On challenges.
I am a big believer in the Champion's Guild the fill a great service and do so upholding the highest standards of honor. You really should be using them.
That said, Duels have existed long before there was a Champion's Guild. It rose out of filling a need for many that were not fighters themselves to answer to challenges more easily. There may be someone you wish to represent you for a variety of reasons. You may wish to represent yourself. Now you really shouldn't, especially if it is over a relatively trial matter of pride, but if that is what you think your honor demands it is your right.
Basically we all have the inalienable right to make I'll advised decisions.

To those that have suggested they are easily replaceable. You are not. Everyone is a unique creation with no other being quite like you. Ever thing that you partake in, from the life changing, to the painfully banal create the clay from with you craft yourself. It is a project that you never finish, just one that you shape anew.
Now some people are, of course, assholes, but even they are not replaceable. No one can asshole in quite the same way they do.

I mean, I won't deny that a garrote gets the job done, but it is so horribly situational. Your foe has to be unaware and your positioning has to be perfect so they cannot counter attack. There are just so many factors that have to be perfect to employ them effectively. Basically you have to plan an entire fight around the opportunity to employ it when you could just use something else.

Oh I can only imagine how magnificent of a weapon it is. Dame Ida made my spear and she made me something that was amazingly balanced to works from the saddle or boots to ground. That was wickedly sharp and powerful, and atop all of these virtues is also a piece of art. I look forward to seeing you brandish the one she made you!

Relationship Note on Victus
Though this will make Lord Commander Dayne dissapointed in me given his dedication to the sword, but I feel the spear is greatly under appreciated. For me , in battle, it is my spear that is my primary tool, both on horseback and on foot, and my sword is my sidearm for when quarters become to cramped.
I cannot claim it is as flashy or as sexy as either sword or axe, but it has a simple, time tested efficacy that let's you control the flow of battle at your own terms if wielded properly and is excellent as an offensive or defensive weapon.

I am perhaps a bit late responding to this but I consider a man, who is quite literally a living legend, and who is to leadership and tactics what my uncle Lord Commander Dayne was to swordsmanship, asking 50,000 silver for his personal instruction and attention to not be unfair or unwarranted in the least.
Duke Gabriel Bisland has earned a quite retirement to raise and rear his family several times over and has given it up not once, but twice to hold the Compact together and be a leader we can rally behind. His time is limited and so rarely his own and he wished to use what he knows best to help his own Duchy rebuild its forces.
50,000 silver is no small amount of money, but it is a fair price for personal instruction from such an exemplar. If you are someone that Duke Gabriel deems worthy of his instruction but cannot afford it I encourage you to come to me. I cannot promise I will always be in a position to pay such a fee but I would be happy to see what I can do to help.

To dovetail into Legate Orazio's thoughts, I will confess that I have in the past approved matches more than my heart than with my head. Rook and Princess Katarina is a great example of that. They were both round pegs trying to fit into square holes in thier own ways, but I thought, perhaps thier unique situations would be a way they could both find a little happiness and clearly I was wrong.
But my failings asside, I do firmly believe that marrying to do what is best for your family can frequently be rewarded.
Those that know me closely know that I lost the first person I ever truly feel in love with some years ago, just a short time before my sister final threw enough shoes at me until I consented to look for matches. We sat down and established a criteria. We wanted strengthen ties with allies in the western half of Arvum. We wanted an ally that could offer us a greater naval strength. Given that our relationship with Tor are still strong but there were still fences to mend with Southport my sister believed then Lady Admiral Caelis ticked all the boxes and was the best tactical choice. Southport agreed and we moved forward.
We were already friendly. Then Duke Hadrian had asked me to give her riding lessons prior to all of this, which I suspect was him trying to plant the seeds of such match. Through our courtship we became true friends. before our wedding we realized we came to love each other. That our first act as husband and wife was fighting back to back fending off an ambush sealed that. The decision my sister helped me make for the good of the family rewarded me with a true abiding love.
Now I know this cannot be everyone's tale with marriage. And I still love the one that I lost, and I always will, but my love for Caelis will endure. It is different. It is powerful. My first love was like finding a beautiful flower or seeing the sunset for the first time. It struck me instantly and it changed me. My love with Caelis is one that we build together one stone at a time and together created a fortress.
Do not fear marrying for the good of your family nor the love you have to build. That hard work is often rewarded.

