusing on the task of writing about her uncle. I snuck in here two hours ago, hoping to spring out from under the bed to scare her, you see, journal. I knew that waiting may be demanded of me for the perfect opportunity, so I brought supplies with me so that I'd have the means to complete my oblations to Vellichor. I didn't realize that I would be here for so long. I can't feel my legs, journal. Since I do not wish to disrupt her own observations of her duty to Vellichor, I'll just refrain from sliding from beneath the bed while shouting 'oogity boogity gimme that booty'. For now.

I've had plenty of time to think about the fate that befell Lord Valerio since I've been trapped down here. I've spent time reflecting on how far the personal relationship between Valerio and I had come. How much was achieved in setting the past to rest. You see, when I married into this family, no one thought to say 'Hey, Hadrian, your cousin killed my uncle's wife'. Naturally when I met Valerio and he met Lucien Malvici's cousin, face to face, there was certainly some tension. It never came to blows, thankfully. There was certain verbal threats thrown my way. Each time I would simply seek to mollify the big, disgruntled man with understanding. I understood his anger. I didn't feel the same toward him, but I understood his toward me. I was a convenient target that was, by blood, adjacent to whom he wished to really exhaust his fury against.

Our relationship began on a foundation of tension. Which is unfortunate, but the world is often imperfect and frequently we must work from a starting point that could only be called disadvantageous. Over time though, Lord Valerio and I grew. As my work began in and around Ostria and the House which Lord Valerio loved, as the Voice of Marquessa Cambria Mazetti, he began to understand. This is my House now. This is, whether either of us liked it or not, where I needed to plant myself and grow. Was it ideal for either of us? It was unequivocally not. It was the situation we found ourselves in so, with time, we recognized as responsible people that we had to put aside our differences in order to work toward common goals. In that we learned in our ways to respect one another. I discovered Valerio to be the sort of man that could be passionate and fierce, but also warm and inviting. A wonderful friend and a terrible enemy. I began to recognize him for the man that he was; brave, dedicated, loving in his own way, hilarious, protective, and more. With time he realized that I was not my cousin and was not out to drown puppies and headbutt babies. Onward we progressed until I became comfortable calling him my family and I can only hope that I reached the same in his eyes.

A man with a penchant for spicy cheeses, brandy, bull balls, and in possession of more body hair than was necessary on any one human being. He will be missed. After the upcoming memorial in his honor, he will be conveyed to Ostria. There a number of ceremonies will be conducted. He was the Marshal of Ostria and he will be honored as such. I've been told that the Mazetti will publicly mourn their loss for no more than three days after the final rest of the Marshal. After that they are expected to have spent the time between death and interment. As a people I've found these Guardians to be quite industrious and it doesn't surprise me that they've even put into place protocols for the death of one of their own. They even have unofficial rules on hour to "properly mourn, according to our ancestors". They insist that throughout the mourning period at least one evening should be spent indulging in a vice that was held by the deceased as a show of respect to them - purely optional I've been told, but it's an interesting take on how to mourn a death for these people. Even after two years of marriage and living among them, I find their many traditions both old and new (to me) to be very interesting.

Valerio's earned his statue, if I'm to be asked by anyone within the tiers of this House. From common servant up through to the Marquessa, that is my answer. Valerio has earned his rememberance alongside those who have come and gone before him, to be remembered by those who come after him in service to all that he once held dear.

We will see you again soon. Don't get too comfortable.

Relationship Note on Joscelin

Once more she has astonished me with her work and superlative skill. This doesn't surprise me in the slightest. Every time that I've sought her for a work, she has surpassed my expectations. The latest was a piece for the Marquessa of House Mazetti - I can say with certainty that Guildmaster Joscelin is not only a skilled jeweler, but also surprisingly discreet. The surprise gift went off without a hitch.

I presented her with the concept following the completion of our last contract for the torcs of House Mazetti. Within the day I had wrote a letter to her and praised her many fine professional qualities, while following that with a question: Would you like an even greater challenge?

That challenge was accepted and I am thankful for it. The end result of her fine work has resulted in a piece that I foresee being part of our House for many generations to come. A piece of finery that will become nothing short of an heirloom to the Hydra that, one can hope, will someday become synonymous with the torcs worn by them. Or us, as it were.

She has my deepest gratitude for her hard work and what I can imagine is the long-term patronage of not only myself but the urging of House Mazetti to look to her talents for their finery.

A child's First Liar. An important position to hold in the life of a Lycene child. So important that you lie about what it's even called. One must sometimes obfuscate the fact that they are a child's Best Liar, by identifying themselves as the child's First Liar. Really it's the very first step in lying on the behalf of the child.

Relationship Note on Aureth

I distinctly recall your showing up to the duel between Princess Alis Valardin and myself, where our Champions settled our difference of opinion through methods that did not include first blood. I distinctly recall both yourself and the former Archlector of Skald being present and enthusiastically joining with others in cheering on their respective Champions. As I recall it you, along with many others, actively participated by shouting out praise for the duelists.

