The artists there impressed me with their skill and imagination. I do not wish to embarrass anyone by putting them on the spot, though can do so if you like! Let me just say that I enjoyed the non-representative themes. The inclusion of our King in a painting of the foreigners and all of us performers in one painting, on another a missing Wolf's Guide. One with the lady twined with a black spire.
Thank you artists.
I am very grateful to Lady Monique for opening the Gilded Page to us.

Relationship Note on Monique
beneath the besieged city,
she stole treasures and wonders
but lost herself.
She forgot her own name, and the password that opened
the secret door of her family's house,
and the scent of the first lover whose throat she slit
during the act of love.
Her mothers demanded the help of seraphs and charlatans
in vain
until a blind pauper urged them to seek the White Library,
presided over by a holy scholar who knew with absolute certitude
the difference between truth and lies.
In the White Library, the scholar warned the mothers
that the price they'd pay for a cure was regret,
and they said, "That is precisely the same cost as not trying to heal
our beloved daughter."
So the holy scholar murdered the Duchess of Thieves
and blamed her mothers,
who blinded themselves and lived as paupers,
urging grieving parents to seek the White Library,
unshakable in their faith that
one day
a woman with a trembling voice and tearful eyes
would slay certainty
and release his prisoners.

It is more than I imagined. More lovely, more thought-provoking, more provocative than I expected!
I am in love with this artwork.
My Lady, my deepest, most heartfelt thanks to you.
It is a wonder.

I think, however, the award for greatest decoration had to be the tank of water, boat and statuary that made up the story of Sednaya. It was all just breathtaking. The contests were fun, and while I was a teensy bit disappointed not to have won, Josephine's splendor was not to be denied. Hers was such a generous grace too, giving back the treasure to the academy. A wise and fine woman, our guildmistress.
I am looking forward to the upcoming Keaton Autumn Festival. It has been quite a while since Keaton has hosted something of this magnitude, and I hope it goes well. I do, afterall, have so much inspiration to draw from, given Lady Monique's legendary party-throwing skills.

It is times like these I wish I had one extra hand, because my brood scattered in three different directions when I shouted. Of course I only managed to grab the twins. Nia got away dodging myself and the guard.
My dear sister, Monique, I shall be deeply cross if I find out that you've been teaching that minx a few tricks. Certainly she didn't get this from me.

If 100 writs of any kind, or 25K in silver, is too much to pay then hire someone to run it on your behalf as your assistant and pay them less than the payment you will be making to The Crown. A payment which will be made to assist the good common people of this city. To keep the city safe, to help the Thralls and to follow His Majesty's dreams.
The 25,000 in silver works out as 100 writs converted with our good marketplace broker at an average of 250 per writ. The broker's current average is 261 so if you sold 100 writs to him, you would end up with a profit. Perhaps the first in the history of your shop.

Though I'm not a particularly charitable woman, in truth, I do believe you're doing a good thing in giving people the chance to feed their curiosity by way of the written word. I hope it continues.

However, by fortune alone - and a realisation I didn't quite have time for it - I'd asked Eshken Greenblood to take over the shop just days prior, so I don't have my name on it any longer.
But yes, 25000 silver in fees to the crown for charities, Lady Monique. Maybe you could run monthly charity events to gain charity for your charity shop?

I will never ever volunteer myself for something like this again. I needed to have budgeted for new clothes, for loss of sleep. There has a fair mix between mean and kind pranks played upon me. My favorite is waking and looking out my window to see artwork. A large tortoise, and what I can only assume to be myself riding upon the back with a carrot upon a stick in front of the mouth of it. Truly wondrous.
Some of you have ruined my clothing, and my sleep.

Relationship Note on Monique
When the caravan driver sees, at the horizon, the spires rising into view, the snapping flags, the gold and white tiles, he thinks of a ship; he knows the capitol is a city, but he dreams a vessel that will carry him away from the dunes, a windjammer about to cast off, with the breeze swelling the sails; and he thinks of all the ports, with dragonmilk and thistlebone uncrated on foreign docks, with taverns where pinch-gangs slash broken bottles at each other, and with streets of lighted windows, each framing a woman combing her hair.
However, from the coastline's haze, the captain of the tall-masted ship, gazing upon the capitol of Dustmarch, discerns the form of an embroidered saddle swaying; she knows she observes a city, but she dreams a laden ox from whose packs clatter with whiskey-casks and bags of candied figs, date wine in gourds, banana leaves in bitter liquor, and she sees herself at the head of a caravan escorting her twice-masked passenger away from the barren sea toward oases of fresh water among the palm trees, each with a different scent of sandalwood, each framing a man removing his robes.
Every face is dreamed into being by the desert it reflects. Our paths diverge in the islands; we arrive in the capitol of Dustmarch much changed.
(Scribbled below the story: "For sister Monique Greenmarch. Coin and truth, both have two faces like capitol. The scent of her letter helps me sleep." In an even scratchier scrawl: "Brother Vere Dhan doesn't believe in gods or kings, only cloth puppets on broken strings, each one exactly like the next. He paid already and received nothing.")