Divorce is never an easy topic because marriage is an oath, and Divorce (or annulment which Sir Preston is absolutely correct is a different matter from a divorce) is the dissolving of that oath.
My personal feelings are that divorce are... well quite frankly I don't like it. When now Goodman Rook told me he was going to seek annulment I was not happy about it. I still am not. So I sympathize greatly with Princess Sorrel's feelings.
My discomfort does not change that our world has no simple answers as much as I wish that things could be as straight forward as black or white or as simple as questions that can be answered in terms of right and wrong. Maybe a better way to say it is that there is much involved in defining which is right and which is wrong.
That is why our religion is called the Faith. Just as we have faith in the gods to be there to give us the example to aspire to even though we rarely see thier hands upon us. We must also have faith that those that internet the will of the gods do so with justice and righteousness in mind. I have fallen down at this myself a few times recently, we all do at times. When I remember my faith though it is rewarded and in time I see the right of things that I feared.

Since were are sharing jokes. This is one that Valen used to tell me when I was a boy to make me laugh.
There was a man from Sanctum who wanted to get a new dog for his family, but most of the breeders were way to expensive for him so he started asking around and he was told that someone was selling a talking dog for only 20 silver. Now naturally this man was to smart too know this wasn't a hoax, but he'd had no luck so he figured going to see whatever this con man was trying to peddle would at least be amusing. So he asked around until he got directions to the man's home, a small farm house in a hamlet on the outskirts of Sanctum.
He approached the house where he saw the man sitting upon his porch and said, "Goodman? I understand you are selling a talking dog for 20 silver?" The man looked up and said, "Yup. C'mon in." He showed the man into a common room where there was a shaggy mutt sleeping by the the hearth and then left, leaving the man with the dog.
"Excuse me." the man said smiling to himself, "Are you the talking dog." The dog looked up at him and said, "Hey, how's it going?"
Completely stunned the man sputtered and then finally spit out, "By the gods! You can really talk! That's amazing! What's your story?"
The dog gave a little wurf and then began speaking, "Well, I was originally the dog of Dame Sugan, because I was really good at sniffing out demons. Then I traveled around Arvum for a few years, and then I ended up being the dog of Queen Alarice, where they called me 'elf biter' because I personal drove a bunch of 'em from the Sovereign Bridge in Arx. Then during the great fire, I saved a bunch of books with the best stew recipes ever created. Yup I have lived a pretty amazing life!"
The man was just completely flabbergasted, and walked out of the room and found the dogs owner, "This is amazing! Your dog can actually talk! Why would you sell him for only 20 silver?" The owner just sighed and said:
"Because he's a big LIAR!"

Before everyone gets very upset, I think Princess Saoirse is just having a little fun in good nature. Saying that she encountered a Grayson that is so stodgy and uptight that clearly they must be a Valardin in disguise. I don't think anyone is claiming we have carried out some nefarious infiltration of the Grayson family.

So while catching up on journals today I came across reference to a "pork sword." I commented that this sounded like some form of delicious, savory sausage I had never tried. After much chuckling from nearby scholars Herald Steve explained to me what a "pork sword" is and I will not be trying one anytime soon.
Oh! Not that I think there is anything wrong with enjoying "pork sword" if you do know that I am happy for you and I will continue to do my utmost to defend the Compact so you may enjoy "pork sword", or not, as you choose!

An object lesson Prince Samuel's nannies where very amused for me to learn the hard way when I insisted we try these silk diapers this nice man in the market sold me. They in turn informed me that I had to learn to change him myself.

Relationship Note on Myrinda
It was a little over 5 years ago that I first meet Goodwoman Myrinda. The Assembly of Peers was convening for the first time since the King's Rest. It was going to be the first Assembly I ever attended and as a voting member on top of all of that. Goodwoman Myrinda did not approve of how I dressed.
Quite without preamble clothes arrived with a bill and a strongly worded letter informing me I /would/ be wearing these close to the Assembly of Peers. I remember the white leather coat especially. It had these silver... and I think maybe white gold(?) wings extending from the shoulders that cussed me to get stuck on door jams.
I was afraid to not wear those clothes.
