In either case, noble or commoner, these are titles of duties. The only difference is where on the spectrum of servitude you are placed. Whether your scope of personal impact is large, or perhaps your impact is on a smaller, but equally important scope. It is my opinion that all of the subjects of the Compact, from commoner up to the King himself have a responsibility to the greater good of the Compact itself. Nobles who stray from their duties, or commoners who stray from the law threaten to betray that duty and violate this responsibility.
As for your latter question posed, it is my perception that this is indeed the case. From my view point, Commoner and Noble alike have become closer in relation than they naturally would in their home domains.

I think what I find most interesting about the entire situation is, not only how the Prince stands in defense of these Ladies (whether with their consent or not, I'm uncertain), but also how he has edged onto the possibility of insulting our tradition of calling for champions to fight in our stead by implying that Prince Ardoin would possess any less honor for not standing in the ring himself.

Are we really going to provide our valiant defenders with offensive and aggressive questioning before they have even had a chance to return home from war? The Compact is in danger and yet here we have a handful of 'brilliant minds' questioning every move they have made, and are currently making. If your love of the enemy is so great, raise your banner for them instead so we may know your name and cut you down just the same. Proper record of historical events is highly significant to me, but it is a courtesy to provide our heroes, the Defenders of the Compact, at least enough time to conclude the battle, so their wounds may be mended. So their hearts, for watching those who bleed and die around them, has time to recover.

It absolutely confuses me how frequently a Scholar of Vellichor records something to be put into a white journal that is clearly not what the person transcribing their memories intended to have written. What are we teaching these Scholars? Why are they recording the current conversation they are having... About what they are recording? I am at a lose.
