Note it's a 'hugging' contest and not a 'crushing' contest, Sir Bayweather.
I will not be joining any such contest, no doubt much to the Compact's collective relief. I would, however, like to see the Grandmaster's dancing skills. Perhaps we can arrange a demonstration, Thena? I'll sell tickets.

The city seems to have no shortage of capable knights, many of them seemingly returned fresh to the city after the campaigns in Stormwall and Setarco. One I met, Sir Jeffeth Bayweather, managed to best Princess Reese Grayson in a match, and rumors of her skills have reached even the Oathlands.
Is that my hand I feel, itching to have a blade in it?
Truth be told, I chafed when I was directed to remain within Blancbier instead of heading with the levies.

Relationship Note on Jeffeth
I too was struck still at the sight of that creature, Sir Jeffeth. All thought fled from me when I saw it, tall and winged and horrifying, holding the leashes of those... things. Hunger made flesh. I stopped and I screamed. I could not do anything else. And for that, I am ashamed. I stood there like a child faced with a nightmare army and like I child I cried out in terror.
But you fought, Sir Jeffeth. You gathered yourself and you fought. As I did. When I found a previous patient disoriented and crawling towards the enemy, I pulled him away from the fight. When he was too heavy, I called for help and together we dragged Marquis Stonewood back to the other patients.
I failed again when I tried to help Countess Mia Riven get free of the creatures that were trying to pull her into the nest of them. Her guards were hacking away and I reached in and tried to grasp her hand, but the creatures snapped at my arms. And in the most horrifying way I failed her. When I felt the teeth scraping my armor I screamed for help and I ran. I was a coward and it haunts me. I know she made it out. I sent her a letter in apology... but I failed. And that haunts me.
We all make mistakes. We all falter. I pray my thanks for those of us that are braver and more capable than I. I have thought and thought and thought about my failures. What I did wrong. The courage that I lack. How to change. How to be better.
That's all any of us can do. Try to be better.

I had the honor and opportunity to do a little bit of training today with sir Jeffeth, the Solace knight. You might have seen him? The one that makes the rest of us look short?
He hits hard, his skills with the sword are delightful to watch even if they leave huge bruises afterwards. Bruises are just the body's way of telling you to pay attention to training, right?

I still remember when we were children, how sad I was to see you go. Every passing Knight of Solace was given a death glare! Not that I was ever very intimidating, 'specially not at that age.
To see you again was a delight. It was as if nothing had changed even after all of those years past, as if you'd left a day ago and just returned home early. You're still my cheerful, bellowing friend.
And you give the best hugs! Really makes a girl feel appreciated to get picked up and spun around.

Sir Jeffeth puts it well. What the orphans need is opportunity for a life beyond their childhood years. The Faith can, will and does provide for their needs, but what the Faith cannot do is provide options /beyond/ the Faith. We cannot tell you to open your homes, we cannot tell you to take them on, so I am glad Jeffeth highlights there are - beyond the bickering - real orphans in need. I was lucky, I was raised in the Rectory - the archlectors, the legates, they were all parents to me in some way, even if they didn't know. My path was marked out for me before I could walk and talk, a purpose divined for me by one of the then legates. I cannot think of the difficulty of being without that, and if others can provide that for the children, provide certainty and opportunity, then I would urge people to listen to Sir Jeffeth. But. Do not think of what the orphans might do for you. Think of what it might do for the orphan. And in turn know that your soul will be lifted by that act.

Sir Jeffeth, House Blackshore has many opportunities for orphans who are willing to roll up their sleeves and help rebuild Blackshore Isle. We have need of skilled tradesmen, sailors, fishermen, and farmers to work the land. Any orphans that are coming to age and wish to learn a trade, my house would be more than happy to sponsor their apprenticeship for their service in return. I understand the Knights of Solace may have first call to those that are coming of age that might have some martial prowess. But if you can think of any that would like to serve in the Iron Guard, I would be happy to bring them in early to help with their training before they officially sign on the line. Sometimes it's nice knowing you'll have steady work on a place to sleep.

Sir Jeffeth, if any of those good kids with good hearts in the orphanages are old enough and want to learn smithing, you send them to me at Ferron Arms & Armor. It would not be the first time I've taken apprentices from the Lowers - Mistress Lola Tragedy to name but one - and I hope it will not be the last. Lessons are free, of course, as are two meals a day. Bit of sweat instead of silk, but I'd be honored to teach them.

Likewise, if any of those children would like some tutoring in the finer points of manual labor, I would be happy to assist! While all deserve their good homes and loving parents, but some good life lessons come in all sizes. I have extra sweeps without occupants and I've even written a few showtunes to go along with sweeping the floors!

Sir Jeffeth Bayweather is a far better representative of the Knights of Solace and of Gild than I am. We came up in the same place (the Lowers, I was not an orphan) but he has gained a wisdom I have not. His advice is worth taking.

Today was quite a rough day. It is no secret now about what happened. Sir Jeffeth was kind enough to offer let me blow off some steam in a spar. But I fear I overtaxed myself. No fault of the good knight he knocked me silly. But he did me a kindness and brought me to the Mercies at the House of Solace. And though I've a mighty bruise on my noggin, I am grateful to him. I hope to be better prepared in a few days to spar again. Yes, I am a glutton for punishment.
