All this research and transcribing may not be making me smarter, but I am becoming more knowledgeable. I have learned much of Lord Vellichor's service, and almost as much of the other dozen. Not to mention bucketloads of tidbits about The Compact and the world. I am beginning some planning to spread knowledge with those who are interested. The main concept is to enhance the missions of those Scholars who feel called to outreach teaching, but I am also interested in new schools and in enhancing existing locations. Now, for students. The reason I like the traveling missionary-style is that the teachers can go to where a student is expressing interest or need, making it more likely the knowledge will be accessed and used. Lord Vellichor tasked us with ensure the knowledge survives and grows. I intend to aid that cause to succeed.

The new role of Prelate is sitting more comfortably this week. Just Brother Aelgar with a few more chores, a few more duties, nothing special to see here, folks.
I am involved in many new discussions due to the role, though, and some have been deeply thought-provoking. In particular, these have helped me clarify my thoughts on my mission withing The Scholars and within the Faith as a whole. An excellent example of this occurred yesterday with Father Vayne when I was asked about this mission and my interests:
According to historic accounts, during the Reckoning Lord Vellichor returned to humanity knowledge thought forever lost. The knowledge was needed to prevent human enslavement in darkness and the god said he hoped humanity would never know what this move had cost him.
I ask, if the god had considered this gift worthy of a high price, if He had considered humanity worthy of carrying this duty, then how can we shirk the task? It would be the depths of ungrateful cowardliness to reject the burden placed with us. According to the histories, He asked that the most studious of us guard the knowledge and that all among us contribute our knowledge to the whole.
I feel that we are each capable of not only contributing, but if carrying and guarding, each to their own capability. I feel that spreading the knowledge amongst all of humanity not only makes it safer through dissemination, but also meets a key corollary: Knowledge on a shelf is a potential benefit for humanity, but knowledge placed into a human mind is a living active benefit.

Busier nowadays. Spending time in the Archive working on my project and teaching newer Scholars. Still drumming up support for the new ships and looking forward to discussing concepts and goals with the more experienced senior Scholars. So many thoughts and directions, but I know the dust will settle as time passes. The Archives run smoothly and many outreach efforts of the organization continue to support the Compact and the betterment of humanity. This actually leaves me a little time for personal goals, so I managed to get thumped quite soundly by Ian on the training grounds, hopefully making me a little smarter with this fancy new axe!

Mother Bianca has asked me to help with some of the interim duties that are hanging because the Archscholar position is empty. I have been promoted to Prelate and given leave to speak for the Scholars and to orient new candidates, as well as handle a myriad of lesser duties. I will be working closely with the Legate and others to ensure this goes smoothly and that Lord Vellichor's service continues uninterrupted. As well, I have begin focusing my research to verify various historical accounts so that the final volume will be accurate and dependable and well cross-reference. All of this, plus the seagoing projects and the inter-shrine orientation, makes me a very busy man. all of a sudden.

I am speaking with the Faith leadership about taking up more responsibility amongst the Scholars. This is not motivated by a desire to be more important or powerful. If it were, I would question myself for a very long time. I need to learn more of how things work and I want to learn more about how I can be an instrument of Their will. I feel I need to explore this even though my own preference would be to bury myself in my stidies--in spite of that, really. Because of that. I have to burn away my own wants. Best to do this my pushing my comfort zone.

I have firmed up plans to obtain one of the new ships when we perfect them I expect that it may prove of value to the Faith in many ways, not the least of which is having the ability to convey our agents to distant locations in a timely manner.
I have also spoken with His Holiness on matters of the vacant Archscholar post and conveyed my willingness to help with whatever assistance I can provide. It is likely not much of the extra load He has to carry right now, but hopefully I will be more of a help than a hindrance. I will still have time to pursue my projects.
I have so much to learn and so little time. Plus I need to strengthen myself physically for the rigors of trail and conflict. But I am making headway and I will persevere until I reach the goals that need reaching. Or until I am stopped from reaching them. Lord Vellichor will guide me when I am worthy.

