Relationship Note on Samantha
Marquesa Samantha was of great help to me as my agent in negotiating my marriage alliance with House Grayson, a woman of poise and good sense, who knows when to let her hair down. I'm so glad she was willing to help me out, because it would have been so odd to negotiate on my own behalf as a Voice of my House.
Thank you so much, my lady, for all your help. I consider you a true friend of my heart and always shall.

Her views on the abandoned as they call them here in the compact are very much true. Those fears and concerns were part of what kept me secluded on the mountain for so many years. I came down because the spirits guided me to. The path has not been an easy one but it has been mine.
Her words speak volumes as to how much she strives to understand those outside of the compact and those who recently or may soon desire to join with it and give their knee much like I did. And much like so many others have done before me.
Her words alone would earn my respect not that it holds much weight in this world I find myself now living in. But just the same they would.. and they have.

The Marquessa of House Deepwood has given me a great honor in providing me with the means to wage war on behalf of the Compact. So before I march off to aid in the defense of the Seawatch Gate, it should be noted that I thank her for her generosity and aid in providing me the means to ensure that I can perform to the best of my ability on the field of battle. She has my thanks and I will make sure that her property is returned to her House promptly upon it no longer being a necessity that I possess it.

The Marquessa has been a boon to the people under her fledgling watch, from those who have been part of the Compact for generations, all the way to those who have just bent the knee. While part of my heart feels for those tribes who made that choice-- as it is never easy-- I know that every single one of them will find themselves under the wings of a fair and just phoenix.

In bloodshed and chaos, Marquessa Samantha Deepwood finds strength through unity and respect. It is no wonder 30,000 Abandoned turned to follow her. I often feel odd among Compact nobility, but I'm proud to be sworn to House Riven, and prouder that we follow this lady of the Deepwood in whatever she shall make of the world.

Relationship Note on Samantha
I've often thought it was luck that landed me at Deepwood where I knelt and entered the Marquessa's service, but sometimes I wonder if it might not have been some other hand.
I'm so grateful, either way, and I don't give thanks as often as I should. I'm just glad. I'm glad and I'm grateful and I'm happy that it _was_ Deepwood where I landed. From the first moment I took on the mantle of Prodigal, she has been nothing but kind to me, giving me opportunity -- giving me a home -- when she didn't need to give me anything. She trusted me when she didn't have to, when wiser people might've said 'let's not let the strange Prodigal with the giant sword wander around through our house and also give her a ROOM of her OWN'. But she did. She trusted me. And every day I try to live up to that trust.
I wasn't surprised when I heard of the huge numbers of other Abandoned that looked to her and saw someone worth following. I've never been more proud to serve Deepwood. I've never been more grateful to serve Deepwood.

So far, I've managed to avoid accidentally killing Dumpling.
The Marquessa and Sir -- wait, no, LORD COMMANDER -- Rymarr made a gift of a horse to me, and while they promise me that she's a sweet-tempered, good-natured mare (she's actually really pretty, too; she's called Dumpling, and she's the color of a dumpling in chicken soup, all gold and white), she's still about 10000 feet tall and 20000 pounds heavy. Samantha said it was a gift in recognition of well I did in the melee, and Rymarr thinks I should learn to ride, so that I can keep guarding the Marquessa even when she leaves the city. So I will -- eventually.
Right now, I'm still getting used to her. She hasn't stepped on me yet, and I'm doing what Rymarr said and staying in front, where Dumpling can see me. Now that Samantha told me the trick to getting the animals to listen to you -- it's bribing, by the way, she had me introduce myself with sugar -- I'm cautiously hopeful that I won't get trampled.
She also said that I could go with the Deepwood troops to fight the Bringers, and if learning to ride a horse will let me ride that much faster to the front lines, I think it's worth putting up with something that big.

Relationship Note on Samantha
The Marquessa. Samantha. Sam. She goes by a lot of names, but she extended a hand when she didn't have to: to protect, and to help me get to my feet. I don't know what to make of Arx yet, except that it's weird, and there are a lot of people who are willing to run around and hit each other fun, and some people will pay money for that, but I know what I think of her. I'm glad to be part of her household. Even if some of it's a little weird.

Ah; she's my employer, and my patron. I can say kind words beyond...but they might ring hollow--after all, she employs me. Suffice to say that I am a young man of few means but my skills, given connections, contacts, silver, and a chance to better myself. She gives me these chances.

Had I a single doubt as to considering the addition of the Marquessa’s aid in my new appointment, it has been alleviated. Having only known her by reputation before, I am most impressed. She displays exactly the virtues I find endearing in an individual -- those of which I know myself to possess in abundance and those I am often found in wanting of.
I have every indication that this is the beginning of something very promising.
