Hunt & Bonfire

This scene will be primarily social. The first half hour to hour will be the hunt -- some rolls, a couple of poses, and then bringing the food back -- and the rest will be the bonfire party on the beach where the food is cooked and then eaten. If there's nothing caught, that'll be fine -- Setarco's Duchess will be ensuring that there will be plenty of Setarco's signature cuisine for such events on hand if needs be (that means it's fish. it's a lot of gross fish that most people won't want unless they happen to like Setarco's food nobody should. please hunt well). In addition to food, there will be wine and dancing. It's an open party (no invitations sent nor needed), though there will be guards and those guards will be keeping the rougher elements of Arx away from the delicate flowers of the nobility and well-to-do commoners.

Tagapagtanggol arrives, following Joscelin.

Joscelin arrives, following Felix.

"You are not the only one that has had to deal with offended princesses," Belladonna laments with a bit of a face made, a shake of her head. "They are everywhere, I think." She does chuckle though, tilts her glass to him when he blows that half-laugh out. "All of the accosting and the yelling and the horrible faces they make..." She trails off there, gives Cassius a wide-eyed look. She and the Nightgold Lord are standing beneath one of the pavillions with glasses of wine and conversation. Thus far, it looks mostly like the Pravus staff and guards are the only people hanging about.

Whisper, Slayer of Mice arrives, following Killian.

Killian arrives, following Aislin.

"Well. Here's to upset princesses, then," Cassius says, and lifts his wine glass before he takes a swig. Yes, a swig of wine, because to hell with sipping. It's just grape juice, right. "Mmm. Is the wine from somewhere...?" he asks, eyeing it. THen a pause. "I mean, somewhere that it's important I pretend to know about it?" he asks further, and clarifies his question. Cassius is standing under one of the pavillions, standing beside Belladonna.

One white-haired Ashford adventurer enters, trailing another behind; Aislin drags her cousin Killian onwards. "Look, I hate crowds as much as anyone else, but events like this are as close as you'll get to adventuring within the city." She pauses, upon spotting /another/ cousin; Cassius receives a nod in greeting.

Quiet, the Grayward champion, Donella arrive, following Rook.

When the second of the white-haired Ashford's stops behind his cousin, Killian is amused, "Oh I hardly think that's the case, you just have to broaden your horizons on how you define adventures.." he quips back, "after all, I'm sure I can find all sorts of trouble to get into that would end with someone chasing me angrily." He looks up as a huge snowy owl swoops in, landing upon his leather-reinforced shoulder.

Valencia arrive in red silks and excellent humour. Her long dark waves worn without adornment, flowing perhaps a bit wild over her shoulders and down her back. She stops and smiles at familiar faces, giving a cheerful nod to Tobias, Cassius and Felix -- and casting curious glance at those who are new.

With the arrival of Donella comes a noble courtier, Rook Grayward, his verdant outfit a complimentary colour to his emerald eyes. The Bastion gentleman has his arm linked with the Thraxian princess and Voice, a conversational murmur ongoing as they stride down along the sands towards the pavilions. "Sand is such a hassle to walk in, I find," the man is saying, "and I'm not much used to it. It gets -everywhere-. I'll be finding it in my boots for days, I daresay."

Nyx, a black falcon arrives, following Aislin.

Felix and Joscelin arrive via merchant cart, given the weaponsmith's contribution to the hunt. Several bundles of arrows are carried in what look to be iron fire barrels. The rental cart is drawn by two older-looking mares that seem generally disinterested in moving faster than a slow trot. Still! Extra arrows and iron fire barrels have arrived to the party. Upon their arrival, Felix turns his head to smile at Joscelin who sits next to him on the cart. "Ought to be a fun time. I won't be huntin' but ye've got some talent with a bow, aye?" The cart pulls to a stop finally and Felix descends so he can make his way 'round to help Joscelin down from the high seat of the cart.

Molly arrives, following Bethany.

"This? Yes, it's from the place that was willing to sell me something not *completely* awful for a steal because I was buying so much of it," Belladonna admits, keeping her voice low as she gives Cassius an amused look. "You can pretend to know it's from a vineyard outside of Setarco, because it is," she assures him. "I'll find you something better once things get going, I promise." When she spots Valencia she lifts her glass in greeting that way. "Whiskey or rum?"

There are horses being assembled up above the beaches, as some of the staff get ready to attend those nobles that will be hunting.

Tagapagtanggol arrives, following Joscelin.

Aislin eyes Killian. "Just as long as you don't draw any angry mobs to the Ashford gates," she informs her cousin wryly; her tone is informal as she jokes with him, much the way she speaks when she has a chance to escape the city for a time. "I'm pretty sure Harlan doesn't need any more headaches."

Valencia grins at Belladonna and moves to her side, offer a little kiss on the cheek. "I think rum, considering the occasion and the location," her eyes dance. "It is good to see you," she smiles with delight.

Bethany tugs up the hood of her cape as she tromps down toward the pavillions assembled on the beach, with Molly (the other floppy-haired, shiny-eyed creature) that is gamboling at Beth's heel. She narrows an assessive eye at the wine on offer, idly, as she passes by to tuck herself up in a place to sit and watch the staff prepare the horses for the hunt.

"It's a lovely vintage," Cassius says, swirling the glass before he sniffs again. "I can smell the grapes," he tells her, and follows it with a grunt. The glass comes to his lips and he takes another gulp, before lowering it. He lifts one hand, giving a small greeting towards Valencia. "Princess Valencia," he says, for a greeting. Cassius' eyes then catch Aislin, and his brows go up. There's a modest surprise. "Aislin!" he says, with more energy than he usually displays. As a quick aside, he murmurs to Belladonna, "Cousin of mine. My aunt fled south to marry a duke. Ashford," he says, tacking the name on so she has a point of reference.

Donella responds to Rook's reflections on the nature of sand, "I have heard that as well as having experienced it. But think of the oysters, Minister Grayward-- perhaps we will make pearls after such great irritation. I hear they are therapeutic for any number of maladies. Might as well simply doff the boots and go about with your toes bared." She says something rather quieter, smiles, and pauses to make a greeting obeisance for their hostess.

Joscelin takes Felix's help getting down, the short, plump jeweler garbed in curve-fitting silks that leave her back and the scars there exposed, thighs flexing as she moves to help him unload the cart.

"I've a little skill," the Guildmaster corrects the blacksmith. "My mother was the archer, she taught me a little but then I discovered metalwork and silver and promptly forgot." Even in silks, Joscelin has no problem helping. She passes things to Felix too, for him to take and set up as he needs. "Viktarkim gave me a few lessons. I'd forgotten how much I enjoyed the bow until this past fall."

There's a grin from Killian, "Oh come now, I'm sure that Harlan would enjoy a break from the paperwork..and as long as we don't mention to him the amount of paperwork he's going to have to do after it's over, he'll never even notice.." he says with a wink. His eyes roam through the gathering crowd, a small smile on his lips, "But I suppose I'll have to behave this evening at least."

Dagon steps foot onto the beaches, lifting his head and breathing the sea air in with a deep breath. "This is much better." He says to nobody in particular, smiling and stepping towards the others starting to gather for this little shindig. He offers nods to those he recognizes, quirks a grin at his sister and her companion, and then seeks out something to drink.

"Cass! It's been too long." It seems that Cassius, too, earns the familial form of address from Aislin, rather than the normal formal tone. Or perhaps the white-haired adventuress is just glad to be out in the open air, away from the noise and crowd of the city. "Killian, this is Lord Cassius Nightgold, my cousin. Cass, this is Lord Killian Ashford, my /other/ cousin."

"Hello, cousins of Lord Cassius," Belladonna speaks up as they approach, and she lifts her glass to the pair of them in greeting. She does finally ease over to politely take Cassius's arm, doing so before she lifts her chin for Valencia, tips her head to receive the kiss to her cheek. "It is good to see you, as well," she says. "I do not think you need introductions?" She cannot quite help but stare at the owl. Is that still an owl there? She flags a servant down, doesn't let go of Cassius as she turns to speak softly to the man that makes to head away.

Sipping her rum, Princess Valencia gives Duchess Belladonna's arm an affection squeeze. "You are hosting the party and I will not steal you for myself. But we should visit soon." Another peck on the cheek sends the little ravine-haired princess moving through crowd, sending Cassius a little wave and nearly bumping into Prince Dagon, "Your pardon," she blushes slightly and gives him a dazzling smiles. "Lovely to see you, Prince. I am glad to see you."

For once, Tobia is not wearing his steel plate or his Blades Tunic. Instead, he's opted for rugged, breathable leathers... which does even less than usual to hide his massive musculature with the way it is designed to not bunch up and is thin enough for spring. "Been a while since I did a hunt." Tobias remarks, before Valencia is spotted upon his approach. "Good evening, Your Highness." Tobias is actually acknowledging someone? Must be an off day. Nonetheless, the well-maintained bow sits across his chest for a moment, but gets dropped to the ground as he finds a nice spot to sit, starting to work on his arrows.

Rook walks alongside Donella toward Belladonna, his short laugh the only answer for the advice given about how best to enjoy the moment at the beach. "Duchess Pravus, how do you do. It is a great pleasure to be amongst your company with your family's hospitality." The inclination of his head, the angle of his torso, it is marginally deeper than the curtsy his companion inevitably provides as etiquette dictates. Eyes for the two pavilions and the rest of the scenary are sharp, then he wonders aloud: "Do you wish to be on your feet or sat as we mingle, your highness? I am assuming you won't be hunting but you'll forgive me if I am wrong in that. I certainly shall not be, lest I misfire and catch a poor attendant with an arrow."

It's hard to make a sweeping bow when there's an owl perched upon ones shoulder, so Killian smiles and nods his head deeply to Cassius as they are introduced. "Lord Cassius, a pleasure to make your acquaintance." The owl on his shoulder looks entirely disinterested with the group, as her perch greets people cheerfully.

Fortunately, there are servants present to help Felix and Joscelin unload the heavy barrels from the cart. Delivery only, as promised. Felix spends a moment with Josceling getting the cart unloaded before leaving the rest of it to the servants of the hosting house. There were instructions to come and have fun, after all. When it appears the servants have it under control, the weaponsmith bumps her elbow with his in warm playfulness. "Why don't you get ready for the hunt while I set up a table for the arrows? Afterwards, there will be plenty of time to greet Duchess Pravus, dance, and everything else."

Valencia smiles at Tobias and offers a nod. "My Lord, I did not think to see you here, I am delighted," she say offering her hand to him. "What enticed you from your Crimson Blades?"

"Lord Killian," Cassius says, with a dip of his head. He then tilts his head to the side, to the woman that's taken his arm. "This is Duchess Belladonna Pravus, hostess of this event," he tells the pair. Cassius then turns to Rook, and inclines his head, as the man approaches Bella (and Cassius, as he is attached). His eyes go back to Aislin and Killian. "Will you two be joining the hunt?"

Solemn and solitary, Darrow makes the walk down the path to the beaches at a slow, but deliberate pace. He appears at least a little bit more comfortable to be near the sea, and he casts his gaze out over the water for some time, before he continues down towards the tents and gathering. He arrives next to the Ashfords, and looks between Aislin, Cassius and Killian for a moment, glancing over at the Thrax who seem to be near the other tent. "There is a hunt?" he asks, querying of them softly, having heard Cassius's question to Aislin and Killian.

"I need the practice, and I can bring any kills back to the outpost." Tobias replies as Valencia approaches him, and he hands her hand for a kiss to the hand, before he nods to the city walls. "Less logistics for me to deal with, right?"

"I do better with a sharpened stick in a tide pool... if not a barrel. There was practice in my childhood. But surely it is not as bad as all that?" she asks him in a joking tone. "Anyone may gig a fish, my lord. At lest, as long as they are willing to lose a foot, or someone elses to the endeavor?" She gestures to the pavilion, and says, "I think the pavilion sounds like a fine idea."

Ianthe saunters down to the beach, whistling a sea shanty under her breath. She stops when she sees the party and rakes a hand through her wind-blown curls to at least offer the semblance of respectability, before she moves in a little closer. She looks around, her dark eyes full of amusement as she sees her beloved beach transformed into a party-scape. "Well, this could be interesting," she murmurs with a grin.

"A pleasure, Duchess." As soon as she's speaking to someone outside the family, Aislin apparently shifts back her more customary formal phrasing. "I'm glad someone is willing to organize an event like this. It's good to have an excuse to get outside the city walls now and then."

Aislin's falcon Nyx circles high overhead, keeping an eye on things below. (And watching for food being laid out which she can dive and steal, because Nyx gotta be Nyx.)

Joscelin runs her hands through her own curls, unconsciously mimicking her sister as she readjusts the steel haircombs to tuck her hair from her face, chuckling at Felix at the warm nudge. "I am ready. No sleeves to get hung up, freedom of movement. I'm not very -good-, mind you, but I'm willing to give it a whirl." At the notion of fun and dance, a funny expressions flits across Joscelin's face.

There is a warm smile offered for Rook and Donella; Belladonna bows her head to them, straightening up again. "A pleasure," she offers to Aislin and Killian before she is noting for Donella and Rook, "This is Lord Cassius Nightgold," she introduces. The little blonde trades her glass of wine for the rum when the servant brings it, and he offers the same for Cassius. When Bella spots Felix and Joscelin, she lifts her glass in greeting, though she doesn't holler or anything.

Rook catches sight of Cassius' nod and spares him a bow, a silent flick of his fingers to his head as if to tip an imaginary hat. "My lord, how do you do. Rook Grayward of Bastion." he greets in brief recognition and return, if not spending time enough to shoot the breeze. "Perhaps I'll see you at the banquet table later, if our fine hunters bring back anything worth eating, hm?" After the required moment of thanks spared for the hostess he wanders toward the pavilion, making the effort to lengthen his stride up the dunes. "I've never fished or hunted with a degree of success I'd feel confident in sharing. That said," continues Rook in reply to Donella, "I have been known to provide enough morale support that I can claim partial credit."

Valery arrives, following Leta.

Cassius rather uncoothly upends his glass of wine, drains the rest of it, then sets it on a platter. He takes the rum, so that hand dare not go empty. He looks to Rook and Donella, and just gives a nod. "A pleasure," he grumbles out in a tone that doesn't quite seem like he finds it to be pleasurable at all. It seems that when he's not yelling at Aislin from a little ways off, he's just going to stand here and look unapproachable. That is, stand directly next to Duchess Belladonna and look unapproachable. Fun.

There's a grin from Killian, "I fear I'm not much of a huntsman..to be honest, Whisper has a tendency to drop an extra hare off from time to time when we're out in the wilderness.. It says something when your pets are taking pity on your hunting ability doesn't it?" he muses, "still though, someone has to be the worst at things, so I'm certainly game to embarass myself and thus spare another from having to come in upon the final place in the hunt.."

Donella says, "I think that you came last summer aboard my boating excursion with your Duchess, Lord Cassius. Princess Donella Thrax, Voice of Prince Donrai of Maelstrom," she says. "My thanks, good lady Duchess." she says and is lead. "What do you do in the way of moral support? Here fishy fishy fish? Good fishy?" She points. "I think that is my brother, there. Mind the breakers, Dagon!""

Valery reaches the beach following Leta, and her eyes wide in awe at the sight of the place (and, nervously, at the sight of so many people in one place.) She looks around, getting closer to the other woman.

