Mason and I have an expedition for the Explorers to go on. It'll be interesting to see who volunteers to go. He's made the announcement already, and I've put him in charge - since this one is his baby.
I've also let the other Explorer's know that I'm leading them now. It's weird to consider myself the Pathfinder, after Aislin was for so long. My first task will be to name some First Seekers and to bolster the ranks of the Seekers, as some of our members have moved on to the Wheel. I'm keeping watch on the group we have, to see who shines brightest as leadership material.

I sent this message around to those who were directly involved and asked to help with Aislin, but I also wanted to make certain to let others know who might have been teetering on the edge of helping or not. I did not want to leave anyone in a lurch:
It is with the deepest regret that I send this message to inform you that the investigative team involved in searching Aislin's cabin and the ship was not able to find any additional clues as to what happened to her. The place was tidy and neat, as though she'd never been there at all. There was no sign of foul play. There were no other leads that we could find. The room held the total absence of anything that would remind anyone of Aislin, and a complete mystery as to what happened to her. The members of the investigative team included myself, Duchess Nicia, Duke Cristoph, Mason, High Inquisitor Alistair, Lady Delilah, Princess Alis, Marquis Fairen, and Prince Victus - and included a number of people with various investigative skills to make sure we did not leave any stone unturned. I want to thank all you who supported the Society of Explorers in the last week and some change. If you have need of anything from the Society, you need only ask. You all have my deepest thanks for your show of support for my dear, dear friend, and I'm certain her family will take heart to know that she was so well loved.
Prince Ainsley found a message from Aislin left in her treehouse, left under a stone with a feather from her bird Nyx: "We should remember fondly those who are lost, but move on; after all, there are bigger things to worry about."
I have also been informed by Duke Harlan that she has left the mantle of leadership of the Society of Explorers in my care as part of her will. I am deeply humbled and hope that I can live up to her expectations.

Willen shows up at Grayson Manor today, wanting to know what he should be working on. Apparently, Aislin had told him to come find me if something ever happened to her. I'm glad for his company, even if it is mostly companionable silence as we work together in the Society Archives, making certain things are kept neat and organized.

I know you are out there somewhere. I promised your sister I'll find you. Somehow. By the Gods. I'll find you.

I am quite pleased that my guard is finally learning how to pick up trails. Unfortunately, it's not my trail. One day, he'll learn between deer tracks and people tracks, I'm sure of it.

The guard you assigned to me will likely be beyond miserable being assigned to me. Just saying. I've had a decided change of heart, and look forward to the challenge of having him accompany me through the swampiest of swamps and see just how well he can climb through shattered ruins to see if he can keep up. Maybe he'll learn a thing or two about history.
Oh! And my mission to the far north in the bitter cold? Brrr. Hope he has warm clothes!

A fire demon attacked Mason yesterday, and completely burned out one of his eyes; many others in the city were hurt as well. Trust me when I say that when I find those responsible, there are no words for what I might do or say. To say that I'm angry is monumental understatement. No supposed guard will be able to stop me.
But, for now, I content myself with being relieved that my husband is alive, and that my daughter still has a father. He is accepting visitors in the House of Solace, though do have a care. He's in a great deal of pain.

I keep forgetting to write this down. Mason managed to surprise me by inviting me to another mission in the north. He hates the cold. Will make sure to pack extra blankets and coats for him.

I survived another trip to Everwinter. More importantly, Mason survived his first journey on a boat and being in cold wilderness, in spite of his many gripes and grumblings in Eurusi. We managed to get the prize we sought, and Lord Tarik now has a piece of his history with him again. I am glad to have been part of this journey, and to have helped toward progress in seeing Arx and all of Arvum a safer place. I can only hope that the others doing their part have been so fortunate.

I attended Mason's art show this week, entitled Freedom. The paintings provoked quite a bit of thought and questioning on the matter of slavery. He's told me that they've raised a goodly sum of money, which will go toward paying down the debts of thralls in Thrax. I'm very proud of him for his work. I also got to meet the infamous Copper, who helped to rescue him. She is a lovely young woman. We've invited her to Safiyya's birthday party, which we'll be hosting in a few weeks time.

