Relationship Note on Joscelin
From : Desk of Lord Fredrik RedTyde
Subject: reply to Miss Joscelin's reply (see earlier this same date).
Light public record browsing upon seeing interesting topics can show a lot about a person!
I am busy a great deal of the time, but I would love to meet as talented a craftswoman as yourself. And who doesn't love scones? Barbarians, that's who.

Relationship Note on Austen
From: The Desk of Lord Fredrik RedTyde
Subject: Joscelin's Bed
Although it is, of course, not even slightly our business who shares the good woman Joscelin's bed? I believe the answer to 'how many does it need to hold' is always..."As many as she wants in it."
Or she just enjoys sprawling out on a massive, well-padded mattress. I know I do, after all.

Relationship Note on Calista
From: The desk of Lord Fredrik RedTyde
Subject: Duchess Calista Fidante
I have met with the Duchess Fidante on multiple occasions, and she has always left me in a more buoyant mood than when I arrived. She is intelligent, vivacious, utterly charming, and leaves a person with rather more questions than answers most of the time when things are discussed.
Which is /exactly/ how it should be.

From: The Desk of Lord Fredrik RedTyde
Subject: explanation of RedTyde and my status
There have been several people who have wondered on my name and status, and I decided that a White Journal writing might help to clear up a few things.
I was born Lord Fredrik RedTyde. I was not born a commoner, but the third son of the RedTyde house, a March under the Tyde banner. When the Tydes rebelled, it was the first casualty of the war. My entire family, along with my wife and three children, were killed. I am, as far as I know, the only true RedTyde left alive. I will not go into the intricate details of why that is, but suffice to say I was on a business family trip when the war began, and have since, for almost two decades, posed as a commoner merchant, because if I had not? I would have been killed.
It was only very recently that I felt reassured in the political environment enough to emerge again, bearing my true title. I am not a 'ward' of the House, I am their Minister of Coin, their advisor, a member of the Silver Consortium, Manager of the Empyrean, student of the Scholars, and many other things besides. I am more than capable, not a pity case, and add daily to my House.
And very soon? I am rebuilding and reclaiming my March, to become Marquis Fredrik RedTyde. This may take months, or longer, it depends on the shape of my lands and how burned they still are from the purge. But it /will/ happen. Pure and simple. I will not let RedTyde fade into memory.
I have the support of Duchess Margot and High Lord Edain in this venture already, and will hopefully receive more aid as I can.
We will not go quietly into the night. My family deserves more than that.

Relationship Note on Edain
High Lord Edain is every inch the righteous and upright man I thought he would be. His offer to assist in the rebuilding of House RedTyde was enough, more than enough, and humbled me in many ways. But his offer of patronage? Of being his protege, as a gesture of the bond between his blood and mine? That touched me to my core, and I cannot repay him for that, even though I will certainly try.
Great-Uncle Viktor would be so very proud of you, I think, Your Grace. Our blood may be a distant connection, but when I think of how it thrives in the veins of Edain and his relatives? It makes me so very hopeful for the future.

Subject: Will and testament
This will be a very short document, for obvious reasons to anyone who knows the RedTyde history. In the event of my untimely (or timely, I am hardly a spring chicken anymore) demise, my possessions are to be distributed as follows:
My silver and writs are to be given to my niece, Duchess Margot Tyde.
My clothing and other Arxian possessions are to be sent to my adopted children (Duchess Margot will know where they are).
My shipping and receiving business will fall to my adopted children. No, they will not be named here, but they will have letters and verification available when they come to claim their property.
See? So very simple, when there are no blood relatives to consider.

Relationship Note on Archeron
From: The desk of Fredrik RedTyde
Subject: The changes of House Thrax
First off, I want to make it very clear that I have nothing but respect for the changes of House Thrax. I believe them to be both in the best interests of the Compact, and in their own as well. I support all of these changes, and am so very glad that the excesses of Donrai have come to an end. I am so happy to be working to rebuild my House in an atmosphere of cooperation and Godliness.
But I was old enough, unlike many here, to very clearly remember Victus' early years. I will not go into the details of his slaughter of my family, some of which I witnessed with my own two eyes. This is the past, and the only reason I even bring it to attention? Because it shows how very easy it is to be manipulated by those in power, like Donrai. how very quick things change, for better or for worse. How it takes only a few bad decisions, so easily excused at the time, to turn into something monstrous. I do not contradict Archeron's words, but add to them.
I do not blame Victus Thrax. I say that again. I do not, at this time, blame Victus Thrax for what occured. But we must remember that eternal vigilance is the price of our freedom. We must never truly relax, because if we do? That's when the Enemy worms their way into our minds again.
Now, I am going to go get a drink, and do a bit of shopping, and enjoy the little things in life. We can't forget that either.