Ianthe sees Belladonna and offers her a low bow, grinning wordlessly as the Duchess seems busy with those of higher rank and more importance than the little trader. But still. Courtesy is courtesy. Upon spotting Joscelin and Felix, Ianthe offers a wave and calls out, "Have we started hunting things yet? I brought my bow!" She beams proudly and bounds up to the two with a little laugh.

Felix grins down at Joscelin's response before leaning down /pretty/ far to press an affectionate kiss to her cheek. "From what I unnerstand, ya don't haave t'be particularly good at it. I'd have northerners gut-laughing watchin' me aim a bow...or writin' some sort o' epic tragedy about it. Me ego can't take the hit, but yer gorgeous. They'll go easy." He flashes a broad, playful smile to her then before giving her another playful nudge. "Go on, then. I'll see ya after the hunt's been concluded."

With greetings made, Aislin turns now to Darrow. "There's a hunt," she confirms. "And a bonfire to follow, here on the beach. Though if it's a competition, I don't know precisely how they're planning to keep score unless everyone catches the same thing. I'm not sure of cross-species math, otherwise; how many rabbits equal one bear?"

"Ah," Cassius says, when Donella points out where he's met her. He inclines his head. "Forgive me, Princess. It has been a whirlwind since my return to Arx," he grumbles out. There's a dip of his head, respectful even while surly, then Cassius looks to Killian and can't help that smirk that breaks his grumpy expression. "Such generosity," Cassius says, to Killian.

Dagon steps up behind Rook and Donella, and catches Cassius' name and nods, "Seems to me that the number of Nightgolds I know increases with each passing week. Lord Cassius, Duchess. So good to see you two, thank you for hosting this. A question... we can hunt anything we want, right?" He flashes a smile at his sister. "I suspect you are reading my mind, yes? Well, I'll try and make sure you and your companion here have something. No promises though, but I'll return soon enough."

Joscelin nods to Belladonna and gives a smile, then turns to see Ianthe bound up and wraps her little sister in a tight hug, and then there's a kiss to her round cheek from a pretty blacksmith. She clears her throat and blushes, and then pinches Ianthe for the look she knows she'll be getting.

"No hunting yet," says the Guildmaster, taking her sister's arm and glaring playfully at Felix over her shoulder as she walks, her own bow slung over her other shoulder. "But soon. How are you, Trouble?" she asks Ianthe, grinning at her.

Valencia nods warmly to Tobias and smiles again as he kisses her hand. "Yes, I would suppose so. You don't have much time for hunting and parties I suppose. Very efficient to do both, yes?" She takes another sip of her rum and a little breath, eyes moving across the crowd as the party buzzes around her.

Leta descends to the vicinity of the beach. Reluctantly. Her brow furrows and she casts her worried gaze downward as her new boots tread on sand. But she steels herself for the enormous sacrifice and draws near the pavilions, steering Valery along familiar paths. "Here you are, then." she stops and gestures with a gloved hand towards the festivities. "You'll enjoy yourself, Valery, I'm sure."

"I normally keep the liquid refreshments company and ensure they needn't wander into the hands of strangers," Rook says with a jovial amount of pride. "It's important work, I'll have you know." When Donella starts to call to her royal sibling, his gaze finds Dagon and observes the interaction. "I had heard of the arrangement for his marriage," he murmurs to Donella, "soon you will have a sister in law, no? How do you find that prospect." As they pass by Valencia he inclines his head deeply, raises an arm and presents a wave. "Your highness," he greets. "Princess Valencia of House Redrain if I'm not mistaken? Would you like to join us at the tables in the pavilion or are you looking to hunt, I wonder?" Dagon's own promise of something to drink causes him to laugh, a smile given: "You're too kind. I hate to starve."

Valery nods at Leta, her eyes still wide trying to take on all the things around.

Darrow replies to Aislin, dourly. "A great many rabbits." He looks at Dagon, Rook and Donella, who have approached from the other side, and his head inclines sharply. "Prince Dagon, Princess Donella." he states to them respectfully, though doesn't interrupt their introductions with the Nightgolds.

There's an apologetic smile sent up Cassisu's direction before Belladonna lets go of his arm and steps away just enough that when she lifts her voice, she's not yelling directly in the ears of any of those nearby. "I believe our riders have finished assembling up above, for those of you that wish to join the hunt!" When she turns back, she does twinkle a smile to Dagon. "The object of the hunt is to bring back things that we can eat later tonight," she tells him. "But there are no limitations beyond that. I do have staff here to bleed and dress whatever is taken." She does circle back to Cassius's side, pausing to smile and greet anyone who steps in to say hello.

"More trouble than usual, I'm afraid. Just got back from running a route for Count Darkwater." Ianthe's expressive eyes roll faintly, but she continues to grin. She glances over her shoulder at Felix and waggles her fingers at him before turning to murmur to Joscelin, "So that's a thing now?"

Joscelin turns bright red and inches Ianthe's hip. "Hush," she squeaks, and then blushes harder because she squeaked.

"My northern cousins /are/ fairly plentiful," Aislin agrees to Dagon when he mentions the increasing quantity of Nightgolds. "And I feel like most of them have come to the city recently." Rook, too, receives a respectful nod; it's always nice to see another Crownlander here.

Rook has joined the Wooden Picnic Table.

Valencia smiles at Rook and nods. "Yes, Lord Rook, yes?" she smiles at him, eyes gleaming with delight. "I would be very happy to, my Lord." She turns to smile at Tobias before being whisked away by Lord Rook, "You and I still must have our dinner. You will call on me, yes"

Valencia has joined the Wooden Picnic Table.

Bethany has joined the Quiet Strand.

Ianthe swats Joscelin's hand away and laughs, "I'm not saying that I don't approve. You certainly like 'em big, though." The little trader purposely waggles her brows, her nearly black eyes glittering.

"That's one way to put it." Tobias smirks to Valencia, before the riders are mentioned. "As it so happens, I can ride too." Tobias gives a bow to Valencia as she is whisked away, before he starts to head off. "Time to see how badly I manage to embarass myself." The rest of the crowd gets a wave as he passes by.

Felix beams a grin to Ianthe as well, greeting the sister with a wave of one large hand. This wave is also given to Belladonna in his usual friendly manner. While Joscelin and Ianthe walk off and chat, Felix turns to start arrranging the bundles of arrows on a table so that people can grab them without sustaining or causing horrific puncturing injuries. While he isn't here to work, there's a certain level of obsessive safety he keeps about his forge that is getting tranferred right on over to the handling of the arrows.

Aksel heard about some kind of party, and decided to come check it out. Granted, he hasn't been to any kind of parties in some time, he wasn't sure if he was supposed to bring anything or not. Apporaching the group, he seems a little unsure for the moment, staying, for the moment on the periphrary.

Joscelin's freckled cheeks get even rosier and she's murmuring of curses and trying so hard not to grin.

Tagapagtanggol is mostly well behaved, finding a place in the sand near Felix to sprawl and watch the people come and go, sniffing at the food-smells that waft around here and there, staying out of the way as the giant deerhound is trained to do.

The table under the pavilion that packs what little snacks are available is eventually encountered by Rook. The noble courtier's free hand not linked in arm with Donella's ranges the bowls, collecting a few pieces of fruit to prop against his mouth. A grape, a slice of apple that's barely oxidised. "I fear I am," he tells Valencia easily. There's an indication for Donella to settle herself as he remains standing and then he slips in and sits, adjusting his tailcoats. Catching sight of a nod from Aislin, there's a light smile and a return of one. "Lady Ashford," he calls, adding the Eurusi equivalent of 'hello' in flair of a greeting.

Leta leans in towards Valery, eyeing the woman with an expression of mild concern, "'Tis just people, nothing to worry about if you curtsy to anyone dressed well enough." she advises in a smooth, reassuring tone, waving the whole thing off with one hand. "Stay away from the mead if there's any. And if some hunter comes running and yelling about a boar, you start running too. That's about all I know."

"Guess the cold winters leaves little else to do." Dagon comments to Aislin, smiling. "Alright, well, I better get myself ready for this. I have to at least makes sure my sister eats well enough." He turns, nodding to Darrow. "Lord Darrow, best of luck on the hunt. I admit, a part of me would rather get a spear and take a boat out about four or five hundred yards out to shore and jump in and see what I can catch, but we should challenge ourselves from time to time, yes?"

As Belladonna steps away, Cassius just stands stiffly and waits exactly where she left him. Clearly, he's not here to mingle on his own accord, but instead, perhaps, to be a leaning post for the Duchess. "I believe I'll be hunting," Cassius says, to Belladonna. He then goes back to observing. Spotting Valery, Cassius lifts his glass (as he lacks a free hand) in a small greeting.

Joscelin has joined the In the Water.

Valery nods at Leta, murmuring a soft. "I know, I know..."

Dagon has joined the In the Water.

"Old siblings are ever chagrinned to find themselves in the shadow of their minor brothers and sisters." Donella answers Rook. "Probably it is best not to feel too much about it one way or another. Do you mean, do I get on with the prospective bride?" she asks with a quirk to her lips, and motions that they both take up the important work of cheerleading for the people out menacing the dwellers of the shore. "Your highness," she says to Valencia. "What a beautiful color that is on you," she says and Rook greets Aislin. "I do love a good scarlet."

Tobias has joined the In the Water.

Laughs - sharply, from the out-of-the-way place she has chosen to watch from. After that, Beth's hands snag on the collar of the spaniel's collar to bring her back. "No - no - we do not go running about underfoot, Molly." She chastises the dog and pats down her pockets until she finds the antler tip that she has been giving the dog for a chew toy.

Ianthe has joined the In the Water.

Valery waves lightly at Cassius, seing his gesture. She murmurs a soft "Good day" that's probably missed with all the noise around.

The addition of Eurusi to Rook's greeting earns an actual /laugh/ from Aislin, as she calls back a reply in the same tongue. Mason's not here to criticize her accent today, after all... and so she actually speaks with a slightly less egregiously dockside cant to her tone. (It's no fun to talk like a sailor if her Eurusi friend isn't here to cringe at it.) But then, with a last wave to Rook, she heads off to rejoin her cousins. Taking up a position near Killian and Cassius, she prepares to head out.

Aislin has joined the In the Water.

Joins Lord Rook at the table, giving a little laugh at his word. "My lord, I here at being the dashing Lord Rook is nothing to feared, more enjoyed I would thing." The princess takes another look around and smiles, then turns back to the pleasant company at the table.

Killian seems slightly at a loss in so large a group, as though perhaps not used to such gatherings. As the call for hunters rises, he drifts that way, reaching up to stroke the owl on his shoulder before sending her flying up into the sky. Approaching the hunters he calls out with a grin, "Kindly don't shoot the white owl, she gets perturbed about it.." as he looks about.

"Or the falcon," Aislin remarks, glancing up at Nyx overhead. "Even if she does something to deserve it."

Cassius leans aside, to whisper a few words to Belladonna. Then, his rum glass goes up and he swigs that all down, and sets it aside. "Wish me luck," he says, to the Duchess. Then Cassius is off to follow Aislin and Killian. "You two are seriously ruining my chances here," he grumbles at them.

Cassius has joined the In the Water.

Killian has joined the In the Water.

As Aksel nears the crowd, he spots a couple people he knows. There's little waves for Valencia, Aislin, and Leta. Oh and Belladonna too, he's actually met her too. So weird that he manages to know so many people in one place. But for the time being, he's standing off a little ways and watching all the people get their hunt on. He's no hunter, not with all that armor and axes. Doesn't mean he won't watch.

at the mention of the Count of Darkwater, Darrow looks over at Ianthe. Mostly stoic and solitary still amongst the crowd, he steps down to the slowly growing group of hunters in the wake of Cassius and Killian, eyeing a bow as he passes the table.

"No promises." Tobias remarks as they go along.

"Well," Rook begins diplomatically for Donella, "I am quite excited by the match if for reasons as yet unexplained. I always love to see the changes such unions bring about, not only in their couples forged but the families around them." There's a cheshire grin for Aislin's reciprocative reply and then his head turns toward Valencia and her compliment. "Ah, you see, that there is the difference between rumour and truth. If only you -knew-, your highness. It's so terribly hard being me," he insists, "I daresay I'd like to be that fellow over there," he jests, pointing toward Tobias. "Did you know the man has an army at his beck and call? I've wanted for a tower for the longest while and I've obtained such but I've never had an army. Do you think you can use an army for more than battle?"

Darrow has joined the In the Water.

Donella quips, "Try the western watch. I hear the Iron Guard doesn't want it."

Cassius grabs up whatever supplies there is to be had. A small hunting bow - easy to use, should do the trick - and then he's getting prepared. As he does, he notices Aksel's arrival. "Aksel!" he calls. "Not going to join?!"

Belladonna has joined the Northern Dunes.

Leta gives Valery a sympathetic look, and a wide smile, "Go, enjoy yourself! I'm afraid I must talk to a man about a hat." she excuses herself with a nod, gesturing behind herself towards the city. There's a brief wave to Aksel as she spots the man waving her way, but it seems the colorful mercenary's on her way away from the event.

Ianthe catches Darrow's glance in her direction and lifts a brow, but never stops smiling. She glances at Joscelin and murmurs with a cheeky grin, "I'll bet you something shiny that I do better than you do."

Valery waves at Leta, with a light, soft smile. She follows her glance to Aksel and she eventually moves closer to the man.

Aislin checked dexterity + survival against difficulty 25, resulting in 28, 3 higher than the difficulty.

Joscelin quirks at Ianthe. "You're on."

Valencia smile at the compliment to her dress and nearly blushes, "I thank you for the compliment. You are very kind. To Rook she replies, looking towards Tobias, "Yes, Lord Tobias is known to me. He is a very kind man, but very fierce. I suppose one must be to lead so many men." The little princess turns her eyes back to Rook. "You were most impressive last night, my lord. Very dashing at the ceremony."

Laughing after Cassius, Belladonna shakes her head at him. "Let us hope," she calls after him, watching him head with the rest of the hunters before she turns back with her rum to those staying behind. She does brighten when she sees Aksel, lifting her glass to him as greeting from across the sand.

Oh, Cassius is here too, Aksel hadn't spotted the man until his name was called out. "Oh, Lord Cassius. Hello." he smiles moving forward. "Ah, what? Hunting? Oh no, not me. That's not really my bag. I'm about as subtle as a bag of bricks. Pretty sure me sneaking on anything would hear me from a couple miles away. I hit things, don't sneak up on them. Let the people who know that shit do it." A wave is offered to Valery before sighting Belladonna from across the way, nodding in return to her.

Aislin checked dexterity + survival against difficulty 15, resulting in 31, 16 higher than the difficulty.

Killian checked dexterity + survival against difficulty 15, resulting in 42, 27 higher than the difficulty.

Dagon checked dexterity + survival against difficulty 15, resulting in 28, 13 higher than the difficulty.

Joscelin checked dexterity + archery against difficulty 15, resulting in 46, 31 higher than the difficulty.

Cassius checked dexterity + survival against difficulty 15, resulting in 30, 15 higher than the difficulty.

Bethany rises, dusting the sand out of her skirts, and she starts back down the beach - closer to the pavilions, and past them. Smiling a bit while doing so on her way back up and out.

Valery leaves, following Leta.

Bethany has left the Quiet Strand.

Molly leaves, following Bethany.

Valery arrives, following Leta.

Donella has joined the Wooden Picnic Table.

