Interesting arrangement of priorities there, Marquis, especially considering the further absence of "Stormwall" or "the Compact" as priorities in the phrase. I trust that was an oversight.
From what I've heard, Prince Ainsley's headlong rush into battle was something /other than/ protecting the Mercies, to say nothing of others' attempt to do the same. If that is untrue, then pains should be taken to correct this impression before it spreads to less circumspect souls than myself. Lady Khanne Halfshav has spoken on the matter and, while I have no reason to doubt her perspective, I also trust the perspective of the person who told me otherwise.
Let's get a factual recounting of what happened and when it happened, so that we might look upon the matter with clarity and not fall into the trap of endless back-and-forth in the Whites. Was there a war chronicler there?

I believe I was eight when I first met cousin Mydas. If memory serves me right, I took one look at him, squeaked and hid behind a tapestry for the remainder of his visit. Naturally, he has not done the polite thing and forgotten that oh so composed response. Nor will he allow me too. Still, I cannot help but be fond of him. Perhaps his love of books serves to redeem him, if only a little. His incessant need to tease, surprisingly, worked wonders to set me at ease. I at least managed to remain visible this time. For me, that is a feat worth a banquet.

Lord Mydas Nightgold is not one I've encountered, likely for various reasons, but perhaps, it is only in the shadow of tragedy that meaningful discourse could be had. He joined in a lively discussion on the nature of the Thirteenth with Lord Percephon and me, and brought unique and utterly impressive perspectives that forced me to think outside my comfort zone. He's not someone to be discounted easily, I think, and his conversation and debate was respectful, powerful, and a delight to engage in. It is my hope that we will have many more in the future. A refreshing day, overall, to find my mind enraptured by thought exercises and the reexamining of my beliefs. I feel all the stronger for it.

I must take a few moments to speak praise for my cousin.
Perhaps it was a fluke that Nadia promoted him to voice hours before her death, but I think of it as a blessing instead.
I feel so amazingly utterly lost, for all that I have been called "voice" for months now. Yet, for all the areas where I struggle, there Mydas shines. He's been a tremendous help in narrowing down volumes of knowledge into what I should know and what I need to know, he's taken hold of trading concerns that I know nothing about, and has been willing to advise me discretely when my ignorance about my sister's affairs begins to show.
He even made sure there was wrestling at the bonfire!
