Relationship Note on Agnarr

I have encountered a kinsmen after strolling into the first big, stone building that I encountered. We were offered a drink by some of the local patrons, with the mention that we should also pour a drink for the honored dead.

Therefore, I poured half my drink on the ground as that is where the honored dead go, an act which apparantly surprised most of the locals.

Relationship Note on Agnarr

Having fought Master Agnarr, who is a giant of a Redrain man, I feel like I can say with some measure of authority that I might be capable of wrestling a bear. While I jest, mostly, it was a really awesome spar and I am pretty happy with my performance. The fight lasted longer than I thought it might, though in the end I lost and, thus, owe the Redrain housecarl and Valorous a weapon of his choosing. I really kind of thought I was coming back and might win, but, alas. So close. Maybe next time!

The giant!

I defeated him once in a spar, but only because I had Sigurd fighting with me.

I wasn't at my most mature when I danced around him going we defeated The Giant of Compact.

He took that pretty well.

And then in our next spar with just us two he won by a landslide and left me pretty bruised.

Still I stood up him longer and I will take longer.

If I can withstand the giant's blows a little longer each day, it is a victory.

So close. I think that's about the closest I've ever come to beating you. You're getting faster though and you still hit like an ox.

Damn the north breeds giants. I bet you this guy could out drink me as well as out muscle me. Problematic.

Relationship Note on Agnarr

Read the last paragraph, again. Still, there is much more to be said.

Axes and polearms borne in both hands are the natural next step for a man in full plate steel harness, so long as he doesn't need to hold a place in a shield wall.

Besides, two handed swords and axes are shit for fighting in formation. Fine weapons for a duel, but for war? A few men with large axes in the back ranks and at the corners will have good work on a battlefield, but not for the rank and file.

Polearms with a lead thrusting point are fine for formation, and add the merit of cutting with great force if the lines get scattered, or for finishing off a downed horse and rider.

Then there are pikes.
There's nothing quite like a block of pikes for making an otherwise bold warrior say, "Fuck it, let the artillery soften them up for a while." Mortal power behind the thrust, takes so little space to brace and wield that dozens of the things can get points on a man who charges from the front. Dead men if they lose discipline, though.

Relationship Note on Agnarr

I happened to encounter the Redrain housecarl in a training match. He's not very talkative but seems like a good straightforward fellow. It's a little fuzzy when I try to recall more detail, however. I should endeavor to not intercept that padded greatsword of his with my helmet in any future sparring engagements.

Relationship Note on Agnarr

The Housecarl of Redrain, who tends to ignore titles, is a blunt but pleasant man who was quite pleasant when met in the training center. Could he have a grudge against Anze? He did not seem terribly approving when we discussed the man, but Anze is gruff enough for it to just be a natural reaction.

Met Agnarr at The Grotto. Seems like a decent enough fellow. Big though.

One day, warns someone to be careful after something said. Another, I want to throttle him for not taking his own advice.

That mountain of a man managed to fight me until we were both out of breath and needed to stop, with neither of us fallen. That's...Never happened to me before. Oh defeat? Sure, it happens to all. But never just...Having to stop. It was quite weird and unsatisfying.

Good fighter. Too big for this world. Fuck that sword of his. Can put away whiskey with the best of them, which only makes sense, because he has a stomach the size of a cow's to put it into.

Relationship Note on Agnarr

I had the opportunity to spar with Agnarr today, though it became more of a duel as it progressed. I didn't expect to win. In fact, I figured I would lose horribly, but I couldn't pass the opportunity to get a chance to both test and improve my rather limited skills. Forging a blade is one thing, using it to split the skin of a living, and breathing person is another thing entirely. Especially when that person is the size of a bear, and covered in metal.

It did go as I expected, in that I lost. But I was able to retain a small snippet of pride in that I lasted longer than I thought I would. Which means he did not immediately pummel me to the ground. Yay for small victories.

The bottle of whiskey, which was not paid for anyways, was won. And hopefully I've acquired a future friend and sparring partner.

Relationship Note on Agnarr

A giant of a man from Northern stock; I have hired him to be my personal guard. He has told me of his past and the reasons for what he does now, but for I'll see to it that he is helped whether it is to get back to where he was or where-ever it is he wishes to go to next.

I wouldn't have made him shave the beard even if I did win the bet. It is too fetching on him.