"I only took a leaf out of Lady Zaffria's book and attempted to emulated her natural grace with my own practiced regality. You're too kind, but thank you, your highness," Rook says with humbled pleasure upon his face, lips smiling. There's a glance toward the huntsmen and women as they crash down the beach but he turns to present a bowl of grapes toward his companion, the Thraxian princess, a silent offer. "Red is a colour I've never been able to wear without looking as though I'm a maleovent fire-infused man coming to burn down one's house. It must be the way my eyes react with the green, or something. On others, however, it's a flattering hue. Have you ever had the good fortune to feel fireweave from Pyre? It's even warm to the touch. Amazing."

Valery looks from Aksel to the others, once Leta leaves. She slowly walks closer to the pavillions.

Ianthe checked dexterity + archery against difficulty 15, resulting in 38, 23 higher than the difficulty.

The hunters head off to do their thing, and at the party on the beach the music starts. Food and alcohol and mingling, plenty of light conversation. It's not going to be more than a few hours before the hunters start trickling back in with their kills, game taken from the hunters as they return by servants that start the process of getting it ready to go into the fires for cooking.

Dagon shoots a smaller deer, probably one that hasn't fully matured. Oh well, meat is meat. Slinging the corpse over the back of his horse, he rides back to the beaches with the others, depositing it with the servants who are preparing it all for the feast. All that done, he heads towards the table his sister and Rook are seated at, taking a seat with a sigh. "I think there's plenty of meat to go around. Donella, you can have the first choice of the deer I shot, your friend here can have the second. I'll take whatever's left, I don't mind."

Valery nods at Belladona politely and moves closer to Valencia, being one of the few faces she knows.

Dagon has left the In the Water.

Dagon has joined the Wooden Picnic Table.

Donella says, "Burning down the house?" repeats Donella in chorus, as she plucks a small cluster of grapes from the offered bowl. "I have! Amazing what can be done with fiber." When Dagon returns, she trots a few steps on to see the fruits of the hunt... but also to check on her sibling, raking him with her eyes. "I eat like a bird, if I'm to fit into the new suit of clothes. You worked for it, you men must eat first. The liver is good.""

Reese is late to a party, egads so sad. The silk skirt flutters with the wind while the breastplate and helm shine to whatever light catches it, but as she's late, it means the sword-wearing crusader has missed the call of the hunt. "Hello!" she calls out to whomever is at the party area, a hand raised in friendship to show she's not here to conquer anything. Yet.

Slowly, Aksel makes his way on over towards Belladonna, seeing how more than a couple people he seems to know are currently occupied. "Duchess Pravus, quite the thing you set up here." he offers, taking a moment to eye the woman, and then giving a fond smile. "When I heard you setting it up, figured I should make an appearence. You talked about it the last time we spoke."

Rohm the Blackguard, Sarvi arrive, following Hadrian.

Carissa, a Malvici bodyguard, Hadrian, Costas arrive, following Eirene.

Joscelin returns to camp with a few others, servants helping to drag the two very fat does the Guildmaster somehow managed to kill, the woman looking somewhere between perplexed, proud, and ... confused, eyeing her bow like maybe it's magic. Her voice carries as she's talking to someone, "...and they were just watching the one I shot die, and while the other was confused, the buck spooked and took off like a damn coward!" She's flushed and a little excited but again, mostly just surprised she managed to be that successful. "I shot after him but I don't think I so much as nicked him, and he was -spectacular, eight-point beauty..!" Her hands are moving to demonstrate the size and gait of the deer.

"I haven't hunted in ages, I can't even- ...hello! Yes, a boiled femur from each for me as trophy, and you can split tall of it out for the feasting," Joscelin says to the servant that moves to take her kill for dressing and cooking. She looks around for Ianthe, wondering where she lost her-

Valery waves at Reese back, the small woman seeming a bit apart of the rest.

Rook cuts his eyes towards the arrival of Dagon and widens his gaze only a marginal amount, a hand going to the bottle of wine to pour a goblet for the prince. Pressing it across the way, he goes on to say, "You're too kind, your highness." The remark for liver eating causes the gentleman to blanch only mildly, clearing his throat and saying, "I'll stick with the haunch when the cooks are done, I think."

Valencia watches the the party and cannot seem to help but smile mischievously as the party. She turns to Donella and nods "If you will pardon my very silly question, I don't think we've had the pleasure of meeting before. I am the Princess Valencia," she offers with a warm smile.

Ianthe is ambling back toward the beach with a rather impressive string of rabbits. Forget venison. Bunny stew is where it's at. She catches up with Joscelin and offers her sister a wide grin, "Well, well. Look at you. A deer? Really?"

"I'm glad that you could make it," Belladonna tells Aksel warmly, reaching out to give his upper arm a light squeeze. "Let me know if you see anyone you'd like an introduction to." She's keeping an eye out as the hunters return, making sure she's staying where she can see the easiest paths back down to the beach.

Reese continues heading to the party area, but she stops near Valery and takes a look at the younger girl's outfit before she smiles. "That's a lovely gown and outfit, very pretty like a summer sky of that hazy blue. And who doesn't love flowers?" with a wink.

Joscelin grins at Ianthe. "Two! TWO does! Fat as cows!" Joscelin drops like, twenty years and flails her hands.

While in no way in any way here in a supervisory or professional capacity, Felix isn't stopped from directing work and helping to move the barrels himself. He towers over most and is clearly built for this sort of work. This of course ends with his perfectly-clean self becoming smeared here and there with coal used for the firepits. So by the time his date gets back, the weapon smith is mildly sweaty and smeared underneath his jaw with black. Joscelin's news about her kills has him grinning broadly at the woman. "Well done! I s'pose you'll be feedin' an entire village apart from tonight's festivities!"

Valery almost blushes at the praise. "Thank you..." She smiles softly, a light smile that reaches her eyes more than her lips. "It was a present."

On the hunt, Cassius heads away from the beach, presumably sticking with Aislin and Killian and whomever else for a bit. The big knight has a small hunting bow as he works along the beach.

"If that's what you want, Donella, it's yours, but I wouldn't worry about eating so little tonight. It's a feast!" Dagon says, grinning. His gaze shifts over to Rook and Valencia and he nods at the Princess, but addresses Rook. "Oh, I'm not sure that kind is a word that describes anyone of House Thrax. Or maybe it was kind and generous used both at once. I can't quite remember. No matter, you arrived with my sister so it's the least I can do to make sure that her companion for the evening is seen to."

Fashionably late, the Malvicis and their retainer make their way to the beach. Black and red, leather and wool and silk, the trio seem to be a bit confused and a bit cold. This isn't anything like the warm coastal beaches of Southport. They seem to be seeking both fire and alcohol, in either order.

Shortly after Joscelin returns to the camp, a rather shamefaced Killian makes his way back as well. He looks a little the worse for wear, his clothes just a bit rumpled, but dragging a massive eight point buck behind. It causes a bit of a stir when the servants who move to dress the creature notice that it's not got any visible wounds other than a slight arrow nick on its flank. When pressured, the young knight sighs.. "I told you all I was terrible at hunting..I was just walking through looking to see if there was a place I might make a rabbit snare so I wasn't totally without use, when this beast came barrelling through the undergrowth. I was in his way I guess, because he charged..and well..there was a tree behind me.." he explains with a sort of embarassed shrug.

"Ah, I'm just a soldier. I know a few people here. Like I knew Lady Aislin from my youth in Stonedeep." he chuckles a little. "Very young. I'm pretty sure I made an ass out of myself a couple of times. Umm...Lord Cassius and Princess Valencia too. But mostly, I'm just happy to be here. Infact, looking at all this, makes me want to try and set something." A shrug. "Or at the very least, something like it. Debating it."

"Oh ho!" replies Reese with a wry grin spreading as she notes the smile and the explanation from Valery. "An anonymous suitor seeking out your favor? Did they send it with a lovely poem about knights clashing against armies of darkness, their words like a dancer's feet with the waltz?" she asks, a sigh given at the pretty idea. "They must know you pretty well, it looks lovely on your form. Have we missed the hunt?" she asks the girl, looking around a moment.

"Not even a little tiny bite?" Donella queries Rook, with great big blue eyes and the sort of expression that suggests under different circumstances, she might be chasing him round the picnic table with said bite on her fork. "Oh, we did once, your highness," she says to Valencia. "Donella Thrax. That one, there, with the butt-chin is my brother, Prince Dagon. We've another sibling, but she's probably engaged in her studies, this tme of day."

Joscelin hears something and turns to look at Killian, and laughs! Pointing, she says, "That's the coward!" She means the buck. "He did... did he..." she starts to ask of Killian, and just can't stop laughing. "It counts! The stag-crown is yours!" she cackles, moving to shake the hand of the man she doesn't know. "You didn't happen to find my arrow, did you? Things are expensive-"

Valery shakes her head, quickly, almost blushing. "No! Not at all, no... It was Princess Natalia... She heard I was looking for new clothes and she sent me this..." She shakes her head again blushing maybe more as she starts fidgeting with her necklace. "The gown and the slippers..."

Hadrian lofts both eyebrows, stage-whispering to Eirene, "Do they have wine, you think?"

"Get yourself something to drink, some food," Bella tells Aksel, patting his arm again as she starts to turn. "Enjoy yourself. I'll be around, if you need me." When the little blonde spots the other Ducal contingent she actually looks surprised for a moment, then lifts her current glass of rum to wave it in Hadrian's direction. "Duke Malvici!" She's not going to holler for the rest of the group, but she does start across the sand to meet them.

"Dutiful, then," Rook provides for Dagon with a short laugh. "Either way, may I just say that your armour is of master crafstmenship." Donella's pressing on the matter of liver causes him to shake his head, almost vehemently. "Nope, nope, nope!" There's a chesire smile, wide and toothy then, revealing his amusement for his own moment of jest. There's a long look shared with Donella, eyes narrowing, "And if liver finds its way onto my plate I might have to pass it along, as it'll all be contaminated, then I'll starve to death."

Reese says "Princess Natalia is an -amazing- fashionista. Everything she does with clothes simply is stunning. I should have known it was her! But....perhaps she was inspired by her own love story with her betrothed." taking a glance around. "It's so exciting about her wedding, I've heard a few things. Ah-maze-ing."

Aislin eventually returns to the camp, with a decent pile of fish. Those who traveled back with her will know the pile originally started a bit larger, but a certain black-plumed falcon stole the topmost fish. (Indeed, Nyx has taken up a perch near the pavilion, gleefully tearing chunks off of part of Aislin's catch.) The remaining fish are placed with the rest of the hunting results, though she pauses as she sees the enormous stag. "Gods and spirits, who went after /that/ monster?"

The young Killian just blushes all the more at the questions, "Ahh...a bow. That would have been a good thing to take," he muses, evidently having not even taken something to hunt with. He shakes his head then, "my apologies, but I found nothing..to be honest I was just trying to figure out what had happened and then drag this beast out of the woods. Really if you shot at him you ought to get the credit.." He shakes his head ruefully, "I think I should ask cousin Harlan for a few pointers on hunting.." he muses.

Eirene's about to head to the bar when Belladonna calls out to Hadrian. "Well, I can go check while you say hello to the pretty girl," his aunt says with a wink, patting his arm. "Costas, want to come scout the drinks?" But she lowers her voice and asks Hadrian, "Or do you want someone to stay with you so you're not stuck alone with gods knows how many faces I don't even fucking recognize?"

Valencia smiles at Donella, "I am so sorry. I'm newly back to the city and I am rather overwhelmed by introductions. You are so gracious. I am glad to see you again." Her eyes turn to Dagon and smiles, "I have had the pleasure of meeting the Prince before, though always happy to be in his company again. She offers Dagon a warm nod, her dark eyes smiling.

From his position respectfully behind and aside the pair of Malvicis, Costas lets slip a low grunt of amusement at the jape from Duke Hadrian. Hands clasped at his back, he peers out from his deep hood, counting heads, marking faces. Pausing longer on some than others, but his demeanor reticent and illegible throughout.

Valery tilts her head, curiously. "Her wedding?" She frowns a small bit. "I'm... I'm sorry, I'm not... I don't know much about the news and all... I just arrived a few weeks ago..." She passes her free hand through her short hair, kinda nervously, looking around from time to time. Her other hand keeps playing with her necklace.

Darrow checked dexterity + survival against difficulty 15, resulting in 28, 13 higher than the difficulty.

Cassius returns along with Aislin. The Nightgold knight carries a small hunting bow in one hand, then two plump ducks in the other hand. A fine enough catch, it would seem, for Cassius looks satisfied. Of course, once he returns, before he can addresses anything else, he's staring at Killian, and Killian's catch.

Hadrian lowers his head a little, "The latter would be appreciated after you secure the booze, dearest Aunt; priorities, you know," he says conspiratorially with a wink. Then it's cheerfulness, lifting a gloved hand and a smiling call in return, "Oh, that's me!" His arms open slightly, "Hello, hello! Apologies for the lateness, but we've come to share in your spoils now that the work is done!"

Joscelin points to Killian. "No, it was your neck that was on the line, if anything I owe you an apology," she laughs, and claps the man on the shoulder before moving back to join Ianthe and Felix. "Credit is yours, sir."

"Butt-chin? This is how I am thanked for my valiant attempt at putting food on the table? I am wounded, sister. Wounded." Dagon lifts a hand to his chest, as if stabbed by some sharp instrument. Smiling and rolling his eyes at her, he moves onto the matter of organs. "The liver's not so bad. Eating the heart of some animals can be pretty good too. Cutting it up into these small little pieces and grilling it can come out pretty nicely." Looking to Valencia, he returns her nod and smiles faintly. "You are too kind, your highness."

Joscelin has left the In the Water.

Killian has left the In the Water.

"I told you," Aislin remarks dryly, glancing over at Cassius. "Killian has a way of coming out on top, even when he has absolutely no rational reason to do so."

Aislin has left the In the Water.

Taking Bella's advice, Aksel goes in search for food and/or drink. He's not hunting, oh hell no, he'd make a spectacle of himself. Which does put him in the same route as Eirene and Costas. He pauses a moment, but then perhaps gathers up the gumption to go say hello. "Lady Eirene, hey."

Aislin spots Aksel in the crowd, now that she's returned from the hunt, and offers the Nightgold Sword a nod in greeting as he moves past.

Cassius has left the In the Water.

"Fine," Donella says with a joking huff. "But if you don't clear your trencher, there shall be no dessert." She settles herself upon the bench and tells Valencia, "That any of us are able to remember anyone is a marvel to me, between the crush of people and the way drink tends to flow. Don't worry about it. I look forward to knowing you better." She pops a grape between her teeth, catching snatches of conversation that revolves the noble butt-chin and his betrothed. Another grape, and thoughtful chewing ensue. "Right here?" she questions Dagon as to the site of his wounding, tapping her chin with a fingertip.

There's a warm smile for Eirene and Costas before Bella steps in to kiss the air just off of each of Hadrian's cheeks. "I'm glad that you could make it," she says. "I think there are still a few out, if you wish to join them, but from what I've seen it looks like there will be plenty as it is. We picked a good day for a hunt, I think."