In fact upon speaking with my ever resourceful assistant, Master Luigi? He recalled the words "Go Luca! You can do it! Get drunk and duel, I believe in you!" being shouted by you.

Was it a duel then? If your word has any value, then it would seem to have been. A duel that you cheerfully and enthusiastically supported through your presence and encouragement of the participants in it. That's not really the behavior of someone who disapproves of something. Rarely does one disapprove of something and then merrily leap with both feet to join in.

It is will great dismay (not really) that I admit my defeat within the duel with Princess Alis Valardin. Her Champion, Prince Luca Grayson, outperformed my own Champion, Bliss Whisper. It was an evening of entertainment, mingled with the urgency of a duel over a particularly ridiculous subject. No matter the severity of the offense the duel was conducted and concluded. Following the unveiling of a new fountain on the Judgment Green and my loss, it is my duty to acknowledge my defeat and my error.

Wine that originates from the Oathlands is not water, which I'm thrilled to discover. I'll be partaking in it more often now that misunderstanding has been cleared up and clarity bestowed upon me.

An important lesson was evident within this duel. I can not speak for Princess Alis of House Valardin, but I do hope she can agree: I appreciate the toll and sacrifice that our Champions, even my opponent's, put on their bodies in order to provide a touch of entertainment and more importantly a (relatively) safe means of conflict (no matter how ridiculous or sincere) resolution. It isn't always bumps, bruises, slashes, and piercings.

Thank you to my Champion, Bliss of the Whisper House.
Thank you my opponent's Champion, Prince Luca Grayson.

Thank you, Princess Alis Valardin. You were an exceptional opponent who kept the mood light and conversations both friendly and productive. I do hope that you and yours will indulge in First Wall - I merely suggest that you take it easy. It's potent.

Relationship Note on Lucita

Baroness Lucita Saik has my humble thanks and appreciation, which I now commit to public record. On account of my time as the Duke of House Malvici and Southport, I became quite close to our vassal, House Saik. Portions of my youth were spent with a number of those who carried the name Saik, despite their being a woefully small family. Sometimes even much to the chagrin of my own mother when she would learn that I'd been hanging around some of those very individuals - much to my delight.

Today, I was granted the immense honor to foster the son of the departed Baron Eos Saik and have him placed under my direct care, supervision, and tutelage. This turn of events has left me with a spring in my step and a grin that I simply can not wipe away. The success of Lord Vomas has ever been one of my priorities and feel that I am now equipped to provide him with the absolute best that I possibly can.

I look forward to working with Baroness Saik in a closer and more profound capacity for the betterment of both Lord Vomas and Saikland Greens in honor of the memory of my friends and others who have passed before me.

Relationship Note on Bliss

Today I received a challenge to a duel. Ultimately, it was my great pleasure to be able to work with one of the finer Champions living: Bliss of the Whisper House. Blisscipline, Blissful, Blisscious, Blissciples(feel free to call yourselves that, fan club).

The agreement made between Champion Bliss and myself, it immediately caused a memory to flood back into my mind. A journal entry that I could only describe as the distant past. It was both a fond and sobering memory, all at once.

Long have I been a fan of the Whisper and Champion known as Bliss. Long have I appreciated her talents and been proud of her ability to work a crowd. She dances so delightfully from deadly to worthy of adoration to so much more with expert precision. For those few reasons and many more, I have always been a fan of the Champion Whisper and will be for a great while longer.

How was this recollection sobering? When I espoused the virtues of Bliss in that journal, I had also mentioned that were it not for my already having a capable defender in the form of then-Lady Kima Saik that I would turn to Bliss Whisper for all my duelist needs. It's a true tragedy that my working with Bliss had to be preempted by the death of a close friend and protector.

Tragedy happens and there is no changing that. The future is ahead of us all and we must embrace the unfortunate events in life, if only to endure them or to improve them. I choose to perceive this as an opportunity to work alongside an equally impressive person as my Sword was and look forward to seeing Bliss defend my honor and the proper identification of alcohol henceforth!

Her victory with be both righteous and swift.

Relationship Note on Joscelin

The Guildmistress spent a considerable amount of time and effort on the recent commission that I'd placed with her, on behalf of the House. Some months back I received a number of journals from Ostria. Older journals. If I'm to understand these people, the Hydra, then I must look first to their past. You can determine a lot about people from where they've been, where they're from, and their experiences. That delivery granted me those things, in my own hands, to review at my own leisure. One should always keep both eyes to the future. One should spare a portion of the mind for acknowledgement of the past. There are many, many valuable lessons to be found there.

