Relationship Note on Ida

Cestus? Caestus? Festus?

Who knows. Who cares. Visiting Dame Ferron's shop, I had never before been witness to such a tasteful collection of dangerous items. Blades of edge so keen the very air in the shop seems to come in severed waves like the metal swords there inadvertently cuts them, and their simplicity - thus ergonomics of the workplace - show in each.

It's easy to be lost in the beauty of it all and forget that they're all made with the explicit goal of fucking you up. And fucking you up good.

Relationship Note on Ida

Nice. Nifty. Pleasures. Jubilant? Euphoric? Historic. Pleasing. Teasing? Grand! Certainly, probably. Grand, it is, then to be seen, noticed, granted such glorious place in your memory, personally, yes.

So, o-one this one time, I was, like, captured in a tavern with the door held guard by this stone-thing. Now, hear me out now, I-I don't have the word to describe the thing at the door save 'stone like' and pretty sure it wanted to murder me at some point, right? Right.

So, anyways, like, I-I don't reeeaaally remember the entire plot to that story, but the memory is kinda hazy, but, but hear me out meow, I made that thing laugh so hard the stone split and tell to pieces, dig? Surely but positively, damn thing probably, maybe, didn't want to murder me so much. Possibly.

Also there was this woman there, laughing her figurative balls off. It was nice. A good time, really really.

Relationship Note on Ida

Dame Ferron,

If I may be so bold to praise, that in your latest creation of Alaricite you didn't just simply win the bout, you enraptured the crowd while doing so and then went on to win all the accolades as you knocked series upon series of teeth off of contestants' mouths on the way to the top,

It was brutal, and an honor to watch,
Thank you.

Relationship Note on Ida

Dame Ida Ferron mentioned something recently that I must touch on.

She mentioned that she was struggling with creativity and yet she delivered a weapon to me that has embodied my entire adulthood. Its name reflects my future, but its make marks my past. Goldenshade is a magnificent weapon and proof indeed that Dame Ida has not lost her touch for originality nor her talent for exceptionalism.

Thank you, Dame Ida. Thank you for your time and your willingness to work through struggles. As promised, I will not let this weapon dishonor you.

Relationship Note on Ida

The only thing that excels Dame Ida's talent is her generosity of spirit. I cannot thank her enough for the generosity she's shown me, and I cannot wait for the world to see her work in the upcoming play (oh, yes, we are in rehearsals now, and I am thrilled beyond what mere words can tell).

Relationship Note on Ida

I'm quite honored that you took the time to respond to the frustrations I aired. In my career as a pit fighter, and ever more so with my recent experience in places of Arx not constrained to the Lowers, your name has come up time and time again as an example of one who walks a path near to that which I walk.

It means a great deal to read your words, and to have you weigh in on what I already know to be true:

Underestimate the empty hand of an opponent at your own peril. Even those who pride their weapons are not immune to a well placed strike.

I miss Sir Daemon as well. I had to slap him in the face one time. He was steadfast and gracious, as always.

Relationship Note on Ida

I can always recommend the work of Dame Ida. Not just the quality, which is sublime, and not just the designs, which inspire tears at the beauty that can be placed into tools for such crude work as battle, and the honouring of Jayus in that work. But because she is a good person who has never asked me about her safety when I have had to ask for her skills on a mission for the Faith. Any who are good deserve our support.

Of course in Dame Ida's case her work is sublime and beautiful too - so even if you are more pragmatic it is a sensible recommendation. If you wish to know how good? I gave one of her weapons as a gift to a Legate - and I hope we all know how I feel about honouring the senior ranks of the Faith, and thus how high my demands are for such a present.

Relationship Note on Ida

Some time ago, the Minister of Medicine for my House and Guildmaster Reigna Keaton of the Physicians Guild held an event to raise money and donations for the people of the Lowers so that they might have warm clothing, blankets and other necessities for the winter. At this event, by some miracle of Lagoma, I won a contest of medical skill, for which I was given a hideous second place badge, no doubt crafted by Rukhnis herself with that sad and decrepit excuse for skill and beauty, called by some "love and care."

Thankfully, I was also given a second and far more valuable prize by Guildmaster Reigna: an imperial oathlands longblade, such as the instructor of my youth, Sir Roland, used to carry. So beautiful and well-crafted was the blade, that I asked the Guildmaster who made it, to which she replied the renown weaponsmith Dame Ida Ferron, the Hammer of the West.