"Why, Prince Dagon of course." says Reese to the girl, and while she's talking her eyes spy someone else so she grins. "It's just one of the most interesting matches and marriages probably in a very long time. I heard that there was a group of bards outside Grayson Manor, singing a tale of how she's his star to guide him across the dark unknown waters which is the future. So romantic!" she says, stressing the last part as she touches her breastplate. "I'm still looking for a prince who needs rescuing, so if you hear of any in far off towers, send a message." with a wink of playfulness to Valery. "Come, lets go to the party area. I'm thirst and I bet there's someone already observing from afar how beautiful you look in that gown, they're just too shy to say anything. Can't keep them waiting, can we?"

Darrow has left the In the Water.

Felix gathers any remaining arrows that might be about in his immediate vicinity and sets them on the table before moving away from it entirely. This is all conducted very discreetly and not made to look like work at all. Of course, he's just enjoying himself and not making sure no one draws blood on askew arrows. Silver grey eyes cast out over the party of hunters and others, squinting slightly to study the goings-on. As Joscelin moves in his direction, the smith grins at her brightly and starts walking to meet her halfway.

Rook engages in a quiet conversation with Valencia while the siblings provide their retort across the bench, the grapes all about out by the time he reaches for them. Drawing his hands back, he sets them in his lap and looks for the meat, onto to see it be presented to the table after it has finally been roasted upon the spits. "Ah, that looks amazing!"

"Oh..." Valery says, at Reese's explanation. She doesn't seem less confused, and she murmurs. "I don't even know who he is..." She nods, though, and starts following her to the party area, shaking a bit her head at her last words.

Leaving the water at this point is Tobias... who is carrying two deer on his shoulders and dragging another behind him with a harness... and somehow, he makes it look effortless. "Well, that was fun." He comment as he gets within hearshot of the party, moving to drop off his bounty to the staff.

As the greetings begin Costas drifts closer, standing at hand a pace from Eirene. He continues to scan the crowd, pausing for moment to nod specifically to the Duchess Belladonna as she greets them. Thereafter he tilts fractionally aside, making a low comment to Eirene, something gestured to beneath the gloom cast by his cloak.

Ianthe eyes the crowd warily as she drops off her offering to the night's entertainments and then sets about carefully returning her bow and stripping off her gloves, covered rather unflatteringly in a thin layer of gore. She glances over at Joscelin as she approaches Felix, a slightly wistful expression on her face, before she glances away. Just in case they start kissing or something. Instead, she starts to hunt for something to drink.

A messenger arrives, delivering a message to Cassius before departing.

Killian sighs as he hears the commentary from Aislin, shaking his head. "I assure you, it is entirely an accident of fortune..not a testament to some skill that went unremarked," he says to the pair. "The lady there," he motions towards Joscelin, "spooked the buck when she claimed the two does.. I must have been near enough to her because the beast charged me as it fled..and well..trees are unforgiving, as you well know."

Aislin just gestures towards Killian, as if silently emphasizing to Cassius what she means; he killed the /stag/ with a /tree/. But then the white-haired Ashford happens to overhear Reese's comment, and can't help but make a soft snort of amusement. "There's a glut of princes in the Compact," she remarks dryly, turning towards Reese and Valery. "I'm sure at least /one/ of them out there needs rescuing."

Eirene nods cheerfully to Belladonna as the woman greets their party. "Duchess Pravus," she says, giving a bit of a grin. Especially after seeing what it is Costas imparts to her. "I'm going to get drinks, anything you recommend?" Aksel is given a quick nod of greeting but there's alcohol to be addressed first. "Especially with the kind of game we have going tonight," she says, addressing the lady hostess once more.

Grinning, Joscelin approaches Felix and makes a big show of pointing the her haul as the servants drag it off. "Look. Look at -that-. Damn streak of luck out here-" she catches Killian addressing her and waves, laughing. "-and it wasn't just me that benefited. Look! Me! Food!" She snickers, punch-drunk and giggly.

"It builds character." Dagon comments to his sister. There's a brief moment where something seems to give him some pause. Whatever it is, he sighs and shakes his head. He leans to the side and murmurs something in Donella's ear, then straightens, nodding to Rook. "It does all smell good, I agree. Hopefully it'll be finished soon."

Darrow returns to the tents, dropping his bag off where the rest of the hunters left their snares. He walks off, to return his bow and quiver, nodding pleasantly at Felix as he nears the weapon. In his wake, the more adventurous of the crabs, snipping its pincers, tries to make a break for it, a servant dueling it with a serving spoon towards a waiting pot. "Master Meadson, good evening." He looks over Joscelin's catch, and nods in appreciation. "Well done," he says to her, though as ever with his flat and serious tone.

Eirene has joined the Northern Dunes.

Costas has joined the Northern Dunes.

Cassius has joined the Northern Dunes.

Hadrian returns each air-kiss in kind and dutifully, before he lifts a hand and shakes his head in polite refusal, "Oh, I can hardly hunt! I think I will stick to socializing -I did meet one of yours, Duchess. A... Lianne, was it? Fascinating woman," he compliments, while he moves to guide her and himself to the gathering.

Valery , at Aislin's comment, looks around, almost worriedly, as if she would find that prince in need of rescue there.

Cassius unloads the ducks to the servants, so they might be prepared. Freed from them, he takes a message that seems to have arrived while he was out for the hunt. Seal broken, letter opened, the man stares at it for a moment, then just shakes his head. He looks back up to Aislin, and just gives a grunt. That's what he thinks of Aislin's luck. He finally heads over to where he can return to Belladonna. "Seems I will eat tonight," he says, to the duchess. He then looks aside, to Costas. "Captain Voducce," he grumbles to the man, and offers a nod.

Valencia seems to be enjoying the quietly conversation with the dashing Lord Rook. She smiles gratefully at Princess Donella and nods, "I would be delighted for us to become better acquainted. Please, let's." The little princess takes a grape from the platter, then turns to scan the crowd. She gives a sweet smile to Valery before turn to study the crowd a little more. Something seems to make her smile and she turns back to her companions at the table.

Aislin is greeted with a smile and a wave from Aksel. Fancy seeing her here. But it's hunting, so it should've been a little obvious. But that done, he goes in search for drinks.

Reese walks with Valery towards the party, and hearing Aislin she just laughs in good spirits as she looks over the guests and returning hunters. "True, but it all has to go to a perfect plan. You can't just rescue anybody, right? I can imagine we'll be off fighting some terrible army, he gets wounded and captured by some creature or warlord, I chop through the guards and defeat the mythical guardian in a high tower, carrying my prince back with wagons of treasure to pass out to the people when we enter the Compact. You know, that story. Mmm, I love that outfit. Who made it?" she asks lady Aislin, pointing towards the trousers and corset. "That cuff is beautiful."

Even with his leathers and taking his time, Tobias is still sweating just a bit from the exertion. He takes in the gathering, before he moves casually over to the table with Rook and Velencia. "Next time, we're bringing more horses." Tobias quips as he reaches for wine, taking a generous gulp.

Felix hooks an arm into Joscelin's and starts walking back over towards Ianthe. "I saw that. It looks almost as if yer ready to start yer own tannery as well." he says with a nod of his head to punctuate. As Darrow approaches and greets him and Joscelin, the weaponsmith grins broadly his way. "Lord Darkwater," he greets in return. "Good eve to you as well. Perfect for a hunt, I'd say. How did ye make out?"

"If you ask for Setarco gold, they'll bring it to you; there's bottles being kept on hand," Belladonna answers Eirene with a smile. When she spies Cassius returning she brightens, stepping to take his arm as he closes the distance, and then she's turning to walk with him as Hadrian starts for the pavillions. "Lady Lianne is lovely, yes," she agrees. "Have you met Lord Cassius Nightgold? Lord Cassius, this is Duke Hadrian Malvici, and Lady Eirene Malvici," she gestures; given the man greeted Costas by name, she doesn't offer an introduction there. "It's good to see you," she does offer in Costas's direction.

"I used to dream of that story myself, when I was younger. Finding a prince who I could travel the world with, having adventures. The two of us inseparable." Aislin shakes her head, seemingly amused by Valery's reaction to the tale of princes. Then she adds, in a deliberately dramatic tone of regret, "But I realized most princes aren't up the challenge, and resigned myself to traveling alone." Reese's question of the outfit earns a slightly bemused look. "You know, I don't honestly remember? I think I got this particular set up in the north, when my last set of adventuring gear was too far gone. The shirt's new, though; my last one had undead entrails on it." Sometimes, laundry just isn't worth it, and you've got to burn things to cleanse them. "The cuff, though... there's a story behind that one."

Rook looks upward toward Tobias and lifts a hand in easy greeting, no words needed as he recognises the Telmar lord. "More horses, my lord? I do hope you're not indicating we should have joined you on the hunt. Someone would die if I had to take up a boar spear or bow and it wouldn't be the intended game. I'm best equipped with a sword and that's not saying much, either." It's just the easiest to hold, probably.

Costas pulls his eyes from his silent observation of Belladonna and the Malvici nobles as he is addressed by Cassius. Finding some variety of manners, he finally pushes back the dark hood of his cloak from off his close-shaved head. "Lord Cassius." he replies after a pair of blinks from those still stormblue eyes, then follows with a nod, allowing the ghost of a smile to break on his lips for a moment, before his on-duty demeanor returns, reticent and unreadable.

Valencia glances up at the noble Lord Tobias and nods to him as he approaches. "Horses? how lovely! Though I hope you're not suggestion we eat them," she teases lightly. "How did you hunt go, my lord? Were you a success?

"Rabbit is far superior to venison. I'm just stating a fact." Ianthe grins at Felix as he approaches with Josceline and glances at Darrow when she hears the name Darkwater. A grin is given to Darrow as she pushes her unruly hair out of her face, "Well met. Any relation to Count Maximilian Darkwater?"

"Ah, the gold. Perfect." If there is one thing Lady Eirene is famed for, it's her love of drink. Likely right behind her infamy of speaking in less than elegant phrases. The medic in her black and red duelling armors pauses and asks, "A glass for all of us then? Fuck, I'll have a bottle or two brung around make life easier." She nods to Costas to stay with the duke and starts off for the bar. A hand is raised in greeting to the familiar faces on the beach, Aislin and Joscelin and Felix.

Aislin turns from her conversation to raise a hand at Eirene in return, adding a respectful nod in Hadrian's direction. She doesn't yet turn from her existing conversation, however.

For lack of a better plan at the moment, Killian follows along after Aislin, so he smiles warmly to Reese and Valery as Aislin engages wtih them. "Dinner smells like it's going to be amazing," he observes in passing as he glances towards where the cooking is occurring.

The Guildmaster looks to Darrow and smiles. He's familiar; she recalls meeting him briefly in Felix's shop. She smiles at the man. "My thanks, I'm pretty surprised and proud-" she looks to Felix of a sudden, and moves off really quickly to tell the servants to give her the hides.

Returning, she catches Ianthe's declaration of rabbits verses venison and scoffs. "Sore loser," she teases her sister, then pulls the pendant from her own head and drapes it around her sister's neck, kissing her cheek. "You win on that logic."

Darrow replies to Felix, gesturing back at the table as he drops the hunting gear at another. "Passingly well." He gives a cursory look over Joscelin, and then asks the guildmaster, "A tannery? This is something I am in high need of." A gesture at his salt-rimed leathers, now damp from his wade out into the tidepools. "Leather tends to get it's use taken out of by me." To the other companion, Ianthe, he nods singularly, and replies in his cool, though not hostile tone. "The Count is my cousin, by my late uncle," the Knight of Sorrow states to her. "Darrow of House Darkwater."

Valery looks at Aislin and Reese curiously as they tell their tales about princes and travels. She moves in place, making her anklet tinkle, and nods lightly at Killian as he approaches.

"This delightful and amazing person is the Lady Aislin Ashford. I can imagine any pair of boots she wears could tell amazing stories of their own. And this lovely girl is....you know, I didn't ever catch your name." says Reese, introducing Valery and Aislin. "I want to hear that story about the cuff, but you've gone and made me instantly curious about what you encountered." The crystal blue eyes look over to Killian, a smile flashes warmly to him before looking at the two women. "I'm so disappointed I was late to the hunt, I was really looking forward to that! Back to Prince Hunting I go."

Cassius offers a tight smile to Belladonna, as she stands and takes his arm once more. "Two ducks," he informs her, before his attention is back over. He nods to Lady Eirene, as she departs, then fixes his eyes on Hadrian. "Duke," he says. "Nice to meet you," he man grumbles out, not seeming too terribly pleased to be here, and meeting people. That smile to Bella, then, is either a forced thing, or a rare moment of expression from the surly kight. Cassius turns his eyes back to Costas. "Forgive me, Captain... do you work for the Malvici?"

"I managed to down three deer, so I'd call that a success." Tobias drifts his eyes over to the staff dressing down the kills, and indicates three of them with a hand. "I'm not a tracker, but I can shoot with a bow well enough." Then He looks back to Rook and Velencia. "Horses for dragging back the kills. I didn't think I'd get so many ,so I had to haul them myself."

Valery says, softly, fidgeting with her necklace. "Valery... My name is Valery."

Donella rises from her place at the benches, offers a smile to her escort for the evening and excuses herself to loosen and remove her footwear, and while the smell of meat cooking hangs in the air, she goes about wandering down to the rocky shoreline and the water's edge with a stray broken arrow used to bun her hair.

Costas snaps off a smart nod to Eirene, closing a bit of distance between he and the Duke to hover watchfully at the periphery. When he is addressed by Cassius again there is a brief crease on his brow, quickly mastered. Shifting his weight in the sand, he turns to face the man, giving him his full attention. "I have that honor, aye. The Lady General took my Oath in the Winter season, and I serve the House as a blade in service."

"My," Rook says to Tobias, "I suppose -that's- what you could use an army for other than battle," he shares then with Valencia in a short laugh. "Carrying all the deer you hunt." There's a gleam in his eye as he leans to pour himself another drink, his attention turning toward Donella as she climbs up and wanders down to the water's edge. Observing the princess in her moment of quiet retreat leaves a smile across his lips, pianist's fingers plucking and pulling apart a clementine.

Ianthe offers a nod to Darrow, "My name is Ianthe Artusio. I help the Count with his trading business. Pleased to meet you." The small woman dips her head a bit before the placing of a necklace over her head distracts her. She glances at the mirror with a little laugh and looks at Joscelin, "I am not a sore loser." As if to emphasize the point, she sticks her tongue out at the jeweler. Not a sore loser at all.

"Rabbit? Dun' think I've ever actually had it," Felix admits to Ianthe with a slightly more sheepish tone and a lift of his shoulders. "I'll take yer word for it. How've ye been, Ianthe? I'd been wonderin' where ya'd gotten off to." He flashes a smile at her before turning to Joscelin again. "Ya did good! It'll definitely feed the party twelve times over, likely." He laughs loudly then before once more looking to Darrow with mirth still shining in his eyes. "Ah! Ye may want to talk t' Kenemir. He's the one that owns that leather shop o'er by mine."

Aislin offers a polite half-nod to Valery. "Well, Valery. Welcome to Arx." Turning back to Reese, Aislin adds, "I'm far from the only one who could explain that story; a great many of us fought two of the undead out in the Gray Forest, not long ago. I made the tactical error of attacking from below; it was effective, but the results weren't... entirely ideal." She shakes her head with remembered distaste, adding, "The details are probably /not/ suitable dinner discussion."

Darrow , for his part, doesn't look necessarily pleased by anything, ever. He does offer a return nod to Ianthe, though. "And I help him with his more bloody business. I trust we have done well in ensuring safe seas across the Darkwater Reach."

