Heroes are the sword that's held on display in a case.
You can take the sword out and use it as a sword should be used, but doing so causes it to acquire the nicks and scratches a blade suffers under regular use. If you desire, you can spend time and manpower to whet back its edge, clean the tarnish, and make the sword look presentable again, but it will never be the same sword that it would be had it remained in its case, untouched except to be cleaned.
However, in order to be so valued that it was put on display, a sword would have already seen some use beforehand. It was already flawed before being placed upon its case of honour.

I've never had anyone killed for punching me because I said foolish things. However, I would prefer being told of my folly over being punched, since a punch can be interpreted in many ways and accidents can happen despite the best intentions.
Misinterpretations aside, I will concede that there are few forms of communication as effective as a well-placed punch.

Skald has a priest or soon will. If you're the only one, does that make you Archlector by default? From what I hear, Skald would just buy an ale and watch them fight about it.
The Queen of Endings has a priest or one as close as makes no different. A prophet? Having her drop a book on your head seems to be pretty clear.
Question: how do you appoint an Archlector of the Dreamer? Answer: No idea but I'll sleep on it.

Plans have been made. My ships will be sailing alongside those of Costas Voducce. Our part of the task force is going to be harrying the Betrayer's shipping. Hopefully, there'll be some good loot to be had as none of this comes cheaply. I've yet to meet him but heard some good things for a mainlander.

On the one hand, having a waking vision about the total and utter destruction of everything while I was in the middle of, or perhaps I should say on top of, a rather pleasant fellow to be both disconcerting and frustrating.
On the other hand, having all the discussion and research being proven correct is satisfying. 10 minutes later though would have been more convenient.

I've instructed my crew to make sure the ships are ready to sail. A formality. My ships are always ready to sail and if I ever find out they're not, at least one person is going overboard. First we'll be supporting the High Lord in the battle against a column of the Bringers. Not long after that, we'll be joining the fleet to fight the Gyre. The ocean, sea air, firing a ships sails before ramming and boarding. Good times.

Tonight was my first meeting with the Scholars. It was a very intellectually stimulating experience. In fact, it was so intellectually stimulating that it almost came to blows. I blame the complete lack of rum being served in the lead up to the meeting. Give me a drunken brawl any day.
