Relationship Note on Cristoph

You know, it's a damn shame, I think I've forgotten the exact taste of Laurent mead. I guess I can't write about how great it is until I try it again.

I do not find it odd that you read my journals. I read yours, as well! I admit that I do find it incredibly flattering, though. I can't imagine that you'd find it to be anything but nonsense. We have many people in common, though, and so I wouldn't say it is strange or odd.

It has been a delight to have the opportunity to work with you. Thank you for the compliments; I appreciate them deeply. I am proud of my work there, both in what has been accomplished and in what is to come.

Podraig assures me that you are a word that I cannot spell because it is in his language and the letters don't match up. I am pretty sure we'd spell it starting with a B or P. It seems to be a positive trait though, and roughly means someone that leads from the front.

Relationship Note on Cristoph

I had a chance to fight, and talk, to Duke Cristoph Laurent last evening. I try to imagine what it might be like to be a steadfast, honorable Valardin day in an day out, and it makes me wince, but he seems to enjoy it.

Good luck on your endeavor.

Thank you.

It is not an easy thing to give a genuine apology.

They are worth a great deal for that very reason.

I am both moved and appreciative.

It warms me to hear how well you led the Greenmarch cavalry under your banner, Duke Laurent. I have no doubt your bravery inspired their action and I am grateful for it.

Relationship Note on Cristoph

Duke Cristoph has suggested that we tell stories of the heroes of Setarco. I think that is a fine idea. So let me tell the story of Duke Cristoph Laurent and the cavalry of the Oathlands.

It is hard to overstate the danger of the rabid dogs that the Pirate King's minions unleashed on the lines in Setarco. They are the creatures that murdered both Dame Zhayla, the Sword of Old Oak, and Lord Killian Ashford, the Paladin of Ideals. They, in other words, defeated some of our finest warriors. Any rational soldier would cower and refuse to face them.

But not Duke Cristoph and his brave men and women. They steeled themselves, they charged. Their losses were unspeakable. But they were victorious. I commanded men on that line. We owe our lives to them.

It is said that the purest form of Gloria's worship is to pray not for victory, but for the courage to do one's duty. The Duke Cristoph's cavalry venerated Gloria in their deeds at Setarco.

Relationship Note on Cristoph

As we prepare for war, the Telmarch has been buoyed by the friendship and support of its sister duchies. A month ago, the Telmarines drilled with the brave soldiers of Westrock Reach under the direction of Sir Thorley. This last fortnight, they worked with the efficient men and women of Artshall under the direction of Duke Cristoph. We have learned from each other and have built both martial strength and lasting ties. I am proud to train and to fight alongside them.

I can not wait to hear the sound of rolling thunder over the hill that leads in to Southport and know that it is our friends and allies of Valardin and Laurent on the ride to come to our aid. So much has changed in the last twenty years. I am glad to embrace those changes and welcome you as a brother at arms.

Perhaps Duke Laurent we all must apologise to one another constantly for not considering one another often enough. I am sure I am dismissive many a time of the needs and burdens of nobles great office, because it is a strangeness to me. I lack the understanding of many of the noble Blessed Archlectors and others, for I have never lived a life outside of the Faith, and perhaps that makes me see the Faith as others see their mother and father, and I am too quick to take offense on its part. I will think on Father Orazio's words, as I often do even when I disagree with him, and perhaps there are better approaches, perhaps it would have been better to be specific. For in attempting to avoid a small dispute, I caused a larger one. I hope all reading know that Laurent is amongst the most pious of houses for all they have sacrificed to the Faith, including their future Duchess in recent years who now leads the Temple of Gloria with the honour, determination and faith equal to any.

And I regret that - but I make my choice all the same, Duke Laurent. If you feel strongly, it is easy to protest - I answer only to four. My grandmaster, the Blessed Cassandra, His Most Holy and his voices, and to the Gods.

Relationship Note on Cristoph

If people think that an observation that some have lost their Faith could apply to them, I would suggest that if it causes them to seek discussion and affirmation of their faith with their holding's Seraph, with the Godsworn, and perhaps in your case with your former sister, then that is for the good - though I cannot say I have ever seen any member of House Laurent ever doubt the deep affection I hold for their lost Duchess for the choice she made to join the Faith. While teasing me to get the info works I am sure with many others, I fear I must disappoint. I chose not to name the individuals, because even if I disagree with their choice as to their attitude to the Faith, I can at the same time still respect them for other parts of their life. You can believe or not whether I have affinity for the Oathlands or surprise at such a reaction - but I have never hid my Orthodoxy, nor my attention and appreciation to the words of the Seraph of Sanctum.

As I say, if nobles dislike me for it - then I do regret that, but I love them still. But if a single noble asks a question of their Seraph from this, and through it dialogue? I see my discomfort and regret as happy payment.

Relationship Note on Cristoph

I would suggest you inquire with your fellow nobles and royals as to their faith in, well, the Faith and her armies, Duke Laurent. I mention Valardin only because that any there should feel this way surprises me because of the known piety, and my own personal affections for the lands. But it is not Valardin alone that faces this, so naming individuals will do little but occupy all of us in duels until Gloria herself grows weary of us. Especially as I do not know if it is their fault or some fashion - or indeed perhaps some fault of our own that may have caused them to drift and doubt. I will say though that Prince Victus is a paragon of sorts for how to combat this attitude, and has by deed shown others a way to dialogue with the Faith and how to construct a relationship, and his work with the Seraph Ailith made me question many of my own pre-judgements on what I should expect of others.

It was a wonderful Tournament to Gloria today, and it was run with exceptional skill. Duke Cristoph's event was a wonderful demonstration of skill to inspire and pay homage to Gloria. I brought all of my medical kits, remembering the bloodbath that was the last grand melee, and I for one was very glad not to be wrist deep in blood and viscera this time around. All the credit goes to the host, my liege, Duke Cristoph. To those who fought, well shown. I was proud of all of you and hope was renewed in the face of the challenges to come.

Well, the frogs are a probability, but really you should see how he reacts to ducks. He can't be trusted near them! One moment it's fine, the next he's up to his ears in mud, tracking it everywhere. I've caught him a time or two at the window staring out at them, and the look in his eyes. He's quite nearly mastered the art of getting whatever he wants from people with just a glance from those big dark eyes.