Eirene has a quiet conversation with the barkeep before returning with a servant bearing a tray of glasses and a pair of bottles of the 'good stuff' Duchess Pravus mentioned. She has the glasses filled for their quintet and she offers a toast. "To success- hunting and anything else we can think of, eh?" The dark haired woman smirks a little, per her habit.

Valery murmurs a soft "Thank you" to Aislin. Her attention is shared between the small group and the rest of the people and the beach, her eyes getting lost on the water from time to time.

Valencia looks rather impressed by Lord Tobias' great success. "Well, my lord, it would seem you have won the day. I'm impressed, though not surprised in the least. Well done, sir." Valencia's eyes follow the princess as the departs their company. Setting her glass aside, she shifts slightly, adjusting her red skirts, the turning to liberate another sweet grape from the platter at the table. "The water looks pretty today," she mused quietly, eyes glancing the horizon for any ships nearby.

Hadrian loves meeting people, in contrast to Cassius, and offers the man a dazzling grin, "A pleasure," he provides in reply. A nod is offered to Eirene in confirmation for his own drink, "A lot of faces."

With his pale skin and white hair, Killian looks like he could pass for Aislin's sibling, but he flashes a smile to Reese and Valery and introduces himself, "Lord Killian Ashford, a pleasure to make your acquaintances ladies.. My cousin here insisted I tag along..something about not getting out and meeting people enough.." he shifts as a huge snowy owl swoops down from the sky and lands upon his shoulder, a mouses tail still dangling from her beak as she finishes her own dinner.

"Lovely," is Belladonna's answer to what Cassius brought back. "Duck does sound good." His displeasure at the introductions has her chuckling softly, her expression clearly amused for the man's surliness. She does give him a curious look when he questions Costas, a smile offered that way when the Captain replies. "Oh, thank you," she says for Eirene and the glasses, finishing off what's in her glass before she reaches for a glass of the gold, lifting it to the others. "To success," she echoes, and then she's nodding to Hadrian. "There are a number of people here that even I do not recognize; it's wonderful."

Donella bunches up her skirts to tie upon her hip, and wades with the cold water licking upon her ankle and calf until she can hoist her up upon a formation of rocks. From there she can look east to the curve of the horizon as the sun begins its western descent.

"Not suitable? Do you mean because we'd be talking and letting our food get cold?" replies Reese to Aislin with fascination written on her pretty face. "Because I don't have to eat, we could just have plates set and then listen." as if that's a polite option. Looking to Valery she says "Pretty name. I'm sure there's a man whose heart just went flitter patter on hearing the name of the rose of his heart. Ahhh, sweet Valery, hair like the dark forest's does and just as elusive. Be mindful you don't let them catch you too quickly! It's all about the chase, no hunter talks about the end result too much, it's all about the entire chase. Otherwise we'd call it "Meal" instead of "Hunt"." as if that makes sense. The big bird amazes Reese as it flutters. "Was there a message I didn't hear about that we need bird companions? I don't have one, but I'll find one."

The owl landing on Killian's shoulder makes Valery turn her head to him again. She stares at the animal for a moment, almost in awe. "Oh... that's... beautiful..." She glances Reese, at her words, and she blushes a bit more, tugging a bit her sapphires.

"Well enough. I have yet to give a full report to the Count, but I hope to meet with him soon." Ianthe smiles again, a laugh held within her dark eyes. Which soon turn to Felix, "I was sent to oversee a trade route directly. I've spent the past few weeks on a ship. It was -lovely-. I almost stole the damned thing so that we wouldn't have to return, but then the Count would probably accuse me of piracy and then I'd be hung or something. I fancy being alive and all that."

Rook pops a segment of the fruit in his mouth and chews idly, turning his head toward the large man in his retinue. "Master Quiet, if you'd be an absolute champ, could you run along and find one of the errand boys and send for a carriage to meet us at Seawatch Gate?" With that request, he slowly extracts himself from the bench and lays a hand as if to touch base. "Your highnesses, my lord," he tells the company he's kept, "do enjoy the rest of your evening, won't you." Passing the cook's, he has them package up a portion of the meat before he wanders down towards the shore, toeing the line before the waves reach him. There's a call to the princess there, a jovial wave, a brief interruption to her sanctuary before he turns to cut up toward the high dunes and back toward the road.

Cassius gives a nod to Costas, as the question is answered. His attention shifts to Hardian, and there's another nod. Eirene returns, and the Nightgold knight takes a glass of wine without issue. "To success," Cassius says, as he lifts the glass. "In the hunt and in the celebration," he says. Cassius tags a swig of wine, then leans aside, murmuring quietly to Belladonna. If it's rude to whisper in front of company, no one told Cassius.

Belladonna's attention is entirely caught by Donella as the woman wades into the water, and she watches that way.

Costas reaches out from beneath his cloak, the motion parting it enough to reveal his stance; loose but speaking of halted motion, off hand laid comfortably at the end of an antique wooden scabbard carved from driftwood, thumb perched on the stylized crossguard which reflects the firelight in dull crimson. He takes one of the offered glasses, lifts it in salute, but leaves the words to the nobles.

Joscelin agrees with Felix and says to Darrow, "My crafters are all great and their expertise varies in style but of the same caliber. Kenemir is quite excellent, Eithne is also very, very skilled though I think she prefers metal to leathers," the Guildmaster explains, then glances at Ianthe with an odd expression.

As of on cue, a messenger arrives from Arx, going right for Tobias. Taking and reading the missive, Tobias frowns, before he stands and moves to the end of the table, giving a bow to all present. "Looks like I have a situation that needs my attention, and it can't wait for my Captain to work out. A pleasure to spend time with you all." Then Tobias gives Valencia a charming grin. "And I look forward to that dinner." A moment later, Tobias jogs off, back to Arx.

Tobias has left the In the Water.

Donella recovers her things after dashing off from the water for that offered ride, with a wave to all an sundry.

Rook has left the Wooden Picnic Table.

Donella has left the Wooden Picnic Table.

Quiet, the Grayward champion, Donella leave, following Rook.

As if summoned by mention of 'bird companions' -- or, in this case, is that com-pain-in-the-ass-ion? -- Nyx, having finished her fish, takes wing over towards Aislin. Upon drawing near, the falcon spots someone new and attempts to land on Reese instead. Hello, newcomer, perhaps you can be conned into feeding a glorious and clearly-deserving falcon.

"Very few people seem to have much of an appetite after hearing about how it's possible to end up wearing zombie entrails as a hat," Aislin remarks to Reese. She glances over at Valery, as if suspecting she might be one of those who doesn't. And then, whatever else she was about to say, a black-winged falcon drops down and attepts to perch on her conversational partner... and Aislin just covers her face. Dammit, Nyx.

Belladonna's expression sparks with mischevious amusement when Cassius speaks quietly to her, and she laughs before turning her head to answer him softly. She shakes her head, then glances to the others standing nearby. "Does anyone see anyone they'd like an introduction to?"

Valencia glances to Dagon and smiles. "Your pardon, sir," she smiles sweetly and departs the table and begins making her way through the crowd.

Valencia has left the Wooden Picnic Table.

Rohm the Blackguard have been dismissed.

Sarvi have been dismissed.

Aislin may be right about Valery. Or not. The small woman doesn't really react to the mention of the zombie entrails, but, to be fair, she seems too interested on the owl. And the falcon, once it arrives, though she steps lightly back, as afraid it would decide to land on her instead if the attempt with Reese fails.

It's about that time; food starts coming from the fires to the tables, the highlight of the night finally beginning. Food!

Eirene mutters to Hadrian, "The woman over there, looking totally embarassed, is Lady Aislin in charge of the Explorers guild. Prince Dagon Thrax isn't bad to know; very civil from the shit I hear. Fuck all if I know much anyone else here," she says over the top of her wine.

Hadrian has joined the Northern Dunes.

There's a grin from Killian as Nyx appears, "We do seem to have a thing for birds.." he admits, "especially ones who like to remind us they are only pretending to do as we tell them.. As to the other, well, it is a rather unique fashion statement Aislin..and probably not likely to catch on." He reaches up one arm, and the owl steps onto his forearm, which the young Knight holds out. "This is Whisper.." he says by way of introductions to Valery since she seems so interested in the bird, his other hand petting the owl gently. "I believe she and Nyx are probably bad influences upon one another.."

Felix grins brilliantly at Ianthe and nods to her. Animated as ever while he speaks, the smith regards Ianthe. "Ah! Sounds like a lucrative bit of business. Coin flowin' in is good for everyone." It dawns on him suddenly that he doesn't have a drink in hand and turns about to look for them before once again looking to Joscelin as she speaks up. "Don't believe I've met Eithne. Aye, though." Again his eyes turn to Darrow. "I don't make armor meself. There's another bloke about that does metal, but far as I know Kenemir's the one ye go to fer leather."

Moving gracefully through the crowd with a soft rustle of red skill, the Princess Valencia approaches Valery and her companions with a bright smile. "Are you having fun? I'm so glad you decided to come. Where did Leta go?" she asks looking about. The little princes nods to the others present, taking a moment to admire the snowy owl on Killian's shoulder. "It's beautiful. Does it have a name, sir?" she asks a little awstruck.

"Zombie...entrails as a ...hat?" replies Reese slowly, more and more amazed and interested at the story from Aislin that she's dropping hints at. Her body language even shows that she's leaning in ever slightly. But then there's a flutter of feathers and dark shapes, and that gets Reese to instinctively drop a hand to her sword until she realizes that it's -another- bird. A squeal of delight lifts from Reese's lips as she peers at the eyes of the bird, seeing her reflection. "Gloria give me a thousand armies to fight, isn't he -adorable-!" she says, looking at Nyx. Looking over at Aislin, she has the biggest grin on her face like she got all the presents of the city. Her lips open as she gestures with a finger, as if Aislin and Co can't see the bird on her shoulder.

Darrow states to Felix, stoic. "Aye. I'll search the man out, then. And we've still got to schedule a time to air the sails of my tale, as you had wanted it."

One of the comments from Eirene catches Costas' ear, and his eyes slowly sweep over the beach, another round of counting faces. A subtle shift of his grip on the scabbard sets lightly swinging the ornament hanging from the weapon's pommel: a stylized wrought-iron chain with a manacle at the end, pried open and bent. Silently, he takes another long pull from the wine.

"Are you asking me if I want to meet anyone else?" Cassius asks Belladonna, incredulous, and not seeming to feel the need to put on airs. Not while the next noble over - Eirene - is swearing like a sailor. He then gives a grunt, and a shake of his head. It's followed with another whisper.

Valery smiles softly, the warmth more in her eyes than in her lips. "Whisper is a very beautiful name..." She nods at Valencia and raises a shoulder. "She went back to the town... Too many people and something about a hat." She takes a deep breath. "I probably should go back too..." She moves again, the aklet tinkling more and more often. At Reese's antics she almost chuckles. Almost.

"Nyx is a bad influence on everything," Aislin remarks replies to Killian, through the hand still covering her face. After a moment, she repeats, "/Everything/." After a moment, however, Aislin's attention turns from her mischievous imp of a falcon back to Reese herself. "As I said, it's a bit of a story."

Lady Lianne Pravus is quite decidedly late to the festivities, but she does eventually make her way down to the shore just as the crowd starts thinning. And, more importantly, just as the food is being served. The slight creature seems in no rush despite her tardiness, taking time with her slow approach to observe the others, to pick out points of interest before committing to any particular direction.

Ianthe offers a bright smile to Joscelin's look and even reaches out to boop her sister on the nose, as if in some private joke. She glances at Felix and nods as well, "I was pleased to get back out on the water. And yes, the coin is certainly flowing. So, any of you know where the liquor is? The silk always have the good stuff at these things."

Belladonna talks quietly to those nearby, full of amusement. She leans to say something quietly to Cassius, whose arm she is holding, and then when she spots Lianne she's lifting her glass that way in greeting.

Lianne has joined the Northern Dunes.

Felix nods his head to Darrow at that and smiles. "I'd a few armaments commissioned this past few weeks needin' finished that had me swamped. How's sometime this week sound?" His brows furrow and he gives the Knight of Sorrow an inquisitive look. Looking to Ianthe again, he widens his eyes a bit. "I've no idea. I think they bring it to ya, but I've no idea who to flag down fer the drinks."

"Lady Aislin, you just have to get a cloak with the leather crafted so it looks like it's a giant cloak of feathers that matches this incredibly amazing, smart and pretty bird companion of yours. Or a brooch of silver that is bejeweled like his feathers. Ahh, I'll have to tell Princess Natalia, she'll know for sure how something like that ought to look like." says Reese to the Ashford ranger. Reese though is aware enough that over a shoulder she glances back to Valery. "Is our pretty doe heading back to her forests of buildings and the streets that are the forest's streams to hide from the hunters? No no, surely you want to stay, we haven't even started drinking and reveling in the untold tales!"

The owl upon Killians arm seems quite disinterested in everything, loftily ignoring those around her and the obvious marvel that she is. Killian just smiles then and looks towards Valencia, "Her name is Whisper..she's rather the quiet sort after all," he explains to Valencia as he moves the arm closer so that she can get a better look. "She rather enjoys the attention even if she's far too dignified to admit it.."

Valery nods, quietly. "I think this has been enough people to me for now..." She takes another deep breath. "And I'm quite tired already... But I'd love to meet you again and hear those tales another day."

Eirene leans in to Costas, muttering something as she takes another drink. She appears to be making vague introductions, gesturing to various familiar and semi-familiar faces in the crowds.

"I know how she feels," laughs softly and grins up at Killian and then to the owl on his arm. "Whisper, such a beautiful and perfect name. Did you come up with it?" The princess pauses to hear and looks a little disappointed that Valery my leave, though she smiles, "I will see you again soon I'm sure. Be well."

When Killian speaks to Valencia, Aislin turns to offer the new arrival a nod and a "Hello." To her cousin, she adds, "Killian, don't spoil Whisper; she'll end up as bad as Nyx over there." She gestures to the falcon in question, who is regarding Reese with adoring eyes, her head cocked slightly to one side. Hello wonderful person who might possibly have food! Turning back to Reese, she corrects, "Her. And I've considered something like that, but then I don't know that Nyx really needs an even larger ego than she already has."

Costas tears his eyes away from the roll of the sea as Eirene puts a bug in his ear. Another of those low grunts is accompanied by a rarer grin tugging at the edges of his lips. After a moment's thought, he replies in volume easily drowned out by the crashing waves.

Ianthe gives Felix a knowing look and leans in, murmuring with a twinkle in her eyes, "I'll be right back." With that, the little woman slips off, getting lost in the crowd as she weaves between bodies and servants in order to get close to where the drinks are being poured. Once there, she nimbly makes off with a couple of bottles of what looks to be good wine and a quartet of glasses. She's light-fingered enough that one might suspect that this isn't the first time that she's liberated items from others. She makes her way back to Felix, Joscelin, and Darrow, a triumphant grin on her face as she holds up the bottles.

Joscelin smothers a giggle in her wrist, watching Ianthe do what Ianthe might just do best. When her sister returns, the Guildmaster laughs outright. "Iya, mother will murder you," she snorts, "If she saw you openly taking after the boys." She grins and helps her with bottles and glasses, passing out the latter and pouring, even Ianthe's.

Eirene gives Costas a 'are you shitting me' look before she bursts into laughter. She puts her hand on his shoulder and leans in, muttering something in pure amusement.

