Well it finally happened. I've gotten to the point I have my stoumach protest the sight of soup. It didn't help that I got sick recently either.

I'm going to carry hot cocoa in the soupflask for a while. Now it is the cocoaflask. Maybe I'll take to jerky as well, I've gotten better at hunting. Some of the other guardsmen swear by a good jerky.

Relationship Note on Kaldur

I like the thoughts you shared on this. I don't really think I should be the one to answer my own thoughts, though I often try. Your perspective is one I will value.

I have been thinking a lot lately on the way people respond when you try to help someone. When you try to show kindness, or what you might see as that. I've said no to people as a kindness, I've redirected people as a kindness, I've given honest answers and riddles as a kindness. Yet the one thing I have never found kindness in is silence, nor is silence something I am overly prone to.

Yet silence can happen for many other reasons. It can be chance, a misunderstanding, being too busy. There are many ways in which silence is not a choice.

What then, of when it is?

What is kindness?

It seems like such an obvious thing when I see it, it seems like an obvious thing when I give it. Yet to put it into words is difficult, because it isn't quite to be kind. Being kind and kindness, no, they're different things.

It isn't to be good, or generous, or nice. Often they're the same, but not always. So what is kindness?

And is it different to me than it is to someone else?

The Sentinel has been on my thoughts of late.

A person at the Salon recently said that they believe all justice is relative to the person seeking it. Yet the one in our Pantheon who upholds justice as an ideal is faceless. Nameless. They are only known by their title.

So then what is justice with a face, really?

The sun never kisses me yet light am I born, the flame never warms me yet I burn to the touch.

What am I?

Answer not once but twice and in opposite ways, and you'll find one truth that might brighten your winter day.

Two years. Two years, I have tried to meditate and failed every time.

This week I was finally able to succeessfully clear my mind and meditate. The things I imagined, what I envisioned, it was beautiful. This was worth the effort.

Because of multiple requests, I am considering a revision and new release to the Liquors of Arx. This was originally an experiment to prove my ability as a scholar to myself. It wasn't something I expected to do more than once. The Liquors of Arx, Revised for the new year, would be a text meant to list what liquors are currently available and prominently displayed for those seeking exotic libations.

I am requesting the assistance of a co-writer and access to the collections of those in Arx with a penchant towards imbibed spirits. The text will credit all parties appropriately, and will be shared at no charge with those whose liquors show amongst their pages - if the maker is known. For those who requested this, know that I won't be undertaking the effort with a co-writer.

In speaking with others a common thread of discussion of late has been what we fight for. Do we fight for an ideal like honor or justice? Do we fight for personal gain such as wealth or glory? Do we fight for others out of a sense of duty or loyalty? Or do we feel the need well within us and fight out of a sense that we should, without tying it to a reason?

I can have five people and get six answers to this. Not because it is a difficult question, but because rarely are people so simple as to have only a single motivation. I have had the privledge of serving alongside people so very different from myself yet united in common cause. There is something magical, something holy about people coming together in such a way.

I will pray, as I have after every battle, that people remember that unity. That we hold onto it. If only for a short while.

I finally saw one of the big ones. The really, really big ones. I froze up, I went chill, I felt fear. If it was not for Dame Esoka's intervention, I don't know if I would have shaken that sense off. We lost many valiant men and women on that soil, but without her it would have been far worse.

More losses come to my ears. So many good and noble souls who are now fallen heroes. I will remember them as best as I can, pray for their return to the wheel at Death's Shrine, but it is difficult not to dwell on this.

I tell others that those fallen arn't gone for ever, we merely walk apart from one another for a time. That with the turning of the wheel, our paths may cross once again.

I know there is truth to those words or I would not say them, yet the pain of loss is still a heavy thing. With each war it grows heavier.

He accepted me as kin barely having met me. Something that meant a lot to me, given my circumstances. I regret not getting to know him better when there was time, and will remember him in my prayers to the Queen of Endings.

The Dune Kingdoms of Eurus remain more distant mystery than anything I expect to see in my lifetime. Yet there is one nuance to all I've heard about it that leaves me quite curious. There seems to be twelve kingdoms in all. I expected there to be thirteen, and I'm left unsure if there is one that was lost at some point in time.

I've allowed myself to grow bitter and flippant.

I recognize what has had this impact on me. I cannot fault those who take fault with me for it, acknowledging there is a reason does not take the responsibility of that failing from me.

I apologize to any whom I have offended, slighted, or upset. I regret I am not capable of saying who that might be, perhaps if I realized when I caused offense I would have corrected my behavior far sooner.

An apology does not absolve me of my misconduct, but perhaps by recognizing what I have done I can change myself so it does not happen again.

A bit of wisdom for all the future soldiers who follow in the Iron Guard's elite footsteps.

*this seems to be misfiled with his journal notes*

Wilhelm, I need you to collect more information on the man who made himself sick drinking that paint. I'm trying to figure out if he was trying to hurt himself or legitimately so daft as to think it was something else, and if the first, get him in proper care. Unsuprpisingly, we need to order more blue paint. I had to include a lake and some streams in a map this morning and dilluted the remaining paint so much to make it last they ended up looking purple.
