Magpie loved the cuff, Josie! I do too! Thank you so much for making that for us. Now he's got something to remember me and Pie when we're not with him.
Also, for anyone else needing stuff made, you can't do any better than Josie. I mean Joscelin. She listens to what you say, then makes it up just right. I know I might be a little biased, since we're practically, almost family now, but it's all true!

What a week!
Barely got back from sailing when I was sent off to wrangle some drunks. Reckon I got the short end of that stick, but still, we got them. Then, I started helping Uncle Cal get things at the tower planned out. That's sure gonna be a lot to keep up with, but we'll manage. Then, I barely caught my breath from that before I had to leave town again for a couple of days. That was quiet mostly at least. Then, I barely knocked the dust off before I found Jyri and Kenna trying to drag a body out of the river. That's a whole new mystery to figure out.
Reckon I have so many projects and things to dig into right now that they're starting to spawn their own projects and mysteries. Wouldn't change it for the world though.
But I think when the dust settles, I'm gonna be ready for another sailing trip. Someplace far away. And quiet... definitely quiet.

Relationship Note on Magpie
Well, I've been meaning to write for a bit now, but it's been busy. Figured I ought to squeeze it in though while I could.
Magpie and I adopted an orphan from the Tragedy. Pie's his name, Pie Grayhope. I couldn't be happier either. He's a real good boy. I love reading stories to him, and fortunately, he seems to like me to read them to him too! We've spent lots of time going to the park. Dot really likes him. Reckon she follows him more than she does me these days, but I'm alright with that. I'm teaching her to keep him safe and sound. I'm also teaching him to swim. But I'm pretty sure that he already knew how.
He doesn't wanna talk about his real name yet or if he remembers anything from before he ended up at the Tragedy. But we're not pushing. Someday he might be ready to talk about it and that's soon enough.
In the meantime, there's an awful lot of things going on. Work's keeping me busy. Lots of preparing, investigating, and all kinds of things that all needed to be done yesterday. I've got projects of my own too, but so far nothing's made me happier than Magpie and Pie.
All in all, life's good.

So proud of Saed for getting promoted. If anyone over there deserved it, then it surely had to be him. Can't say enough good things. He is a real good teacher and helped me an awful lot. But I can guarantee that I sure as heck will be watching my p's and q's even more now when he is around (and probably when he isn't too). His stares caused me to hang my head in shame before; I bet they'll be even worse now.

My First Ball
Okay the scholar and I had an argument on whether it should have a title or not. I opted title; he said no. But it's my journal, so there's my title.
Anyway, it was great! I wore a silk gown and slippers for the first time in my life, thanks to Miss Aurora. I even had a necklace to match it thanks to Miss Josephine. They were both so beautiful that I felt bad wearing them, but I did it anyway. Then Kenna fixed up my hair. And I felt pretty. They're all miracle workers.
So there were games. Fun ones too. Trivia which I never sat long enough to fill out a card on, but Aleksei won. He's smarter than me any day from what I've heard about him; so I don't feel bad about that one. Then there was tug of war and my team lost. I'm blaming the man in the mask for it... for reasons. It had nothing to do with me being in a dress and nearly falling over the hem of it. We had one noble sneak in early on but she got pied real good. There was another too but I'll get to that.
Then there was a contest for best dressed. This one goes all to Miss Aurora and Miss Josephine because I won. But that's their credit, not mine! I'm just glad I didn't do something really embarrassing, especially since Saed was there. I was very careful to mind my p's and q's around him. Never slurred a single word!
That's where the warm fuzzy part ends, and the man in the mask picks up. Because thanks to him, I never got a chance to top off that entire night with my first dance at my first ball seeing as how he stuck Magpie's face in a pile of pie. Pie, that I note, was there for the high lord that snuck into the ball! Someday, I might let him live that down, but I want it on the record that it won't be today.

What a week. I haven't had a chance to write much in a while. Figure I ought to catch up.
I love kids, especially orphans. Spending time at the Tragedy's been part of my daily routine for a long time. I grew up there. Been an orphan as long as I can remember. I was told that my parents worked there when I was a baby though. It's just been part of my life for a long time. Reckon helping there is my way of giving back. Same reason that I help the Knights of Solace.
Then I started a project to try and get things more organized. Helps the orphans not just at the Tragedy, but at a bunch of the orphanages. It's been a lot of work, but worth every bit of it. Seeing all their faces, smiling and happy, and spending time with them makes it worth it to me.
So all that happened at the Tragedy is hard to deal with. Hard to accept. Real hard. I grew up knowing Brother Martin too. Gonna miss him.
But there hasn't been time to even think on it. Magpie is the best. He let us put all of them up at the Murder. Whether he did it for me or for Thena, who knows. I reckon it's a bit of both. Either way I'm real grateful. So, between Sir Daemon and I, we've been dealing with the kids non-stop for days. Chaos doesn't start to descripe each and every day. Don't think I've slept more than a few hours here or there. And lots of other people have been helping too (even Magpie and Mayir though they've needed a little coaching on tending kids... such as not giving them beer or teaching them to play poker). All of the people that have helped deserve a big thanks. So, thank you!
Then I heard last night that things wrapped up on my project. Haven't even had time to think about it this week. Can't say how happy I am that it went off so well. For all those that helped with it, I'm real grateful. Can't think of better people than the Iron Guard or the Knights of Solace. I'm proud to work with them.
At some point all of this is gonna come crashing down on my heart and I'll have a good cry or maybe just get really drunk well away from kids someplace. But I'll deal with that when it comes.

Well I have seen you fight and it was pretty scary. But you really ought to consider the flower and animal decorations that Sir Daemon is sporting on his armor. I'm sure the kids would be glad to color yours for you too!
