Relationship Note on Mirari
Subject : Champion Status?
I admit to some confusion, Mistress Mirari. Before the duel, you stated quite clearly that you were not a Champion and had no intention of becoming one. And yet I can see your name on their lists, so are you officially a Champion? Feel free to messenger me (or ignore me, it is your choice), I merely am curious, for many reasons.

Subject: Age
It is rare that I feel old. Oh certainly, I feel that I am not eighteen anymore, and although I am more than able to do most things with energy and grace still, I can tell it is not with the vigor I used to have. But it is a small enough difference that I rarely feel 'old.'
But today is an exception.

Subject: Acceptable Lying
Is it ever acceptable? Well, that is a very difficult question, because what is socially acceptable changes throughout history. For example, before a few weeks ago it was socially acceptable for a shaman to work as a Mercy, provided they venerated Lagoma. This is not to comment on the Dominus' edict or it's righteousness, merely to show that what is acceptable changes often, and that includes what it is acceptable to omit or lie about. Without the lie of omission, one is asked to answer challenges, be lambasted in the Whites, or even be persecuted, depending on the strength of that which they hold in different view from the social norm. But while I can waggle my hand at the acceptability of it socially, when it comes to it being /necessary/?
Yes. Sometimes it is absolutely necessary. A lie kept me alive for almost twenty years while my family was hunted down and killed. Whether we deserved it or not is immaterial for this discussion, because the point stands that if I had not lied to the Thrax, and to anyone else that asked during those years? I would have been murdered in a brutal fashion, and most likely my adopted ones and my crew would have been as well. So yes, sometimes it is absolutely necessary, even if not acceptable.
An extreme example, I admit it, but it is the one I have, even if I know almost nobody will have to be put in those extremes and thus it is not relevant to them.

Subject: unfortunate choices
In my many years of trying to restore my family name and survive to do it, I have many times been dismayed, but this...This may take the top.
I have recently learned that about half of what was once RedTyde lands is in the hands of a Thraxian County under Kennex, which is enough for pause. Obviously, I would never make a move against a legitimate noble family or their holdings under most circumstances, but the fact they hold my ancestral halls as part of their lands makes is cause for...Well as I said, a pause and a bit of the drink. Because of course, they won it by conquest, and Thraxian decree of long ago.
That is not excellent. I have also learned that half of my former lands are Abandoned. Even worse, they are Abandoned who were formally distant relatives of mine, who have gone feral and left the compact to wage a war against the local Kennex county. Not an overly large war, skirmishes and the like, but unfortunately for the county, enough that half my former lands belong to nobody. So to take back that which is mine, I will have to kill, or make bow, former relatives of a sort.
This calls for a drink. Or several. No more planning tonight.

Although I am unable to attend due to duties and meetings, I am sending along a fruit and cheese platter and a couple bottles of my finest rum for all who do wish to enjoy this. Not to diminish the gravity of the situation at all, of course. But the flurry of back and forths and heated discussions? Excellent, in many ways. Absolutely terrible in others.

Subject: Clarification
I am not a religious scholar, and while I love the Gods as much as most Islanders, and consider myself their servant, I do not dedicate nearly the time or attention that those of the church do to parsing religious matters, so I ask this earnest question in hopes of clarification.
In your Journal post (see post by Orazio of this same date), you said that it was an 'unfortunate trend' of recent years to induct Shav tribes while allowing to them to 'keep their own religions'. Those religions are, by and large, Shamanism. Which, in the North where many of these recent inductions have occured, is, as you say later in your own journal, completely within the bounds of the treaty with the North. Can you reconcile this for me? Are they allowed to keep their faith, or are they not? I understand that they must, of course, recognize Limerance due to swearing an oath on such, as well as recognizing the faith and traditions of the Compact, but this seems something of a contradiction on the surface.
Now of course, if you merely meant that Prodigals are being accepted without being told anything about the Faith of the Compact? Then of course, that is a very valid point, all who bend the knee should be instructed on this and the other salient points of joining with our august coalition.

The tag reads 'Prince Biscuit'. That is...Adorable, actually. This dog is already wet, and right after I let him down to write this journal, he promptly attempted to leap overboard and swim in the ocean. Of course, had to put a stop to that because it's a bit of a fall from the window of my cabin, but after I put this into the records, I'll let him go to the beach to satisfy him. This dog is clearly Thraxian, are we sure that it came from Prince Ainsley?
Who I thank for this very generous gift.

Subject: marriage potential and opinions
I will not name names in here, because honestly, I do not find the unsolicited opinion of one or two nobles worth that level of pursuit or vehemence. But to clarify my position here?
Who I determine to pursue as a political marriage, which is first and foremost a /political/ arrangement between two Houses? Is nobody's business. If those House Heads and the parties involve agree to the arrangement, formal or not? Then it is nobody's business but theirs. I applaud all those marrying for love, and I hope that I may, one day, share this honor, but that is not the foremost purpose of political marriage, in many cases. If you have an issue with it, please do go ahead and write the marquis, duke, duchess, high lord, or whoever else may be involved and inform them of your opinion, and I will be delighted to hear the response. Until then I will, without the ardent hormonal urge that seems to drive many, pursue a match that it best for myself, my House, and my Liege.

Subject: Whisper's Words
As the good Whispers Bliss and Lumen (and Archlectors Aureth in his own style) have noted, we are not in competition with the Whispers, and never have been. To do so is to add unnecessary tension to an amiable situation, as far as I can see. They have been most gracious and from my readings, accurate in their descriptions, and I thank them for it. We appreciate all they do to grace our establishment with their own presence, and encourage all to mingle in the Empyrean free of stress. That is the point, after all.

Subject: Countess Reigna
I also want it noted that Countess Reigna is well within her rights to question the Empyrean, as an unknown arrival that does, at first blush, cast worrying duplication of service. These are her opinions, and as the Countess has a keen mind and fine wit, I invite her to place them out here, and of course to contact myself or Lady Iseulet for questions. Let this never become a place for browbeating, but for honest questions and answers, as well as lively debate (and of course poems, random thoughts, and the other lovely things people place in the Whites).

Subject: The Empyrean
I will leave the finer points of debate about services, competition, and the like to other minds. I will only offer a couple small points in reply to the Countess Reigna.
We invite, and have, Whispers who will be performing at the Empyrean. The Empyrean harbours no ill will or desire to destroy or compete with the Whispers in its business model, and if it becomes apparent that is occuring? It will change.
I do not, nor will I ever, receive any salary or compensation from the Empyrean of any substantial amount, or indeed of any amount I can forsee.
I do not own the Empyrean. I help to run it, and do so for no cost, and no benefit other than the opportunity to see the many faces of other fine people of Arx.
I will let Lady Iseulet speak for herself and the Empyrean at large, of course, but I do hope that this helps to alleviate any concerns that one might have about my own personage. I enjoy silver as much as the next person, and as much as I will be needing a veritable mountain of it to rebuild my home? I will not be getting it from formal work at the Empyrean.

Oh, deluding one's self is easy! I could do that until I am walking with a cane and barely able to think or see straight. And while it is true that my calves are not thick as iron cables anymore, and my stomach not nearly as defined? The baker who I receive the scones from seems pleased at the business, so perhaps I have simply not reached there yet.
And I do say 'yet'. One can only delude themselves so much, in my case.
