The ship has set sail without me, I'm at shore, waiting to see if it will return. How long do I wait? The ship returns, and yet I cannot board, everything is in limbo and I'm unable to figure out what comes next. When will the boarding begin? Locked in sight of this one ship, how many have I missed? Have I missed the last boat, and now I must wait along the shore forever? I look along the shore and there are indeed more, a veritable fleet of suitable ships. I'll need to board one to reach my destination, and if a new ship accepts me as a passenger before the first, than I'm afraid that I will not continue to wait on shore for a boat that has yet to show any indication of an interest in setting sail. I'm not made for the shore, my destiny lies beyond the horizon. I need only a sturdy ship to get me there.

I'm starting to think my nautical metaphors need work. Such a disgraceful display.

I still love meditating before the statue of Mangata on the beach. This miracle of craftsmanship is such a beautiful blend of art and architecture. I have dabbled a bit in sculpting, perhaps I should dive into it once more.

*The rest of the entry is a series of waves and birds in a stylized rendition of an ocean shore*

I've made a few more mistakes in these last few days, but I think I've gotten a handle on it. The inspiration of Jayus is a difficult one to overcome. I just hope that I can continue to make a better impression on people in the coming days, I've been busy. I hope to continue to be busy in the months and years to come, and I'm also always seeking out new art subjects for any that are willing to be subjected to the demands of an artist.

Relationship Note on Neve

Met Lady Neve today. She seems a unique and eager soul. Joyful, and earnest.

<enclosed with the entry is a Graphite sketch>

*Drawn in graphite on sketch paper, the sketch shows a woman with wide and eager eyes, joyful and exuberant as her lips quirk in a soft smile. The blonde hair frames her face as it dances wildly around her shoulders, a single strand of black seemingly mingling with the blonde. She rests her chin upon her fingers, supporting herself on the back of her hand, and through that joyful expression is just a hint of mischief and zeal.*

I woke up, dragged myself from bed still dressed in my nightclothes, still so muddled and leaded from the evening before. Roses and honey, hidden thorns, softened with rum. I stood in front of the easel with the intent to paint what I saw.

I cannot. I likely will, when it's easier. But, I had to throw on my cloak and find my slippers - and run, run to record this into the Journal before it fades and I forget and it turns to nothing but the stuff of dreams and sketchbooks.

She's holding on, our brave and beautiful goddess of the water and the air - but. But not forever. Her hold is fragile, like a bubble. Like a bubble it will also pop. It's been slowed, but...

It, so beautiful and horrible. Is still coming.

What do you do when you ARE a member of a House that has the rest of the Compact's focus?

When you are forced to study an image that reminds you that your culture prizes coin over human life. Reminding you that human beings who can be bought and sold as commodities like cattle, forced to work as they pay off their debts. No, it's not the same as the slave auctions of Eurus, but the demand that slavery in _all_ of its forms must come to an end.

That we, as Thrax, that have grown serious about living our lives and honoring the gods as we have - we should, we need be striving to make that happen today. It's going to take such a long time, but we need to begin somewhere. We devalue and humiliate the guilty. We need to find different ways of judgement and punishment. We need to eradicate the discriminatory injustice. We need to protect, respect, and educate the freed outright. We need to reform the system. We need to tear it down to the foundations and rebuild it in such a way that regulates it and moderates it. We are set apart from the rest of the Compact by Thralldom, and, we have been shown that in order to be successful against our enemies we need to be unified.

Does this mean conforming? To a degree, yes. We are long past time. We have moved beyond that dark chapter of our history, and long past time for all believers to take more of a stand. Because on this issue we can unquestionably stand together.

Only through challenge will we grow.

Relationship Note on Ian

"Endurance."

( Done in graphite and overlaid with ink, with specific and hyper-realistic attention to the details of the textures. A black coat folded precisely and set aside on a wooden bench. A polished cane set on top of the folded coat. A flask, dull in comparison to the shine on the cane, has a design of a serpent upon it. The still life drawing seems to be a frozen moment of waiting or watching. )

( A watercolor study. The rag paper has been pressed into the page of the journal with the date: 3/22/1007 AR.

A fair face, head tipped back, long and unpinned hair caught in an indecisive color - neither gold nor silver. A vexing color in between that the paint cannot quite capture, although effort has been made to. Across bare shoulders with skin white as marble, and that hair falls down her back, as a mantle. She's smiling, and the vivaciousness in that expression is reflected in every other feature. Summer sky blue eyes are playful, devious. )

( Another drawing in the Journal, as bright as the first was dark. Light - conveyed in rays of sun and thunderstorm bolts of lighting. Haloed around the center of the pages, surrounding vaguely gray shapes. Perhaps weapons. Either that, or ornate tableware. Perhaps a young woman's fantastical idea of weapons, for the shapes seem to be products of an overactive imagination rather than real tools of war.

The profile of a man: all jet and midnight.

Staring into the eyes of a similar man. All raven and sapphire. Although there is no emotion in those beautiful eyes.

Behind the storm clouds there are birds, poorly detailed seabirds, that fill the horizon line to the top of the pages.

So many birds. )

( Dark, dark colors. Every color in the tin must have been used to create the muddy, all - consuming color that angrily, violently whirlpools across two pages. Sharp, white teeth - shark's teeth, row upon row, somehow like razors or shards of mirror center this whirlpool. The rest is chaos. Shadowy forms that could be interpreted as figures, or some other shapes, are being consumed or are otherwise being pulled into the mess of scribbles where the artist has pressed so hard that she's torn through the page.

There's a sense of futility to this drawing.

Utter despair. )

Misdirection and misinformation.

( Just a single page that's been heavy shaded over with charcoal. The outline of a hooded figure has been added in white chalk. The colors smudge together, rendering the figure shadowy and indistinct. )

( A starry night sky in dreamy watercolors. Swirls of indigo, cobalt, deepest violet, and bright yellows for the stars. The moon is oddly oblong, robin's egg blue, with a zig-zagging crack going down the center of it, breaking open. Beneath the hatching egg moon there is a boy with a tousle of springy black hair, alert eyes, and a hawkish sort of nose. The boy's arms are flung open wide. The look upon his face is that of innocent wonder.

A lion's tail flicks out from behind the egg moon.

A few feathers, soft and pale, are at the boy's feet. )

Relationship Note on Regla

Aggressive Diplomacy.

( The Sword of Escuma. One of the Voices of Navegant. Her profile rendered with quill and ink. The beauty of fierceness. The portrait honors a woman that uses her strength to the good of herself, her family, her House. Her features are delicate, yes, but there is an element of determination in her expression that holds her place where others would flee. It's a brilliant wildness in the eyes, the wind-blown hair around her brow and shoulders. )