Subject: Answering the missives of inquiring ladies
It is never wise to ignore a lady's missives, especially when she is of good breeding and excellent charm. Or possessed of angry siblings. Or if she knows her way around an apothecary set. Or if she still has a grudge when you answer her and carries a dagger. Or sword.
Just don't ignore Ladies.

Relationship Note on Monique
From: The Desk of Lord Fredrik RedTyde
Subject: Concerning the questions used to get information (as per Lady Monique Greenmarch's entry, of same day)
Context is everything. Oftentimes, most of the details about a person can be observed without asking any questions, especially if you have some time to do it. From there is depends on the person. any and all of the answers already provided could give great benefit, or none at all, depending on who you are asking. All information can be useful, just perhaps not at that time. The two most common ones I will usually ask, however, are:
"What is your story?"
"What is your passion"
These will reveal far more than the person likely intends, especially if you know some of their history already.

Relationship Note on Delilah
From: The Desk of Lord Fredrik RedTyde
Subject: Musings on history, in response to Lady Delilah Whitehawk's journal posting (same day)
I have yet to meet this charming woman in person, but yet she continues to intrigue and amuse me with her insightful entries. And she touches upon something that I have often, as I sit in the depths of a dusty library, or shifting through scattered papers, wondered on. The correctness of our view of history.
You see, I have always seen facts and observations as one might a field of stars. Often, they seem so scattered, arranged in patternless swarms of points that mean nothing. But when one carefully traces them together, and sees the shapes hidden within? Constellations appear. Lovely images that suddenly are filled with meaning and purpose. But as one sits there and looks through their window and peers at the stars?
They realize one is just a speck of dust, glittering in the candlelight. Wipe it away, and the image is gone, or forever changed. How much of what we call history is just a speck of random dust, reflected by our candlelight?
Ah, but if we did not look up, we would not see the stars at all, and wouldn't that be a far, far worse fate than a bit of dust?

Relationship Note on Margot
From: The Desk of Lord Fredrik RedTyde
Subject : Duchess Margot
My niece...My word, it feels so odd to write that out at last, but there it is. The Duchess is my kin through my father's sister, who was her mother, although I had not laid eyes on her in many years. Did she remember my face? Did she remember me holding her in my arms as a wee infant? She was so very calm and quiet, even then, you know. I expect she does not, bit that is of no matter, for I remember.
I also remember hearing news of her as she grew in the care of people who were, until recently, my enemies. Anxiously waiting and hoping against hope. Hearing of her ascension was music to my ears, and I sacrificed an entire consignment opportunity in order to make way to the nearest shrine to give thanks.
And now she is my Duchess, and my liege. One could wonder if that is odd, being her senior in years, but it is far from it. She is every inch the calm, practical ruler that Tyde needs, but with an undercurrent of passions and interests that gives her hidden depths. No shallow and tittering noble, this one. She is precisely what I had hoped she was, and I am proud to serve her, for as long as she will have me.
Even if one of her first overtures of duty was a..Slightly difficult one to bear, as much as I completely understand and support it.

I have been lax in my contribution to the Whites since my arrival, but I shall try to remedy that with a simple set of musings about my first few days in Arx, and the feelings I had pulsing through me.
From: The desk of Lord Fredrik RedTyde
Subject : First day in Arx as Lord RedTyde again
As I set foot from my boat onto the docks of Arx, all seems so very much like I am used to. the flow of seamen to and from the taverns, the laborers loading and unloading cargo as they shout back and forth to each other in clipped, experienced voices. Over there, a docking agent argues with a captain over his manifest. The spray of salty sea. The smell of a thousand scents of different lands. It is all so very familiar. But yet, a single fact is different, and this one thing cascades to affect all my senses, almost overwhelming my precise notion of detail.
I am again Lord Fredrik RedTyde. It has been almost two decades since I was last able to claim that, and I wear the symbol of the Tydes upon my breast proudly. Hear people call me 'my lord' again, sending a thrumming pleasure through me, touched as it is by melancholy at times. For I am the only one to hold that family name now, I think. A forlorn hope exists that perhaps some of my family escaped, but it is a dim hope, all the same. If they did, they were a distant half-blood who is now sensibly living as a fishmonger or trader far far from here. No, I am the last RedTyde.
Gods willing, I will change that. We will build again. This, I swear.