I recently contacted Dame Ida to see if I might commission a second sword of similar length and weight, but in the style of the Northlands to compliment the blade given to me by Guildmaster Reigna. The weapon I received from Dame Ida is a true masterpiece - beyond even my wildest expectations. It captures the essence of the Northlands and the very storms after which my homeland is named. It is inspiring to hold in each hand weapons so perfectly representing my heritage, and an honor to carry the manifestations of Dame Ida's skill and creativity.

Some might ask, "How is making my daggers qualification enough for her to make large, if handsome, fuzzy bunny slippers?" And to those people, my wife particularly, I say bah! Or puh! Or any other sound expression with a similar sentiment, you know the ones.

Relationship Note on Ida

Rarely am I humbled. One might argue that it has, in fact, never actually happened before. But on this day, I am humbled out of gratitude for the sheer magnitude of this favor that Dame Ida Ferron has shown me.

The Sweetest Whisper, my perfectly balanced alaricite dagger.

The third alaricite weapon of her creation, and I will stoutly argue, the best, no matter who dares challenge such assertions. The story of this blade is etched in every single perfect line, inspired by bright stars in the darkest night, by love and betrayal, by my very essence.

It is awe-inspiring, like the woman who made it.

Relationship Note on Ida

As always, Dame Ida produces genuinely excellent work. I commissioned two pairs of hairpins inspired by the Northlands from her for my raffle basket, and they are perfect in every single way. Not that I'm surprised by this as I own more sets of hairpins forged by her hand than I know what to do with sometimes. Each one is a treasure, and I know that these will find the right home.

We are blessed to have so many amazing craftspeople in our fair city. I only hope they know how sincerely appreciated they are for supplying us with such beautiful things.

You were a most valuable friend, as you have been for some time, to the Templars in helping us, Dame Ida. We do not expect all who work with us to join us - we enjoy working with others. And certainly your skill in the forge is a joy not just to Jayus but I hope to the other Gods as well, I hope we will have more opportunities to work together soon - perhaps on something happier.

Relationship Note on Ida

Dame Ida is a steadfast woman who stands by her word and has a greater faith than I knew. And I speak not of Faith in the gods (though she has that too), but a faith in people.

It's a faith that I respect and one that I could do to learn from.

Relationship Note on Ida

I do think that Dame Ida must be a tiny bit psychic, as she always seems to know what an outfit needs even before I've worn it or spoken of it. This time, her shop was stocked with new items of the new green gem everyone is so enchanted with. Green is my favorite color, and the hairpins are reminiscent of the woods in winter. I feel it was simply made for me, and funnily enough, I had just designed and had made a silvery green gown in seatouched wool -- swool! I forgot I had so abbreviated it -- feeling my winter wardrobe was wanting.

May Jayus continue to inspire her to such lovely creations. And thank you, House Stahlben, for sharing this beautiful new gem with us.

Not only am I blessed to have this beautiful seraphinite bear necklace but I lucked upon some exquisite hairpins as well. Jayus truly blesses dame Ida's work, and my collection of hairpins wrought into this world by her skilled hands only continues to grow by leaps and bounds. I cannot wait to put together the perfect outfit to display both her and Lady Volcica's artistry. And these glorious gemstones, of course.

Relationship Note on Ida

Never did I imagine I would commission a weapon, especially one of diamondplate.

Dame Ida's work is so exquisite. I do not know if I should truly fire an arrow with this bow or put the weapon in a frame and hang it in a hall where all can admire it. It is truly a work of art, and she is a joy to work with, always putting the customer first.

I need to learn more in order to make myself worthy of this weapon. Another thing I never expected I would do -- move beyond the basics in any sort of martial art. But times change, and we must adapt with them. Forward progress is a must.

Ever soaring.

Relationship Note on Ida

Dame Ida Ferron has outdone herself so many times before, it doesn't seem possible to keep doing it, and yet she does. Her selection of hairpins adorned by skulls and spiders to honor the Queen of Endings and Beginnings for the upcoming Festival of Death are just so delightful and charming. I would never have thought myself to be pleased to wear a spider or skull in my hair, but I will do so happily, for they are so adorable. And as some of the proceeds are being donated to the Harlequins as well, she is generous as well as talented.

I am delighted to report that the master craftsman, Ida Ferron, has agreed to be my protege. I look forward to promulgating her beautiful work to any and all who have not already seen it. I've never seen a weapon she has made that has failed to delight me and I look forward to seeing what she creates next.

May Jayus inspire you always, Dame Ida!