Don't think that I didn't see you trying to put yourself in harms way during the siege. A scout has a way of seeing many things at once. Please try to take better care of yourself. You cannot lead armies if you are dead. And, you cannot be a sister if you are dead too. We need you too much in this fight, and I need you to keep me sane during court events!

So, I may have gotten myself a little bit kidnapped, but not quite. I was sent on a scouting mission to get closer to a shav'arvani encampment I reported on. Shard was with me. And, well, I crunched a bit too loudly in the snow and got myself spotted, and then escorted into their camp. Couldn't speak a lick of the language, and after all my years of exploring and running into shavs this is really something I NEED to fix. It'll certainly make communicating if I stumble on them a bit easier. And, maybe learn a bit about stealth. I guess I never really thought much about it before now, since I typically scout out abandoned areas, and go spalunking into ruins.
Needless to say, we were rescued. I'll write more about what happened after our full mission is complete, so as not to risk our progress. What we're doing out here in the Gray Forest is important. So very important. And, if it saves lives, all the better.

Nothing angers me more than those who would destroy such an ancient beauty for the sake of greed, especially a beauty as primordial as the Oriel Woodland / Forest. I bet, in its grandeur, before bandits thoughtlessly stole the treasures that made it what it was, that it was as lush and green as the grove that I took Mason to.
I will have to float an idea past Aiden, to see if we can't find a way to restore the forest.
In the mean time, you can find me on the archery field, working off my anger by shooting targets. The bandits will deserve whatever justice both Petrichor and House Grayson deem fit.

I attended Reese's mock battle last night. It was all great fun, however I'm fairly certain that Luca has held a tight grudge against that one damn arrow finding his ass! For not only did he come after me himself, a warrior against my archery skills, but he instructed the others to come after me as well. He thought me the weak link - but I'm not as weak as he might have guessed.
I am reminded that I need to go to him for weapons training. In the meantime... I wonder what kind of snake... well, no... that'd be punishing Reese and I've no need to do that. Sigh. Maybe frogs in his shoes then...

Last night I was visited by Seraph Ailith in the Society of Explorers hall. We talked about maps and my travels to Everwinter. She had quite a few questions. Sabella arrived soon after we started chatting, to regale us with a new idea for a play based on ancient Grayson explorers. After hearing my tales about Everwinter, she wanted to base it there, and thought young Sparte would make a good leading hero.
Poor Sparte. I had to go soon after. I wonder if Sabella didn't snag him to be her leading man.

I could not find a good time to meet up with Calaudrin for archery lessons as I had hoped, however I was fortunate that Leola Allenatore was available to give me additional lessons. We spent some time this afternoon going over the finer points of the crossbow and practicing. I'm certain Luca will be relieved that I managed to catch some additional training before our patrol tonight.
Or, perhaps, I should say that Luca's back end will be glad for it. Unless, of course, the arrows go awry again tonight should we encounter trouble.

I had a delightful walk with Mason tonight, getting out of the house and enjoying the fresh, clean air that winter brings with it. It is also the New Year, which brings new hope for the future, no matter how grim it might seem.
We ran into the Place Seraph, and briefly discussed the Grayson patrols with her, but given the nature of what was found, decided to table the discussion for later. I've invited to House Grayson to go over the details, seeing as we were both involved in such a patrol.

To the person who insists to everyone else that I be called Princess, in spite of my wishes to be just called Lou, and is going around correcting people and insisting otherwise against my wishes -- //My name is Lou!// That's what I want to be called. It shouldn't insult //you// that's what I've asked other people to call me. It's not about you. Stop getting offended. It's not yours to get offended about. There's a time and place for titles, and if I've told someone they can address me informally, well, that's my decision. Not yours. If you want to discuss the situation, you come to me. Don't reprimand them.
To my family, please don't let me find out that any of you are going around doing this. I might find a snake to put in someone's bed. Or, something worse I find from the woods. Don't make me do this.
Seriously angry,
Lou