I met the Dominus! He expressed condolences for the loss of Archscholar Sina, and that tragedy is still felt as something very personal even after all this time. She was insightful and supportive, experienced and wise. In my short audience with His Holiness, I found someone just as impressive. He will see me back again, helping with questions and growth. He also seems to approve of my history project, or to at least support its potential to add value to the Archives, and so I will proceed yet another week.
We met for Sister Giada's new ship design project yesterday, too. There is a broad plan to move ahead with a new sail plan that may allow us to outrun most of the ships currently afloat, should it see fulfillment. I will enjoy this one and, if it works, I will captain one myself.
We also continue to move ahead with our intershrine relations project. The Dominus asked me if I had ambition within the Faith. If I do, it is divided between the Archives and doing what I can to make the Faith stronger through more unification.

Received a hard lesson yesterday from Lord Teague in the use of medium arms. That man is huge and he knows his trade. On the training grounds, he pounded me down with a training axe, alternating teaching pointers with demonstrations that eventually left me with more skill but also a bug headache. A test of my commitment, but necessary if I am called more lawless regions for research or healing services. I may never be a knight, but I can at least strive to be a tough bite to chew for some bandit. Or worse.
Studies with Legate Bianca continue. Lessons on the Burning are especially hard to stomach, the indignity, the sacrilege and the sheer horrifying shock of all the knowledge lost make these hard to pursue. I persevere, however, and feel that much more committed to Lord Vellichor's Purpose and Service every time I swallow another one.

Legate Bianca has taken my training in hand, a priceless boon to an unimportant Scholar like me. She has helped me to learn how to better use the Archives and she has begun a series of historical lectures that will aid my research project as well as my knowledge in general. I am also continuing to work closely with Giada in a few different ways touching on the Physicians and the catastrophe to the east. FInally, I am seeking assistance from Kaia on the matter of learning travel survival from the Explorers.

We have made progress in the rescue project, arranging for more support from various sources. I have a promise of an appointment with Archlector Sina and she has also forwarded volunteer names of those willing to assist Giada and my project to further inter-temple familiarity. There is also help coming from other sources and the network is expanding weekly.

I would record this in honor of Vellichor so that whatever small contribution I am making to the archives is not lost should I be unexpectedly lost. It is said that during the Reckoning, the god saved humanity by providing us with histories. He tasked us with protecting those histories. I will add my small part to this effort with this project.
My recent studies have revolved around history. Research is via both reading and interviews with others of knowledge. The compiling of perspectives and facts is time-consuming, but very interesting. Perhaps I will one day write my own ambitious index to human history.
Other than the studies, I have joined the Physicians in order to offer my skills to those in need, including the war efforts and the rescue operation headed east in response to the Eurusi cataclysm issue. As well, I am training pets here and there, and staying fit by advancing my spearplay.

I am here almost two years, now, and I think I have a good handle on the layout of the city and the surrounding countryside. Good, but not great. The political scene is harder as I keep wandering down side trails. I have recently been spending more time with that trader, Giada Morello, now Sister Giada, and she has helped me learned a lot about the local scene. I helped build a hospital back home as well, and I am starting to expand my knowledge of the Faith in general and the Thirteenth in particular. It has not been a bad stay to date and I can hope it continues to go well, especially with Giada.

Arx is huge for a human place. Not like the ocean, but in the manner that an ant colony with a knee-high hill and endless streams of the insects can seem huge. I have wandered and explored with Griz for weeks now. Found a talented trader to help me invest my small purse, a skilled weaponsmith to make a spear and renouned leatherworker to create a suit fit for travel and protection. An Iron Guardswoman has helped me learn the streets, a stealthy and suspicious young man the Lower Burroughs, and many fellow Scholars and kindred spirits from whom to gather information. So much to learn. I recently annoyed an Archlechtor inadvertently by not recognizing her, so my new project is to learn the local power tree and political environment. I am also joining the Explorers for chances to explore and study further afield.
Please note that the scholars may take some time preparing your journal for others to read.
