After many months away at sea, I have finally returned to Arx. Where was I, you may ask, dear Scholar? After the Civil War, I took the fleet of the Isles Canines, and some time to reflect. We roved our way through numerous slaver fleets in the name of House Thrax. Never let it be said that I am not devoted to the safety of the Isles. While my family and I may not be on the best of terms these days, we do agree on one thing - slavery has no place in Arvum.
From what I understand, I just missed a rather brazen attack on Arx. Well, I am glad to see that the city still stands. I doubt anyone will be welcoming me back with open arms, but I am at least going to try to repair what damage has been done to my reputation due to past errors in judgment. Perhaps I may even put my Sea Dogs to use for the good of the Compact. I suppose we shall see what unfolds in the coming days.

It's been a very long time since someone has properly tried to kill me. I think I must have forgotten how much a blade actually hurts, or I think I would have made more of a point to dodge it. Not only do I have a nasty cut on my side, I have a number of broken ribs.
I am accepting visitors at the House of Solace, as well as gifts - but maybe not hugs for a while.
Anything deep fried or sweet will earn my affection. Food that doesn't require chewing (such as soup) will earn my eventual wrath.

Relationship Note on Tatienne
I think that there are people in the Compact who share your sentiments Tatienne. That they believe that what I've done was something that shouldn't be forgiven but Gloria teaches mercy against those who have fought with honor and laid down their arms when they've lost. We don't need to re-visit the details to understand what I did. I know. I'm fully aware and as the Legate says I will carry that with me for the rest of my life.
I still don't believe that I've done enough and I won't feel fulfilled until slavery is a practice that has long since been abolished. My promise to the people and to the Gods alike were straightforward and sincere. There can be no more slaves. While it's madness to think that one of us has the power to make change in foreign lands without the aid of many, because I am just one princess, we can begin closer to home. I have faith that Victus and the rest of Thrax's leadership will continue to make policy decisions that lead us towards a Mourning Isles without Thralldom.
What we cannot do is let our anger, sadness, disappointment, or shame cloud our judgement. We cannot make foolhardy decisions, such as waving our hand and freeing all thralls, without suffering the consequences. The world is already suffering enough without us adding to it. Even if such a thing were to help us all sleep better at night, we are obligated to be better by noble obligesse. To carry our burdens and all that comes with it even through the most difficult of transitory periods, even if it means people will despise us for it in the moment.

All the warmest congratulations for the completion of your great wonder the titaness. I felt blessed to see her, towering above us, the last of the scaffolds being disassembled, as we prepared to sail our fleet back from your waters, and I imagine generations onward will feel her presence as they approach Setarco.

Another promising sea captain from the south, we've found some suitable common ground to work from regarding future maritime enterprise. Duchess Pravus has become an ongoing benefactor to the Isles Canines, marking the beginning of what I believe will be a formidable alliance. Naturally, the Pravus have many concerns with pirates, and though their fleets are also substansial, we shall collectively make the waters surrounding Setarco a quite inhospitable place for the enemies of the Compact.

Attended a dinner at the Pravus estate, which turned out to be lovely. Apart from the Duchess, Sebastian was there, and there was a bit of a lively discussion of Eurusi culture (as always seems to spring up around me!) as well as illegal Nox wine. Not that I'd know anything about the latter.

The Seraceni Sword and a corsair. We struck up a conversation because I thought his name sounded Eurusi, and it seems his family may have some heritage of that sort. So Denica and I may be tutoring him, and I may be encouraging him to sail with the Canines. I do... very much hope it goes well.

Ah, it's so good to be back in the city. Having caught up with my cousins and siblings, I look forward to getting back to more serious things... and less serious things, for that matter. Hopefully I'll not besmirch the dignity any more resurrected historical figures in the near future, either.

To honor the request of good memories to be recorded:
Donrai Thrax, Prince of Maelstrom and Highlord of the Isles, once said to me, "You are the least disappointing of my grandchildren."
I'm quite certain he meant only in that particular moment, and I cannot even remember what it was for, but his praise was so sparing that those words have stuck with me. As I got older I realized he said LEAST disappointing, which still isn't saying I wasn't disappointing.
In this, though, I shall be a spoiled princess and choose to claim the memory with my own recollection and assume he meant something nicer.

It was late, and I was trying in vain to learn to use a dagger at the training center. Fergus arrived with his baby, Nia, saying she was fussy and he takes her for walks so Marian can sleep. I didn't know him well, but it seems proper to share a memory of the man, and this will stick with me as part of his character.

I went to visit my sister today at Pravus Manor, only to find out she was not available. I should have sent a message first, to be sure, but sometimes a surprise is just delightful. I won't call it a wasted trip, however. While there, I met the Sword of Setarco.
It's always a pleasure to meet a kindred spirit. She is sure to overwhelm me when we spar next, but I still look forward to it.

This morning, at dawn, I walked to the Confessional of the Waves and followed its path. I have to say that this may be one of the most beautifully designed structures in the Thrax Ward. Where so much of our architecture has focused on grim determination and the conquering spirit of our people, the Confessional offers a chance at meditation, peace, and contemplation. The Thrax Manor is an edifice about our dominance, but this is about renewal.
Why do I write about a building, Scholar? Because those who come after us should know that our life was not without beauty and hope.