A quiet laugh from Killian ad Aislin's admonishment, "She's already worse, she's just clever about hiding it." He smiles then to Valencia, "I did..she's been my companion in my travels the last couple of years, since I found her injured during a winter storm. She was quite young then, but has grown a bit more than I admittedly expected.." he grins, "And of course she's the absolute terror of mice all over the city by now I've no doubt.."

Is corrected that the pretty bird is a SHE, and Reese looks back at it. "Oh I'm so sorry, I should have realized you were a she." as if that made sense. "Perhaps she liked my helm. Hmm, GOOD taste." she says before glancing. "What does she eat? She doesn't eat zombie entrails probably, but I bet she'd love something fresh that came from the hunt. Does she have her own home? Is it decorated with tapestries of the sky and pretty shining baubles?" asks Reese to Aislin. She's got bird on the brain.

Felix watches Ianthe slip into the crowd, but he's likely not perceptive enough to catch what she's getting herself up to. Drinks, presumably. There's a curious tilt of his head, but nothing more. When she returns, he turns his head towards Joscelin and laughs. "What do ya mean? What just happened?" He's being handed a glass though, so concerns about that quickly melt away. There is booze to be had.

Valencia laughs and greets Aislin with a smile, "No, no. There is nothing wrong with a little adoration from time to time. It warms the heart and makes it sing, yes?" She turns then inclines her head, dark eyes gleaming with pleasure as she studies Nyx as well. "I should introduce myself. My name is Valencia. I am so pleased to meet you, and I am especially delighted to meet Whisper and Nyx." The raven-haired princess turns back to Killian and grins, "I am sure she is. She looks like a formidable lady indeed," dark eyes return to him. "It is truly a stunning name. You are so lucky to have found each other."

Valery waves, lightly, at Reese, Aislin, Killian and Valencia and she starts retreating, giving another general wave to the rest of the people.

All Eirene gets in response from Costas is a shrug, allowing her to come to her own conclusions. The exchange does however dislodge something from him, and the hand slides from its ready perch on his scabbard, drifting into the shadows of his cloak. It emerges a moment later, and he surreptitiously displays for her a bottle of top-shelf amber whiskey, wagging it lightly as a question.

"No," Aislin remarks wryly to Reese, "she was /very/ displeased with the undead bits. But she already stole one of the fish I'd caught, so she doesn't need /any/ more of the feast." This last is directed to the falcon as much as Reese. The falcon, in turn, looks supremely unconvinced, though takes flight from Reese's shoulder once more. Presumably to go search the grounds for more food to grab. Aislin sighs, then turns to Valencia. "There's adoration, and then there's pushing one's luck."

Dagon makes his way to the group surrounding Aislin, "That's quite a bird there. I have one as well, but left her back home. She would be wanting to spend more time diving down for fish than anything else and I figured that this wasn't the time or the palce for that. Still... birds do make for the best animal companions, I think."

Belladonna continues chatting happily away with the group around her, gesturing with her glass towards some tables. She pauses to snag a servant and give some quiet directions. Bella herds the little group to sit, food getting brought out as they approach the table.

Ianthe scoffs and rolls her eyes, "Please. I could teach the boys a thing or two. I probably have," she muses with a little laugh and accepts a glass when it is offered to her.

Valencia seem very content speaking with Killian, Aislin, Reese and now Dagon, "That is so, yes?" the little princess looks curious. "I have always wanted a pet. What makes birds the best companions, Prince Dagon?"

Aislin offers Dagon a respectful nod in greeting. "She's usually a little better behaved than this," she says, as if hoping Dagon can attest to this fact. He saw Nyx on their undead-fighting excursion, after all; the falcon was perfectly well behaved on that trip. (At least right up until she realized she was about to land on the Bringer guts covering Aislin, and decided to just head back to the city on her own.)

Reese smiles to Dagon and tilts her head towards him. "Hello Prince Dagon, so lovely to see you. Is it true that you're sending bards to sing sweet ballads as the sun sets to Princess Natalia? Poems saying she's your guiding star in the dark ocean of life?" asks Reese with a dreamy sigh after the bird flies away. "So romantic. I can't wait until others start emulating you doing that, the city will be lifted up with love."

Transferring Whisper back up to his shoulder as his arm begins to fatigue from supporting the tremendous owl, young Killian smiles. "A pleasure, I am Lord Killian Ashford.." he says by way of his own introduction. He glances towards Dagon and nods a polite greeting as he considers the conversation swirling about. "Whisper isn't much for fish..I imagine the water wouldn't mix well with her feathers. I worry that the neighborhood cats might go missing if she runs out of mice though, I'll admit."

Joscelin snickers softly. "Our near-brothers, Aureth and Fortunato, Grayhopes. We used to terrorize the city as youngsters, but especially this one. She's like one of those furry long-limbed rodent things that scurry over walls and climb into windows and deficate in your bedding when you aren't home." She sips from her drink. "Except louder and much, much smarter."

Pariah, The StormCrow arrives, following Maximilian.

"Because birds have a keen intellect, which also makes them get a little ornery when they're bored." Dagon says to Valencia, nodding to Aislin to indicate agreement about Nyx's behavior. Reese's comment gives him pause, and he coughs, blinking. Thankfully Killian introduces himself and that gives him time to smile at the Ashford. "Good to meet you, Lord Killian. I am Prince Dagon Thrax. Now then, as to this business of bards. I have not hired any bards to proclaim any such thing. If the people of Arx want to emulate me in any fashion, I would say that it's time to prepare their sword arms because there are enemies that need killing. Once we know who they are, of course."

"I am so delighted to meet you, Lord Killian. It is a happy think to meet such charming company," Valencia offers him a charming smile. Her smile grows at Reese's words, "It sounds as though you are a poet, Princess Reese? Such beautiful works to say. It is so good to see such love in the world, yes?"

Darrow takes leave of Felix and Joscelin, heading up the strand towards Dagon Thrax. He arrives, grim and solemn, just as the Prince mentions sword arms. "The people of the salt and sea are ready, my Prince, but I do not know if this is true of the mainland." His reflecting pool eyes travel from Killian to Reese, his arms folded beneath his sea-grey stormcloak.

Belladonna's attention turns from the group she's settling in with, over towards Valencia and Reese, the few around them. The Pravus Duchess watches them for a long moment before she shakes her head and chuckles, turning back just in time to watch Cassius's cooked duck being delivered to him.

Reese hears that Dagon isn't sending sweet things to Natalia. "Oh. You should, I bet she'd adore it. As for sword arms, give me a battle and I'll make sweet music that our swords will dance to in a hymn to Gloria." replies the Grayson princess before winking to Valencia. "Beauty can be found in so many things, and while fear can be a strong emotion, love is stronger." Darrow's words about the mainland people earns a lifted golden brow in an arch, and his comments makes her pretty smile drop.

The people of salt and sea. Max steps out of the crowd next to Dagon and Darrow. "You sound like a fucking poem." Says Max, fittig his cigarello to his lips and puffing deeply. "Not a bad poem, I guess, but like some playwrites vision of what a romantic thraxian might sound like. If you start talking about ice and snow as manifestations of the bitterness in your heart, I'm going to slap you and ship your ass back to darkwater so you can remember we're from a tropical fucking island, cuz."

Eirene has to chuckle. Look, another bird.

Maximilian says this, not with scorn, but amusement underlacing his tone. It's all in humor.

"I haven't defecated in anyone's bedding in years, Josie. Besides, why would I waste time shitting on someone's things when I could just take them?" Ianthe smiles brilliantly, looking remarkably pleased with herself as she sips the pilfered wine.

Joscelin chokes on her wine and it comes out her nose.

"There are Bringers enough gathering in the woods," Aislin mutters, more to Dagon than anyone else. But then, finally, she shakes her head and raises her voice once more. "I'm afraid I should go, though. I have a few other things to get to. Killian, you should stay, if you'd like." She gives a sharp whistle, suddenly, and Nyx seems to immediately shape up; the falcon takes flight once more, covering the short distance to land on her mistress' shoulder.

Cassius has left the Northern Dunes.

Valencia glances up to see the brash and brazen Count Darkwater arrive, a ghost of a smile blossoms on her lips and she offers him a small nod in greeting, before turning her attention back to Killian and the others. "So, if I were to get a companion a bird may be a good choice. I had not considered a bird before. I hand always thought something else might suit me better, but now I'm curious."

Stepping away from Belladonna and the small gathering up on the dunes, Cassius makes his way down to where the food is being cooked. For any that might look his way, the big Knight of Solace looks annoyed.

Felix snorts out with laughter at Joscelin's comment about Ianthe and shakes his head. As Darrow takes his leave, he lifts a hand to wave to him. "I'll likely see ya about in a while, Cap'n." he says, though his voice is tinged with mirth and laughter. Ianthe's words have him bursting out with more laughter then, distracted. "Gods. I might die of laughter around you two yet." He takes a breath then, trying to regain some composure.

Joscelin flails as her sinuses leak fermented grape juice. "-buuuuuuuurrrnnnns...!" she hisses between chortles.

Killian looks around the small group, and then to his cousin. "Actually, I fear I should depart as well. I am afraid that I have things to see to this evening as well..it seems that even those of us who strive to avoid such find ourselves with duties and responsibilities aplenty when we least expect them.." He bows slightly to the assemblage, "it was a pleasure to meet all of you..I hope we can have time to speak again in the future, perhaps over a glass of wine.."

"Darrow, Max. We were mostly discussing how wonderful birds were as pets and companions." Dagon addresses the two Darkwaters as they approach. He nods a farewell to Aislin, and turns towards Reese. "I will perhaps give it some thought, but I also have other things to spend time thinking about. We may need to fight at a moment's notice, so I can't very well sit around and bat my eyes in some dreamy manner either."

Aislin slips out, Nyx on her shoulder. Diva Falcon has left the room.

Darrow looks over at his cousin Maximilian, his dour demeanor not improved by the humor of the former, and sourly replies "A lament, perhaps. For the Reach, I'd have to talk about the swampy mire of the soul. If -I- were to be poetic, which I am most certainly, fucking, not." He folds his arms, glancing out to the shores and the lapping waves. "Though if you'd like me to send raven to the Reaper, by all means. The icier reaches of Maelstrom, the mangrove twists of the Reach, or the shoals of the shipbreaks off of Lacrimus would be preferable to this ... city."

Ianthe reaches out to lovingly thump Joscelin on the back a few times to make sure that she doesn't choke and ruin Duchess Pravus' lovely party. "There, there Josie. Surely, you know how to swallow properly." Ianthe smiles at Felix oh-so-innocently. "Does she?" The sound of the Count of Darkwater's voice shifts her attention in that direction and she gives Max a long look, whether he sees her or not, before returning her attention to the two crafters at her side.

Belladonna turns a bit to watch Cassius as he moves away; she studies his back for a moment before she turns back to those nearby, settling in and flagging herself down another drink. The wine that circulates in general doesn't seem to bother her to drink. When she spots Max, she does lift a hand that way to wave in greeting. There's a bit more talking, but it's kept quiet for those nearby.

Valencia looks mildly disappointed but understand the responsibilities one had must be met. "It was lovely to meet you and Whisper, sir. I hope we should meet again soon." She offers her hand and smiles.

The weather must have changed or something, Reese doesn't look much impressed but she does listen to Dagon as Aislin departs. A brief glance at the others standing by the Thraxian prince, and the Grayson princess turns to head on without much a goodbye said.

Maximilian stares at his cousin, before he bursts into a laugh, clapping the dour man in his back. "Your humor! It improves! Mightily so. I approve." Says the younger darkwater, before gesturing.. "Have you met the lady of the moment, Duchess Belladonna Pravus?" Asks Max, of Darrow. "Come. I will introduce you. She is the head of the Pravus to our south."

Maximilian says this, as he lifts his own cup to Belladonna, then to Ianthe, recognizing their greetings in precidential turn. He's not unpresidential.

Eirene calls out, "Waste of good alcohol," as Joscelin tries to recover. Her solution? Is to pour herself a glass of whiskey once she's finished her wine entirely. As she glances to Belladonna she mutters, "I drink a lot -all- the time..."

Ryder the falcon arrives, delivering a message to Eirene before departing.

Darrow gives a disapproving look at Maximilian at the very suggestion of humor, but nods accedingly at the suggestion. "I have not met the Duchess Pravus. Though she organized this...party. The others..." he gestures vaguely. "Seem to have fun at it. Though- is everything here a festival?" he asks Maximilian, scowling.

The offered hand is taken lightly by Killian, who leans to brush a light kiss upon it, "It would be my true pleasure your highness," he bids Valencia before he moves to withdraw.

Dagon watches Reese move off, then turns to Max and Darrow. "You two, are you at all interested in what I sent you messengers about? If you are, we will be meeting soon to discuss our plans. At the very least, it will give you both a chance to get out at sea and maybe put a few people to the sword. Now excuse me, I think I'm going to go and finish making some preparations. You two take care." He nods, walking off in the direction of the city.

Valencia smiles and lowers her eyes, "Then let us soon me. You may call on me, sir."

"More or less. Mainlanders throw a party for the celebrate their parties." Side-mouths Max to his cousin, moving through the crowd with him. "On the upside, it means they have an enormous appitite for booze."

Maximilian calls back to Dagon.. "I got your message. WE should speak soon, highness!"

Joscelin swats Ianthe's hip and tries to look indignant and not scandalized and utterly fails. "Iya!" she hisses.

Whisper, Slayer of Mice leaves, following Killian.

Darrow nods singularly to Dagon, as the Prince departs. "I will come, your Highness.."

Eirene is, at least, one of those mainlanders with a taste for booze. As Max leads Darrow over she motions with the whiskey in her hand, raising it in greeting. A bottle of Pravus gold and a few empty glasses also sit nearby.

This time it's Felix choking on wine and looking at Ianthe wide-eyed. Egress. EGRESS! The smith looks about to no particular avail, red-faced, and does his best not to just sputter everywhere. "So how was your trip out?" he asks her, dodging in the best way he's able.

Dagon is overheard praising Belladonna for: She's quite the hostess

Dagon has left the Wooden Picnic Table.

Maximilian gestures to Eirene, for Darrow's benefit. "That is Lady Eirene Malvici, of Southport. She's got the smoothness of silk, the sturdiness of leather and a mouth full of curses for anyone who pisses her off." He holds up a fingertip to punctuate. "I -like- her."

Hadrian twists his scrutinizing and calculating harlequin gaze toward Maximilian ere his introduction of Eirene.

Ianthe smiles sweetly at Felix and Joscelin, her big brown eyes and youthful face full of innocence as she fixes a wide-eyed stare on both, "What did I say? Am I making you two uncomfortable?"

Darrow talks in more of an undertone to Max as they head towards Belladonna. "Aye, and our tradeships run the quicker. Does the production of cane in the Reach still run at capacity, or are there wildgrowth to be slashed for the growth?" As they continue, he points out Ianthe some distance away. "I met one of your trade captains, she seemed efficient, if ... of a windblown disposition." At the gestured Eirene, he inclines his head. "Lady Malvici, I am Darrow of Darkwater - a Knight of the Reach and the Weeping Isle."

