The journey ahead a long one for myself and the three rangers accompanying me. A group if hunters we are passing ourselves off as so as to not draw a second look all the way back to Ashford Hall. A longer journey than back to Arx, and two days lost disguising our trails as such. It could not be helped and it was asked of me to do by one who has my implicit trust back at House Ashford. My presences was needed and the reason being the financial ruin of the house. It was something I could not ignore. Oh it hurt leaving Aislin and Killian, but I did my best to see them tended too. Also it was not as if the bow of more noble man was going to be much a different. Hardly any praise at all for my effort which on the surface a good thing, but there will always be the questions "but what if..."

All I can do is move forward in a way which I believe best use of the skills I offer. Ashford Hall as need of them and the sooner we get there the clearer picture of the situation will be at hand. Till then were hunters traveling where we may, near freezing ourselves at night. Gods I miss my battle leathers....

Duty is heavier than a mountain, and bloody inconvenient as one. I left Aislin in charge of the men. To my men I told them to protect Ashland at all costs. It is all I can do, other than freeze on the trip back to the city.

Can one train a mountain lion? If so I want one. If not then perhaps a huge moor or wolf hound. Something needs to protect me if the enemy gets in close as I am likely to do their task for them. Expert with a bow yes, a long sword in my hand is more a danger to me then them. I must correct this. Damn, how Lillian will crow over this...

Relationship Note on Shard

You had best keep your bow under lock and key Captain or I may steal it. Damon it is a fine bow. Look at her strength, the way the recurve add to its power. You can put an arrow through a tree trunk with it. I must get one.

Relationship Note on Killian

I am glad you like armor so much cousin mine for you are going to be surrounded by it and men so you can never charge head first without some restraint. You blood is too precious to me, and I need your body whole so someone might marry you. God's above I do not wish too. You will thank me later I think. I am told the old saying women admiring and desiring men with scars is simply not true.

Relationship Note on Aislin

I will not coddle her or treat her like glass. She is a hunter and one whose skills have surpassed my own, which is good for we need those as well as her knowledge. Yet she is still family, still my blood and I will not see her without aid and protection. I thank her for seeing my view. It helps ease the burden.

Relationship Note on Arianna

Her passion and compassion are among her strengths and as one who has lived and knows the Abandoned and what we are up against, she will be key in the future. My admiration of her is strong as is my respect. We are not all alike, but we are together and share a purpose and more importantly, the desire to see it through. We are better for it, and for her.

It is with relief when away from battle with hot food and wine, and cooler tempers from battle lust reason and friendship come forward. I am proud of all parties and glad to be serving along side of them.

Challenges have no place when out on the field and campaign. We are allies. Act like it and swallow pride. My view as I write here at night. I worry for Killian. I will talk to the man. If I am not allowed to be the reckless fool, neither is he. Do not think I missed you sister, I will get to you next.

I will admit things were far from ideal. It was a hard decision as things in any field are fluid. I stand by the Prince's decision, and accept the consequences since it was my arrow. After such event I regret nothing, and I will always defend my blood.

Relationship Note on Shard

There has been a saying among the hunters and rangers who taught and trained me. A single arrow can be snapped in two as if it were a stick. A bundle of arrows, cannot be broken. Let the wolves circle as you aptly and eloquently state, they will find united resolve, and more bundles of arrows than to their liking, especially with one skilled at our side.

I know the expedition to the Gray Forest tis a serious thing, the mission perhaps of dire importance. As evidence by recent events, the Compact has enemies, and they are plotting and acting against us. We need allies, not more enemies, not wolves who would strike from the flanks as we turn to face the enemy head on. It is my feeling there is a pack against us. They have us circled and are herding us ever closer to something of their design. If we do not break free of this gyre about is, it will spill even greater loss and conflict.

I am here, trained men of the forest about me as well as a guard to remind me I am no hunter in the woods stalking down prey. I am the Duke of Ashford and while the men are here to act as my arm, my arrow, they also are here to keep me in check. I wish I had time to get a hunting hound and have he trained to my side. I must see to it in the future if nothing more than to make my sisters happy I have someone by my side to defend me always. Till then my own bow and steady aim will need to do the Pantehon forbid something does get though. If they do, they will find I am no doe to be hunted and driven. I am the Hunter, and my aim is always true, always deadly.

We ride with peace as out intent, let's prey deadly resolve need not be tested.

An interesting young woman. Though I find myself wondering how she's survived for this long.

How long has it been since I've been away from away from one home and the other? Entirely too long, by my estimation. Fortunately I've gained a spot in an expedition with the Explorers alongside my dear cousin, Killian. Hopefully it goes well enough that I can join others in the future without causing anyone too much distress.

It is good to have another Ashford man back from the wilds. Time will tell whether or not he shares his brother's shortcomings, but I don't believe that to be the case. He seems to have a decent head on his shoulders. Let's try to keep it there.

I am in desperate need of a long, quiet hunt away from the city. I would usually want it to be solitary as well, but not this time. Perhaps that is a change in the right direction, or perhaps I am letting myself get too carried away. I don't know how one can trust themselves in these matters.

I received the most amazing gift from a new acquaintance. I'm not sure I'll ever be able to give something quite so thoughtful to them in return.

Like many others, I have learned so very much in recent weeks. This knowledge makes me at once wish I could forbid my kin from following their inborn nature in order to assure their safety, and to follow my own despite the inevitable danger of where it would lead me. How weary being this sort of hypocrite must have made my father.
