I absolutely adore the first snow of the year! It's so pristine and glorious and wonderful until it seeps into your slippers, but then it is the perfect excuse to go inside and snuggle up with loved ones and hot chocolate and listen to Nik tell stories around the fireside!

I find myself very much pondering what my answers to the questions Princess Gabriella posed in her whites. I've gone back and forth on my answers quiet a few times but I believe I've finally settled on the ones that seem right to me:

What is the single most important quality of the best of rulers?

The ability to listen. To the things that are said and the things that are unsaid.

And what, then, is the single most damning quality of the worst of tyrants?

Originally I was going to say that being a tyrant is rather the most damning quality, but that seems too simple. SoI think the true answer is: a lack of imagination.

Lord Jyri has asked me to help him with his fundraiser auction and I could not be more pleased to do so! If you are an artist that would like to donate a piece--well, details will be forthcoming, but do write and let me know!

I truly wish I had the kind of mind that it takes to write beautiful poetry but alas, while Jayus has given me many gifts, that is not one of them!

I am so thrilled that there has been so much interest in the Shrine of Jayus of late! It's just been a bustling place of activity and inspiration and it's just been so fulfilling being a disciple there that I do think it's one of the best decisions I've made of late! Archlector Wylla is just so amazing and, I don't know, it just feels like home to wander around looking at everyone's creations!

And if you haven't stopped by yet to put a stone into the wall please do so before we tear it down to make way for next year!

I am just so amazed with the creativity involved in the creation of all of these new fabrics! I don't even know where to start! Well, I started with duskweave because it is absolutely perfect for a dress I had created in seasilk that, while lovely, was never quite colored right and this fabric won't need tinkering at all to be absolutely gorgeous! And honeysilk! I admit I have never quite been a fan of bees--although I adore Duke Cristoph and Lady Mabelle don't get me wrong--but I now wonder if jewelers across the city won't be making some honeycombed theme jewelry to go with this glorious fabric! I can just see a sunny dress is in my future! And the damask!

It looks like a new winter wardrobe will not be difficult to come by this fall!

The King seems to think that wearing tiaras at a jaunty angle is a thing.

I suppose if anyone is going to start a trend it may as well be him, though!

Lady Emily's First Frost Festival at the Deepwood Grounds was quite lovely! I was able to make it for the archery contest, which Prince Kenjay did a fantastic job calling, and was very impressed with the skill shown by all the competitors!

All in all it was a wonderful time and now I am here, writing this journal and partaking of this delightful cider I got as a gift for attending!

Mistress Talia has truly outdone herself and I would encourage everyone in the Crownlands to ensure that their house gets one of the coveted spots in her next show! She truly is one of the most gifted tailors I have ever met! I simply cannot wait to see what she does with a Faith collection and I'll have to speak with Archlector Wylla to ensure Jayus is well represented!

Princess Liara's party at Grayson Mansion was absolutely delightful! Dancing was had and there were so many friends old and new in attendance! It was such a festive and fun time I do hope that it's not the last of the Grayson parties for the season.

I am so thrilled that Archlector Wylla has been around more! She is such a calming presence and so wise! I feel inspired just being around her! Perhaps I ought to up my hours each week at the Shrine of Jayus so that I'm more able to chat with her! She's just absolutely wonderful in all ways!

While the tour through the Mourning Isles was amazing for the debut of The Song of Tala Everfree, there was something magical about being able to perform it on stage at the Black Rose Theater! A place where I once dreamed of treading the boards in just such a role--something a bit outside of my comfort zone, but something I was still able to excel in and make my own!

I do wish Master Bastien was able to see it! I'm sure I easily exceeded his every expectation.

Pain, I think. And understanding that or not. I have thought about this a great deal lately and while of course it does not excuse why people might turn to evil actions, it can explain them. And I believe one must try to understand such things in order to help change them. I'd like to believe that a little empathy in such matters could turn the tide and perhaps in some instances prevent tragedy.

I did attend that opening of the Stormbird's Roost along with most of Arx it seemed! The place was quite lovely and had that exotic sort of scent to it that nonetheless made my mouth water. While I declined some of the more...adventurous aspects of the menu, I did quite enjoy the humus and flat bread selection! And the wines were quite lovely! I would recommend it to anyone that wanted to learn a little more about Eurusi cuisine in a lovely setting!

The children are growing so much I feel like I need to add a whole new list of painters to the one we already have for I've commissioned so many portraits lately that surely I am tiring them out! But I don't want to miss capturing a moment of how charming Relara is or how contemplative Gareth is or how cute Lulu is or how mischievous Clara is! They're growing so fast I simply cannot believe it! And of course my mother and father and Prince Tyrval all need to have updated portraits so people will comment upon them and they can gush about how adorable and wonderful they are!

I do hope there's not a paint shortage next.

It has been an incredibly busy week! Lord Porter and Dame Bree's fundraiser at the Tragedy was hilarious and a wonderful way to spend an evening and a very worthwhile endeavor to donate to so if you missed it do seek them out and offer some help! Then the rock painting event at the Shrine of Jayus was just fantastic and I am amazed at the creativity of everyone that participated and delight in seeing new rocks added to the wall daily! So if you did not have a chance to stop by while the event was happening you can do so at your leisure, all the supplies are still there!

And to top it all off I received the most amazing belated birthday present from the King! A gorgeous tiara that I will most certainly be wearing all fall! Prince Niklas is already making plans to model our entire wardrobe around it, so I am very grateful and appreciative the King has such fantastic taste!

I have thought very hard about what to include in this journal about my trip to Sungreet with the Crusade. There are so many details I can record, some of them horrific, many of them brave, all of them most definitely seared into my memory. But what I shall recount is this:

The Carnifex allowed me to meet with House Helianthus and their representatives first and while I made many arguments and pleas for a peaceful resolution, it became very clear that they were not treating with us in good faith and the talks were being used as a stalling tactic while they awaited the Eurusi fleet. Any hope of a peaceful resolution then fell apart very quickly and it felt like war was everywhere for a time. Now I am no fighter and I think that historically this will be recorded somewhere as I can barely lift a sword and could not hope to swing one, but I was able to convince some of those fighting to lay down their arms and I remained unharmed for the entirety of the event. I will not say that I rushed out to the battlefield to avail myself of the good nature of those we were fighting against, but I tried to do what I could in the places where I thought I might be heard.

And I suppose that's the part that I want to be recorded. That there were certainly heroes that lost their lives fighting and some that turned the tide with their strength and skill with their weapons, but that even in the most intense battles, voices of reason can still be powerful. Lives can still be saved even if you cannot lift anything heavier than a quill or simply your own voice. All one needs to do is to try.