Belladonna turns when Max and Darrow approach, her gaze promptly seeking out Cassius. There's a glance over towards Eirene and then Costas for a moment, the smile wavering -- but only briefly, steady again promptly enough. She does chuckle for Lianne's words, nodding her head. "Duke Hadrian, this is Count Maximilian Darkwater... Count Darkwater, this is Duke Hadrian Malvici." She jumps in with the introduction when there is a space between wrods. "And this is my cousin, Lady Lianne Pravus." Gesture, gesture, drink. She does smile for Darrow.

Snickering at Ianthe. "Always. But indeed, tell me how your trip went?" she asks. "I didn't realized you'd left and gone, but that doesn't surprise me. Damn busy, between the Guild and the Consortium." She rolls her eyes and says, "Also this other trading company that has risen up, such a pain in the ass." She glances at Ianthe and grins, poking.

Joscelin claims that.

Darrow is overheard praising Max for: Keen in his business acumen, his tradeships ply the waters with rum, sugar, and coffee, and generous to his friends and family - merciless to enemies of the House.

Down by the pavillion that's set up to be cooking, Cassius seems to be, well, staring down one of the servants. The young man works fast, though something seems to be out of order. It's a few more minutes before the big Nightgold Knight has two plates of food in hand, and is heading back towards Belladonna - Approaching Darrow and Maximilian as does. When he's close enough to speak, he doesn't. There's just a displeased look to the two new arrrivals, and a small nod.

Maximilian glances sidelong at his cousin, brow lifting. "That is the most positive thing you've ever said." Max intones, suspiciously. "But I will take it." Turning to Belladonna, Maximilian doffs his cap and bows low. Someone (Probably Ianthe) has been counciling him in proper ettiquet, it seems. What an odd statement that, yes? "My beautiful duchess. Your hospitality is as gracious as your smile." He says, straighteing up. "Duke Malvici. Your sister has spoken well of you, and I think we have met in passing, but never formally. If I can present to you all, my cousin, Lord Darrow Darkwater, of the Weeping Isle."

Valencia quietly listens to introductions and good natured banter thrown back and forth. She spared a small smile and nod for Darrow, having been in his company a few time before, but does not interject into the conversation, preferring to simply listen for now. Another drink is acquired and the princess takes a thoughtful sip, dark eyes scanning the scene around her, a look of warm contentment on her lovely face.

Eirene gives Darrow a nod and a raised eyebrow. She looks at Max as if unsure of the elequence of his companion. "Pleasure, Sir Darrow. Welcome to Arx, eh?"

Felix narrows his eyes at Ianthe and gives her a mock-chiding look, but he's soon breaking into a laugh again. "Me? Nah, that was just damned funny. Yer an arse fer sayin' it while I was takin' a drink." He scrunches his nose up but laughs all the same. "I'd been busy makin' weapons m'self." He nods before listening, eyes on Ianthe while she presumably regales.

Cassius has joined the Northern Dunes.

Hadrian nods his head -whether or not he is particularly pleased about being introduced after Eirene seems, to him, marginal, as he smiles in delight, "A pleasure."

Lianne turns an easy smile to Maximilian as Belladonna offers up introductions, then to Darrow as the introductions are extended further his way, but she doesn't interrupt. Instead, she lifts her glass and drinks to them, stealing a sip of her wine before she leans in toward Hadrian to murmur something softly.

As the round of noble introductions somehow laps itself, Costas takes the opportunity to lean fractionally to Eirene, murmuring, "Scream if something starts or you run out of booze." He then nods lightly to the little group, the Duke, Eirene, Lianne, Cassius, some Thraxans, and then finally Belladonna, before wandering off across the sand in the direction of Felix, Ianthe, and Joscelin.

"The trip went well. As I was telling Felix earlier, I almost stole the ship so I wouldn't have to return, but did not for fears of piracy accusations. That said... you know, it woud be the biggest thing I'd ever stolen. If I could get away with it, I would have bragging rights against the boys -forever-." Ianthe smiles at the thought of that before returning to the conversation, "Everything went smoothly. It was like being home again, out there on the water."

There is a warm smile of approval for Max when he bows, and Belladonna dips her head to him. "It is good to see you," she tells him. "Lord Darrow, it is a pleasure. Count Darkwater, Lord Darrow, this is Lord Cassius Nightgold," she offers as the man walks up, and she smiles brightly at him, reaching to brush a hand against his arm, just above the elbow as she reaches for one of the plates. "Thank you," she tells him softly. As Costas heads away she lifts her glass to him, though she turns right back to those that remain.

"Count Darkwater. Lord Darrow," Cassius says, with little kindness in his voice. Really, this man looks a bit more like he's enduring torture than he is enjoying a party. Still, he settles beside Belladonna and offers her a plate - there's a smattering of all that was being served, from vegetables to fish. Though most importantly, on that plate, there is a duck breast, roasted and already sliced so the Duchess might actually be able to snag a bite of it. Cassius' plate looks about the same, just more.

The Guildmaster looks up as Costas approaches, still wiping at her face and the last of the wine. "Bitch," she says sweetly to Ianthe, before elbowing Felix with another laugh.

"I'd have gone too if I didn't throw up every time water splashed against the hull," says Joscelin. "That being said, I'm glad you're back and safe. Are you going to open up that business I keep telling you to?"

Darrow greets Belladonna and Hadrian in turn. "Duchess, Duke." He nods at Lianne, adding, "Lady Pravus." His disposition remains stern, but he has the strict etiquette of a lord and all the requisite politeness. As Cassius arrives, he finds perhaps another person taking an equal amount of enjoyment in the proceedings, and the dourness with which his water-colored stare back could evoke bets as to whom between the Knight of Sorrow, and the Knight of Solace, is having a more grim and joyless time at the party. "Sir Cassius," he says, tersely.

The figure of a women with wine-red hair begins to approach the beach from the direction of the city, taking the steep descent carefully. The beautiful beach stretches before her, the calm waters just beyond. The view is something that stops her in her tracks, freezing the smile on her face that she wore to greet those attending the festivities. Forgotten, for the moment, are the delicious smells of food, the lovely sound of music, and an array of people to meet, as her focus becomes locked on that of the Bay of Thrax. There is a certain look of awe to her expression, even as she slowly continues to walk nearer, skirt in hand to ease her step.

Eirene offers the whiskey. As Costas takes off she calls out, "It'll likely be me drinking all of it, don't worry," says the medic. Were it not for her finely made black and crimson leathers and the exquisite sword on her hip, she could easily pass for a mercenary. She eyes the duck and then looks over to the cooks by the fires. "I should go grab some venison," she says. "Duke, you want any?" Seeing as Cassius didn't offer the Malvici anything.

Tipping his head to Cassius, Max nods. "Lord Nightgold. It's a pleasure. I have found a great deal of good company in the northmen. Good people, strong warriors. Stiff drink." The women are left unspoken of. Seems more polite. Turning back to Belladonna and Hadrian, Max tips his head once more. "I won't take much of your time, but I wanted to introduce and offer my thanks for the invitation."

Maximilian is overheard praising Belladonna for: A beach, a fire, a drink, a gracious duchess and good company. It doesn't get much better than that for a party.

His posture and stride melt into something completely different as he switches contexts, and by the time Costas has reached the little area where Felix, Ianthe, and Joscelin are gathered an easy smile has found its way into his face. Lifting one rough mitt he greets the trio, warmth in his voice. "Evening. Now what sort of trouble have you all got up to with poor Felix here?"

As Costas starts to approach the tiny group of crafters and alleged criminals, Felix lifts a hand his way and waves in his usual friendly way. The elbow from Joscelin has him laughing a bit again and he elbows her back playfully. With a grin to Ianthe then, he dips his head in a nod. "Maybe you should work on startin' yer own fleet," he tells her with a shrug. "Gotta' be shipwrights aplenty roamin' about."

The party now shrinking and becoming a more intimate gathering of close friends and family friends seem to spark the petite raven-haired princess to action. Valencia, feeling a perhaps a little uncharacteristically shy, withdraws from the group.

Silently slipping to Belladonna's side, Valencia slips her hand into hers and leans forward to place a sweet, light kiss upon her cheek. "You throw the most lovely parties, my sweet Duchess. Thank you for having me. It it one of the most lovely I've attend. I hope you host more," she says with the utmost sincerity.

Clearing her throat, Belladonna manages to avoid snickering as she glances between Cassius and Darrow. Thankfully she has a plate of food now, and so she can fall to silence while she eats. She does glance at Eirene when she addresses Hadrian as 'Duke', but just sticks another bite of duck in her mouth. Max's words have her smiling his way again. "I'm glad that you both could make it," she does finally speak up. And another bite of food is taken. Woah, and then there's Valencia. She smiles and gives a quick smile, returns the cheek kiss. "I am glad you came. I do them regularly; it won't be but a few weeks. I'll see you sometime soon."

Grinning at Costas, Joscelin cackles! "Trouble? Us? He's the trouble-maker, I'm innocent. Ianthe's just as bad as he is, though." She scoffs at Felix. "No! No armadas, don't give her any ideas or it'll be Admiral Ianthe Artusio and I won't stand for the bragging and the 'call me admiral' and 'where's my hat with the big feather' nonsense she's bound to start up on account of all that." Don't let her fool you; the Guildmaster is close to laughing herself sick with giggles, her freckled, gold-skinned cheeks bright pink with her good humor.

Cassius, indeed, seems to have not gotten food for anyone but himself and Belladonna. Rude much? "If you get the one Lord Killian brought down, apparently the Gods smote it for him," Cassius says. More curious statements for Lianne! He then looks back to Darrow and Max. There's a stiff nod. "A fair assessment," he says, to Max. That's how Cassius accepts a compliment, it seems. Cassius then starts to eat, grabbing a chunk of duck with bare fingers.

"See, a fleet is much more my style. I could be a fine 'Admiral Ianthe' but this one," Ianthe jerks her thumb at Joscelin for emphasis, "wants me to open a pastry shop. A -pastry- shop. Really, I think she just wants me to get fat. And broke. Because I can't see how running a pastry shop is going to make me money." The little trader offers Costas a bright smile and a wave as he approaches, calling out, "No trouble. I'm never trouble." She gives the man a wink before looking at her sister with a squint, "What do you have against big hats with feathers? I think I would look quite fetching in one."

Costas adopts a dubious expressions as he pulls a leather-wrapped hip flash from somewhere in the rats nest of belts criss-crossing his torso. "Felix, blink twice if you need rescue." He jokes, having ceased trying to follow the back-and-forth between Ianthe and Joscelin with an amused shake of his head.

Joscelin rolls her eyes at Ianthe, trying not to laugh. "Tehom's tits, woman, you eat those things non-stop and I know for a fact you're a decent baker."

Valencia grins and nod warmly, offering Belladonna a playful wink, "You may count on it, Duchess. Your company would be very welcome. Let's do so very soon." Another sweet kiss to her cheek, the princess turns to issue her thanks, farewells and hopes to see one and all again to others present and till lingering, Lightly gathering her skirts, she politely gives a small but affectionate nod to Maximilian, though he seems preoccupied --- with that the princess depart.

Overcoming her bout of awe, Khanne slips into the party, though with hardly a recognized face, she lingers a bit on the outer edges of gatherings, instead of barging into one. If she manages to catch their eye, she would give a nod of her head and a hand wave towards those she does know; Valencia, Cassius and Max. Others receive a polite smile and dip of her head in passing should they look her way.

Felix just smirks at Joscelin's comment about him being trouble. "/Me?/" he starts, but then clamps his lips shut. Instead, he shifts his attention back and forth between Joscelin and Ianthe as they go back and forth about this hypothetical armada. Even as he looks back to Costas, he's laughing and shaking his head. "I'll wind up with pins through my eyelids next gathering, man! Shoosh!"

Valencia quickly kisses Khanne's cheek as she departs, give her a warm smile. "Have fun. I shall see you later."

Khanne smiles with warmth towards Valencia as she sneaks in a cheek kiss prior to her departure. She nods and says, "I shall try. Be well."

Ianthe glances between Costas and Felix before offering Joscelin a little grin, "I think the fellas feel left out. Which one would you like to torment instead?"

The Guildmaster eyes the gentlemen before her, her gold gaze settling on silver a moment. She looks to Ianthe and sips her drink, before Joscelin murmurs, "You know which."

Maximilian steps back, but does not require Darrow come with him. His countly (AH HA HA) duties done, he seems to be making his way now or food and drink. Booze. Mosty booze. This noble shit is just not his bag.

Eirene goes over to the cooks, selecting a few slices of the freshly roasted venison before she wanders back to the little circle of nobles. As she passes by Maximilian she pauses to speak to him, muttering in a somewhat grumpy mood of her own.

Cassius lifts a duck-greasy hand to give a small wave to Valencia as she departs. Before he can dive back into to shamelessly and messily putting away his food, he catches sight of Khanne's arrival. There's a little wave given her way. The big knight finally glances aside, to Belladonna. "Good duck?"

Maximilian glances sidelong at Eirene - a cough of amusement at something she said. He murmurs back to her, gesturing to the barkeep for something 'below the counter'. He knows the servant has good shit on reserve. MAKE WITH IT.

Costas takes a short nip off of the hip-flask, a moment later squinting as he exhales audibly from the liquor's burn. Popping a squat in the sand, he rests his elbows comfortably, and tosses the flask into the sand between the three others in their group. "Have a taste if you like, powerful spicy stuff. Don't know what it is, came from off another's shelf, but damn if it doesn't kick like an arbalest." He eyes Ianthe and Joscelin with ongoing suspicion, but this is so expected so to barely require mentioning.

When Cassius waves to Khanne, Belladonna looks that way and offers the woman a warm smile. Not that she calls out, instead just nodding her head to the question asked of her as she puts another bite into her mouth. "Mmmhmm," she agrees after a moment. "Thank you. It's been a while since I've actually had duck." And yes, Max is definitely provided with the good shit that's on reserve.

Darrow turns, solitary again in the sweep of socializing spreading around the tables. Nearly forgotten, the man makes his way down to the platter lined dining trestle, taking some venison and eating it, more mechanically, than with any relish. He wanders a bit away, eating and facing the sea, which does seem to improve his mood from grim to just regretfully solemn.

Darrow has joined the Southern Dunes.

Darrow has left the Southern Dunes.

Darrow has joined the Quiet Strand.

Felix blinks once or twice at Ianthe as she threatens torment, but then he just laughs and once more shakes his head. His own eyees lock to Joscelin's briefly as she indicates him. Taking a casual sip of wine, he gives her a look. "Oh, you think I'm scared, do ya?" Again he shakes his head and makes a slow, steady 'tsk'ing sound.

Joscelin's grin is almost wolfish.

Ianthe snatches Costas' flask so fast that it almost seems like a magic trick. She offers a grin to the man and says with a delighted smile, "Don't mind if I do. The only thing better than free liquor is liquor that I don't know the origins of." She takes a nip off the flask and swallows, sucking in a breath as her eyes widen. "Nice!" She takes another drink and passes the flask back at Costas. The woman catches a glimpse of the interplay between Felix and Joscelin and rolls her eyes, muttering, "Get a room. Or a sand dune."

Joscelin fidgets. "Sand chafes." And then promptly blushes, furiously.

Eirene glances over at the commoners party for a moment, narrowing her eyes as she looks them over.

Ianthe looks at Joscelin evenly, "But it can be remarkably exfoliating."

Joscelin gets wine up her nose, -again-.

A messenger arrives, delivering a message to Maximilian before departing.

Just watches Joscelin and Felix and his smile blooms a bit wider, though he moves on before it edges into voyeurism. His gaze falls on Ianthe then and he takes the flask from her, commenting to her privately in a low tone, though his wagging gesture at the pair is obvious.