I discovered an entry about an old tradition of the House; a bit of symbolism, if nothing else. A quiet means of displaying unification and acceptance. My wife and I felt it was a fantastic idea to renew that tradition. To pay some respect to the past, as we make the necessary plans to ensure a successful future.

That context exhaustively provided: when it came time to find someone to aid us in the renewal of that tradition? There were certainly many options, but I often turn my eyes to the forerunners in any particular field. Often I refer to these people as "the best". Thus I contacted the Guildmistress of the Crafter's Guild. Our rather sizable order was delivered promptly given the size and scope of the endeavor.

The finished product? Exceptional. Exquisite. Superlative. Remarkable. Marvelous. The reason that it has taken me such a great deal to write this journal and provide this publicly visible thanks to Guildmistress Joscelin Arterius? Is simple. It has been truly difficult to gather together the words necessary to fully capture the life-like nature of the scales, the durability that sits light as a feather on the neck and shoulders, or the obvious focus paid to the intense details that can practically make the knees weak with their beauty.

My satisfaction was so great that by nightfall of the very same day, I'd already presented Mistress Joscelin with another great challenge. Which she accepted to my great relief. Now with bated breath I await notification of her eventual completion, because on that day I know that I will bear witness to a beautiful piece of art that will be quite befitting to intended recipient.

Thank you for aiding House Mazetti in breathing new life into an old tradition. Thank you for not shying from a challenge and when presented with another after exceeding expectations on the first? Readily accepting without hesitation! You have our sincere thanks and appreciation.

I dare say that I'm going to enjoy this party. We've decided to welcome any who wish to attend, though any who wish to play the part of troublemakers may very well find themselves escorted out.

I still need to have someone find where my litter made off to. Regardless of that, I plan to have a great deal of fun with this.

Relationship Note on Isabeau

These past two weeks I've had the distinct good fortune of working alongside Princess Isabeau on a number of minor projects. During this time of cooperation toward a shared goal it offered me an opportunity to gain insight into her highness and I've certainly been impressed by her diligence. Often work can be a mind-numbing affair for the vast majority of us, but collaborating aside the princess has provided me a glimpse into the industrious nature of one of the Oathland's finest.

Often quick to provide a smile and quicker still to offer the generosity of a compliment, she has proven to be someone that I will eagerly aid in the future purely based upon her good nature alone. Of course during our work we encountered some obstacles, but she overcame each of them with pluck which is its own form of inspiration.

She has shown an interest in assisting my own House when or however she is capable and I can see no reason that the Hydra would turn away such an amiable friend. Nor do I find a reason that I should deny myself friendship with one such affable person, because friends are great! Not once has she ever revealed an inkling of animosity toward myself regarding the past actions of my cousin, as it should be. For those simple displays of righteousness, she has revealed herself as the child of the Oathlands that she was born to.

Relationship Note on Rohran

The lessons that I seek to impart upon my progeny are beyond counting. Advice, directions, instructions, guidance. All of it meant to permit them successful lives for their House and then themselves. At times those lessons may contradict one another, at times they may infuriate them, but that is what is necessary for them to become what they must be.

Thus it is difficult for me to answer the question with a single shred of advice. Humanity - people - are far too complicated for only a lone piece of advice to guide them through their lives. One piece of advice among them would however be...

Always aspire for greatness. Leave mediocrity to those who can't find it in themselves to aspire for distinction or simply do not have the circumstances align to raise them up. When you've achieved all that you may dream, extend a hand to those who chose mediocrity and seek to uplift them. Inspire those around you to become better. Encourage and influence those who haven't realized their own potential to make the life they've been given account for something, for them. Not for yourself, not for them, but for humanity. Such noble aspirations needn't mean that you must weaken yourself. Seek to become both the lamb and the butcher, putting on the guise that the situation requires. Above all else, always support those who support you.

Prince Taleyno Velenosa
Prince Victus Thrax
Prince Alistair Velenosa
Prince Niccolo Velenosa
Prince Ettore 'Mydas' Velenosa
Prince Luca Grayson
Prince Talen Velenosa

I would like to extend my personal thanks to each of the above named in my white journals, so that when scholars decades from now look back upon those who lived in this time of strife and turmoil, they'll discover that there were many from high to low who sought to give back to the world and humanity.

Over a few hands of cards and a modest amount of silver, I was fortunate enough to humbly accept the silver of my fellow card players. They were practically throwing it at me for a couple hands and I couldn't help but accept their charity. That is precisely what those funds will be put toward: charity. Winnings earned through gambling will be turned on their head and freely given to organizations who make it their sole purpose to aid those in need.

I heartily suggest that anyone welcoming Prince Victus into a hand of cards, confiscates his weaponry prior to beginning. Trust me.

Don't forget my lords and Prince Taleyno, I have dibs on the next excursion. Debauchery in the name of charity seems like the perfected form of debauchery, so we'll do that. Further details will be forthcoming in a few weeks.
