Relationship Note on Malcolm

Another year older, another year wiser. Another year closer to the goal I've had for quite some time now.

I would thank my exceptional Patron, Duke Malcolm Shepherd, for his entirely-too-generous gift of donating a vast amount of silver to the Faith of the Pantheon in my name. Surely, it resounds in the ears of the Gods and I am well pleased.

What does this new year hold?

I'd like to take a moment today to congratulate the Archlector of Gild, a man more intoxicating than whisky. Three years is a long time to survive me. Today we celebrate the best decision he ever made.

An exceptionally entertaining evening at the Keaton's autumn festival! That maze was a thrill, and congratulations to my partner in crime, Lord Sebastian Pravus, for placing second. I've been given the pleasure of naming the pup he won. I am open to suggestions and bribes.

My twenty-eighth year approaches in a matter of weeks. In truth, I never thought I would live so long.

And as I have every year for a very long time, I ask myself a single question...

Have I done anything lately worth remembering? And this year I am content to answer that I have, and that is my gift to myself.

Sometimes I see the yellow-gold moon outside my window and I long for Greenhaven with all the fierceness in my heart, ache for its glow above me, for the forest floor beneath my feet and the green scent of true life all around me. I catch the smell like a spirit from the past, teasing and illusionary, and it carries me home just for a moment.

Such is the stuff of memory. A beautiful double-edged sword.

There is little more to be said. The Archscholar summed it up perfectly in her own white journal entry and I echo all those sentiments.

But her own efforts at seeing the Storybook Soiree to fruition, she underplayed.

Long have I been a contentious figure amongst the Faith. And where others heap scorn and ridicule, the Archscholar gave compassion and heart. She shared not only the Vellichorian Academy’s great hall and her considerable skill as co-host, but acceptance and humanity. And that, I will never forget.

The prize book is divine by some miracle, the exterior expertly wrought in Guildmaster Josephine's shop. The Storybook Soiree is one day away and I am beside myself with anticipation. I cannot think of a more fitting celebration in this Age of Stories. If there are any yet to read the incredible submissions for the Gilded Page's Literary Competition, I would encourage it, for tomorrow the authors revealed, the prizes awarded and the stories brought to life.

My thanks in advance to every single soul who breathed life into this vision, and all who have reached out to express their enjoyment. It means so much.

I am grateful for much these days. The Archscholar is a person for whom I feel immense gratitude. It is an honor to cohost the Soiree with her, and a greater honor still to be able to transform the Academy into a land of stories.

I was asked today whether or not costumes are mandatory for attendance to the Storybook Soiree. They are not. Anyone at all may attend! No costume necessary, just encouraged.

However, one may only win the platinum prize book if one arrives in costume, having voted for their favorite story from the Literary Competition beforehand.

Relationship Note on Delia

I must give thanks yet again to the Sweetest Whisper. I was struggling with the grand prize for the costume contest at the Storybook Soiree. I could not, for the life of me, think how to present the book, or what should be its content. And then she came in and suggested placing the Platinum just so, the Jade and the Onyx in this other position, ah, and yes, here should be the other gems and precious metals presented like this to make it look just like... well, I won't say what yet. Leave a little to surprise. Suffice to say, my gratitude is boundless and the prize shall be quite like nothing Arvum has ever seen.

The Torchlight Tournament was a great deal of fun! I wish there were more chances to play with small sharp objects. And the prize, a diamondplate weapon of exceptional skill, was an honor to behold.

Votes have started coming in for the Literary Competition and it's exciting to see the results thus far! There's still a bit longer left to vote, though the Storybook Soiree fast approaches. My deliberation on a costume is intense. Do I? Or do I not? How infamous do I wish to be? I could use many opinions.

Relationship Note on Delia

If I ever doubted that Gild favored me, I doubt it no longer. She continually shines a light in my life. This newest light comes in the form of Delia Whisper, and her acceptance of my offer of patronage.

I did not think to take another protege. But I could not think to do otherwise. The Sweetest Whisper is a wellspring of compassion and kindness, her quick thinking and peaceful nature a direct complement. I think we will spend many a year in the joy of being patron and protege, dark and light.

Mostly, though, I think we will be friends.

The seven incredible entries for the Second Annual Gilded Page Literary Competition have been displayed proudly and prominently in the library! There are copies for purchase in a lovely little cherry wood bookcase set, and then there is a set to be borrowed and read as well, for those who cannot afford the cost of the set.

Make sure to vote for your favorite book after you've read them, by sending your vote to Lady Monique Greenmarch via messenger.

Voting will close on the day of the Storybook Soiree, just before the event start, 9/20/1011 AR.

May fortune smile upon all the exceptional authors who have contributed to this Competition, and may our readers enjoy the respite from reality that their talent has provided.

Truly, a Patron without peer. He spoils me. But he also acts as a moral lodestone, naturally drawing me down paths that I might not have otherwise chosen.

Tomorrow is the last day for entries into the Gilded Page's Literary Competition! Which means the next day I have the honor of releasing the entries for reading and voting. My excitement knows no bounds! I've had small bookcases made at Highway Robbery to house the sets for purchase and of course, for those who wish to read the entries and vote but cannot afford a set of their own, there will be a special bookcase in the front room of the Page containing copies for reading and returning.

The cut off date for submissions to the Gilded Page's Literary Competition fast approaches, only five more days! And then I shall be able to release the exceptional volumes written for public consumption and voting. That, I think, is the part I am looking forward to the most.

And I managed to secure a piece of jade for the costume contest book prize. This will be the most beautifully decorated book ever made.

Now, if I could just stop having frosty visions of Arn and the destruction of the Oathlands...