Eirene laughs and claps Max on the shoulder. She shakes her head in clear amusement, "I see what you mean..."

Khanne notes Belladonna's smile towards her. She offers one in return with a small bend of her knee and dip of her head to follow. The smells of the food attract her attention then and she wanders over to see what is offered, and to socialize with any who mill about there.

Eventually, Bella eats what she's going to from on her plate, and she sets it down. She circles back around to Cassius's side after collecting herself yet another glass of alcohol. Leaning in, she speaks to him quietly again -- given the mischief in her expression, she's probably teasing the poor grumpy fellow.

Lianne, having fallen to quietude, isn't entirely inanimate. Wine glass in hand--and hardly touched, not quite following the advice of the day--she drifts from the familiar nobility as she watches the rest of the crowd and its interactions with muted curiosity. That subdued study marks the odd man out, the one separate from the rest, and it is in Darrow's direction that she eventually heads, in no particular hurry to impose on his solitude but with every intention of doing just that.

Lianne has left the Northern Dunes.

Lianne has joined the Quiet Strand.

Costas blinks in surprise at Ianthe, then casts a long, appraising eye over Felix. At length he only nods, a private smile creasing his lips. "Well that's the way of it, I suppose. The heart wants, and we can but follow." Rolling back on his heels out of the squat, he thumps heavily into the sand beside her. After taking a swig of the potent drink, which he holds punishingly in his mouth, he again offers her the flask.

Hadrian blinks

Cassius looks up to see Lianne go, then Bella finish and takes his arm once more. He leans towards her just a bit, to listen. Then there's a grunt, and he side-eyes the woman. He murmurs something back to her, then raises a hand to flag down a servant, and grab himself something to wipe his hands off, and get rid of his dirty plate. That done, he stands, and offers his arm to Belladonna once more.

Maximilian claps Eirene on the shoulder, then seems to be making his way out of the area, along the beach.

Maximilian has joined the Wooden Picnic Table.

Maximilian has left the Wooden Picnic Table.

Maximilian has joined the Southern Dunes.

Hadrian leans in toward Eirene, "What happened?"

Felix snaps his attention to Ianthe and laughs at her again, actually going so far as to hold but not drink his wine for now. Drinking, he's decided, is entirely too perilous at the moment. There's a curious look for Costas and Ianthe's more discreet conversation, but he once more turns his attention to Joscelin and takes a step over. "There was some mention of dancin'. Would ya care to?" The smith extends a hand to her, palm up.

Ianthe accepts the flask with a smile and takes another long pull from it, "That's usually how it goes." Her gaze drifts toward Max as he wanders toward the beach and she calls out, "Going for a swim, my lord?"

Eirene returns with the food, nodding to Max as he heads off his own way. Her warm blue eyes blink in surprise at Hadrian's question. "Just catching up with Count Max," she replies with a laugh, offering venison.

Joscelin resists the urge to look behind her when Felix asks her to dance, flustered for a number of reasons. But she takes his hand and squeezes it, moving to go where he leads. She looks at Ianthe and Costas, and eyes Costas the hardest. And blushes.

Maximilian glances over as his attention is called to. "What? No. No... it's rude to..." And then MAx trails off, realizing that errant, flippant words like what were going to follow, are how wars are started. "I... will be staying dry tonight."

There's a smile back for Hadrian, a little tip of her head, and then Belladonna takes Cassius's arm again. She swallows from her glass, starts heading with him in the direction of Joscelin, Felix, Ianthe, and Costas. But it looks like there's movement going on there, and she pauses, looking sidelong up at Cassius with a lifted eyebrow.

Catching Joscelin's gaze Costas winks back, and then casts his eyes over the big smith, deep satisfaction on his face.

"Pity. Seems a nice night for a swim." Ianthe grins, her eyes glittering with the reflection of the fire as she brushes her hair out of her face and turns her attention to Costas, "You and Felix are friends, then?"

Hadrian leans back slightly, his gaze glossy with the haze of drink, as he smiles contentedly.

A messenger arrives, delivering a message to Khanne before departing.

A messenger arrives, delivering a message to Khanne before departing.

Felix is moving towards wherever dancing happens to be taking place hand-in-hand with Joscelin. There's a glance back towards Ianthe and Costas at their exchange and a laugh rolls from his lips again. For now there is dancing. With Belladonna's approach, the smith smiles her way and lifts a hand for a friendly wave. "Duchess Pravus," he greets her with a dip of his head in a nod. "This has been great fun. Thank ya fer havin' us. This is Joscelin Arterius, Guildmaster of the Crafters Guild." The introduction is given in his usual cheery tone and manner.

Cassius gives a nod to Hadrian and departs the dune, heading down towards Joscelin and Felix, with Belladonna on his arm. When he sees them heading to dance, the displeased look on Cassius' face grows just a touch more displeased. He gives a look to his side, to Belladonna. He stares a moment, before looking back to Felix and Joscelin. There's a nod to them, then back to Belladonna. "Would you care to dance, Duchess?" he asks.

Costas lifts his eyebrows at the question from Ianthe. "Ah well.." he wonders, turning his head in the direction of Felix as he and Joscelin wander off to the dancing. "Oi Felix!" He calls out to Felix, "Would you say are we friends, mate?" His smiles is wide and fraternal, and meanwhile his hand slides admiringly over the sleek polished wood of the scabbard that holds his Whip's Lament.

Maximilian nods to Ianthe as he wanders closer to the commoners, hands folded behind his back. A landfish. Neither common nor terribly noble, but existing on the tideline. NOt sure if he wishes to swim or to walk.

Joscelin is breathless and smiling, pleased to dance, and doing a fair job of it. When the Duchess approaches, the Guildmaster is pink-cheeked, gold eyes sparkling. She inclines her head to Belladonna. "My Lady Duchess," she says with a smile. "I am pleased to meet you."

"You know that I would, but I think you've been saved from such a fate," Belladonna notes for Cassius, guiding him the rest of the way over to Felix and Joscelin. She smiles warmly for the pair, bowing her head. "And I am pleased to meet you, Guildmaster Arterius. I am pleased that you chose to honor us with your presence. This is Lord Cassius Nightgold; Lord Cassius, let me also introduce Master Felix Meadson." More introductions are made. "I am glad you both could make it -- and thank you again, Master Meadson. I hope that it was not *too* difficult for you to avoid actually working this evening." She looks over Costas's way when he calls out to Felix, then turns her attention back.

Ianthe laughs at Costas and shakes her head, "Point taken then." Ianthe gives Max a pointed look and scoffs, "Oi, stop dilly-dallying, my lord. Come sit. The fire is warm. The booze is good. Might not be the rarified company you get over there," Ianthe nods her head off toward the direction where the nobles had been clustered, "But my friend Costas and I are very funny. Aren't we, Costas?" She offers a brilliant smile to the man before looking at Max again.

Khanne has joined the Wooden Picnic Table.

Cassius seemed to be earnestly willing to join the dancing, save Felix and Joscelin stop. The big knight is saved! Which doesn't mean he looks much happier. "Good to meet you," says the man, sounding grumpy and put off, but trying at it. "Both of you," he says, to Josceline and Felix. "I may be in need a new sword soon. Makes me glad for meeting you both," he says, in a statement that's nothing if not factual.

Maximilian nods to Ianthe, as he steps closer to the fire... "Master Costas. Its good to see you. Iante... I Was wondering if you could provide a detailing of how your voyage went?" he inquires, offering the bottle he pilfered from the bar - the good stuff - to the riff raff.

Khanne takes her plate of food over to a picnic table, munching on some morsel along the way while her eyes scan the water all the way to the horizon. She takes a seat, adjusting her skirts carefully.

Eirene nods to her nephew and then raises a hand towards the party on the beach. "Costas, I'm taking this with me," she says of the good whiskey. "See you at the estate."

Carissa, a Malvici bodyguard have been dismissed.

Popping a glance over his shoulder when he hears Eirene, he lifts on of those callused mitts and waves in her direction, but refrains from raising his voice again.

To Ianthe he then comments as Max joins them, "Oh aye. We're a regular riot, you and I. Count spends enough time with us he might die laughing." He takes yet another swig from the hip flash, not reacting nearly so strongly to the intense burn this time around.

Felix may not notice Cassius' displeasure or maybe he's just got his friendliness forever dialed to eleven. A bright, cheery smile is given the man's way and his eyes spark with familiarity. "Oh! I am acquainted with both Lady Signe and Lord Sigurd, m'lord." His brows furrow a touch. That was a lot of titles. Still, he happily makes conversation. "It's a pleasure to meet you as well." He slips his arm in to hook it with Joscelin's as he regards the noble man. "Well, I did make Lord Sigurd's long knife, if yer of a mind to see my work for yourself. I never dissuade visitors from the shop either, but I'm doing some ah...revonatin'." Smiling to Belladonna then, he once more nods to her. "Well, we will be dancin' at some point. I promised. This has really been a great night out, Duchess." The question of him working has him clearing his throat and holding up his free hand solemnly. "Didn't even lift a finger," he tells her, silently adding in his head 'as far as you know'.

Eirene has left the Northern Dunes.

Felix looks back towards Costas at his question and grins back his way. "I'd say that's the best estimation of it!" he calls back, his loud voice easily carrying. "though I'd say we've not yet emptied our last cask!"

"I've further business I'd like to discuss with you sometime soon; Pravus does not have a weaponsmith dedicated here in Arx, and I've some needs where my guards are concerned," Belladonna does not realize what she's doing until the words have escaped, at which point she laughs. "But -- later, not tonight, because I am not supposed to be working, either." She smiles, does note for Cassius, "Master Meadson does incomperable work. If you need a blade, I highly recommend him." There's another smile for Joscelin, a dip of her head to the pair of them. "We'll let you get on with enjoying yourselves, though; I just wanted to say hello, thank you both for coming." There's a smile fluttered for the pair before she's looking back to Cassius.

Ianthe laughs at Costas, but Max's request has her attention before she can offer further commentary. She tilts her head and cuts her eyes at Costas before looking at the Count again, "Aye, I should give full report. Would probably be better done in your office, though. There's a map there," she adds mildly, her eyes never leaving Max's.

"Riots get put down in my neck of the islands." Says Max, fully approaching and tossing the bottle into the sand by Costas and Ianthe, his hands now warming themselves by the fire for a moment. He glances over at Ianthe, nodding once. "I don't mean to take you from your revelrie and friends, Ms. Ianthe.."

The Guildmaster laughs, even as she notes Cassius tempered mood. "It's lovely, thank you, and if there's meat left over from my kill, can I ask you to donate it to the Mercier Shelter? They can can it or turn it into jerky and it keeps a long while." She lightly elbows Felix again. "He lies, my lady, I saw him fuss when I left and he was still fussing when I came back from the hunt."

"Excellent," Cassius says, and seems to mean it, even if his tone is still stiff. Uncomfortable. It seems to be a general response to the all of it. "I will be in touch," he promises. Then there's a glance aside, to Belladonna, then another stray look aside, before he looks back to the duchess. "Care to take a walk, Duchess? Or am I going to be held to that dance?" he asks her.

Belladonna gives Felix a Look. "I am somehow not surprised," she comments, voice playfully dark. She does nod for Joscelin's words. "We can see such done, certainly. It seems there might be a fair bit of food left over, and I had other thoughts -- but I think that is better. Thank you." She does laugh for Cassisus's words, shakes her head. "We can walk," she tells him. "I won't make you dance with me."

Along the very edge of the festivities, where the hush of the water nearly drowns out the din of conversation, Lianne stands not too far from Darrow, a few feet left between them, as the pair exchange quiet words. She spares only a brief look back for the party left behind, a small smile yet bowed on her lips.

Cassius gives one more nod to the pair of crafters. "Good evening," he tells them. Then he turns, and heads away from where there might be dancing. He offered, he'll not fight over self-torture. Instead, he leads Belladonna way, past a servant with whine, then towards a copse of trees. An idle point to heads towards, as Cassius moves at an easy pace.

Cassius has left the Northern Dunes.

Cassius has joined the Beneath Trees.

Belladonna has left the Northern Dunes.

Belladonna has joined the Beneath Trees.

Felix lets another broad grin come to his lips as his weapons are spoken of. There might be a bit of beaming with pride as well as he does certainly take pride in his work. Joscelin is outing him for working, though, and he lifts a hand to his lips to stifle a clearing of his throat. "Only to avoid some o' the consequences of loose arrahs," he protests, the hand held up switching to only holding up one finger. "And I only picked 'em up an stowed 'em as I moved along me intended path. As the two of them move away though, the weapon smith looks once more to Josie and gives her a playful nudge back. "You're just the /worst/," he says, looking at her in mock horror. This is of course before he breaks into a smile and starts walking again. "C'mon, traitor. Let's go dance."

Lifting himself up and getting his legs beneath him, Costas straightens to his full height. The hip-flask disappears into his belts. "Sounds like serious business." He pats sand from his leathers. "Ianthe. Count." Casting his eyes over the beach and its occupants, he eventually wanders back in the direction of Duke Hadrian. The earlier transformation occurs in reverse, and by the time he comes to rest a few respectful paces from the man who commands his House, Costas is all stillness and silence.

Ianthe nods to Costas as he rises and wanders way, back to the nobility. She lifts a brow and then turns her gaze toward Max, offering him a grin, "Looks like I'm free, my lord." She reaches a hand out to him to help her off the sand as she says with another smile, "Shall we then?"

Maximilian gives Ianthe his hand, gesturing to the bottle. DOnt' leave it!

Belladonna flutters a smile at Felix and Joscelin, gives a dip of her head. She chuckles for Felix's defense, but doesn't offer any chastisement. "Take care," she tells them both, and then she's moving to follow Cassius, walking comfortably at his side and giving him an entirely curious sort of look.

Ianthe doesn't forget the damned bottle. What kind of wanna-be pirate does Max think she is?

Pro-tip. When someone says: 'What kind of an X do you think I am?' they are NEVER actually asking you for your opinion. Max turns to head back into the city with Ianthe, amusement writ on his features.

Hadrian says, "I thimk I need to take my leave"

Hadrian has left the Northern Dunes.

Rohm the Blackguard, Sarvi leave, following Hadrian.

Maximilian has left the Southern Dunes.

Ianthe has left the In the Water.

Pariah, The StormCrow, Ianthe leave, following Maximilian.

Khanne A messenger comes by again as Khanne sits at the table, finishing her plate. She takes the note and nods, dealing with her plate before following him back into the city.

Khanne has left the Wooden Picnic Table.

Joscelin laughs and grins at Felix. "Yes I am," she agrees, and follows him to the dancing.

His duty discharged, Costas surveys the beach one last time, but if there were some expression on his face it is too distant to be read. The deep hood of his cloak slips back over his head and he disappears into the gloom. The slow, haunting notes of some sea shanty drift on the night air in his wake, growing fainter by the moment.

Costas has left the Northern Dunes.

Darrow nods, his eyes growing a bit distant. "Setarco - south and west along the outer Saffron currents. Fairly close, to the Watch, but I've never sailed down that way. So rare a place near this city to find solitude. Setarco must be unique, too." He shrugs, thoughtfully. "The port of the Watch is bustling. Never a quiet moment. In Maelstrom, and further through the Mourning Isles things can be quieter, at times, til the storms rage."
