Lyrics, lyrics. I have a song or, being honest here, several songs that are just vague ideas drifting around in my thoughts. One of the pure music ones is disquieting to hear, picking up the mood of a painting of Lord Sebastian's called 'The Lady and the Spiders' or perhaps the Giant Skull that Duchess Calypso has, or the horrible tales of those strange attacks killing people lately. It is not going to be easy to play, and not easy to hear but is still music, creative. And then there are the incomplete songs with words that all seem to focus on lost loves, of grief and sorrow, or a poignant parting between family. Perhaps that is only to be expected in light of some of the current events. Those usually aren't what people want to hear though they may be satisfying to my own ear and purge my thoughts of them to move on to something more pleasant. I think will ask my cousin Lady Amarantha to help me, we used to collaborate on songs before she married out of the family.

Ow. Spars hurt. They hurt even more so when it is a cousin who administers a trouncing so skillfully. Best I can say is I was able to dodge and parry her blows long enough that she started to tire and even scratched her a time or two with the tip of the dagger. Maybe next time I will fare better against Princess Astraea.

Relationship Note on Astraea

I've missed seeing my cousin the years she has been gone. It is good to have her back near family and I wonder what changes her time up north have made in her. When we used to play 'Lady Manners' she would always win, but she was still fun to be around.

Relationship Note on Amarantha

Watch out Arx, my cousin Amarantha has arrived. There are going to be 'interesting' times ahead for those who have the pleasure of meeting her. She loves music 'almost' as much as me.

Hmmm, a mention of a possible gift of an amusing painting was made at our family dinner. The witty comments concerning hanging it above the clavichord and the type of painting to hang were most likely a social nicety, but still they were spoken and we smiled in enjoyment of the humor. Despite the fact that acoustics in the Great Hall far corner are superior than acoustics along the side wall, we're having the clavichord moved so centered on the side wall, just in case. That way if a painting gift arrives, it can be prominently displayed above the clavichord, and if it does not arrive, the position of the instrument will still bring the gift of warm memories of family, friendships, and smiles.

Archlector Madeleine would have been surprised to see how many people visited the shrine today. Seemed to be a constant flow of people praying and meditating while I was there.

Relationship Note on Marcos

Estaban's cousin is quickly becoming a friend. We've spent long hours in conversation during the time was helping Marcos tend to Estaban's burns on hands, arms, and back. He has a confident but competent and gentle way of dealing with wounds and keeping me busy enough that the 'ick' factors did not lead to losing my lunch or my composure too badly. Will be glad to claim him as another cousin when I join the Saik family.

Relationship Note on Estaban

Burns are terrible things, especially with both hands, arms, and back are bandaged and painful. I hope the children that were saved from the burning building will never forget the courage and ordeal the men who rescued them went through for their sake and know their lives mattered to others.

Note: Stubborn man, so many messages and suffering with each word written. If there is ever a time both hands are bandaged up so much again, just have them visit and talk.

Let no good deed go unpunished? The thought used to amuse me, good deeds should have their own reward in at least the satisfaction they generated. Now I've acquired a too-true understanding of that saying.

Relationship Note on Luis

You do know, don't you, that our dear sister is going to find out one day you borrowed that little sail she was sending for repairs to use for a beach blanket, yes? At least it has no new damage, just some sand stuck to it, maybe a little wine stain here and there, some seaweed mushed into one corner, but perhaps it will never be noticed.

Relationship Note on Alaric

Oh, my! Music, wine, ventilated dresses, mischief plotting, weddings, moon-lit events, such a variety of topics amid a variety of people! The King has gotten to know me well enough to tease me, what fun! (I wonder if Estaban is considering eloping or something private yet.)

Relationship Note on Agnarr

Agnarr turned out to be a surprise, a pleasant one. At near seven feet tall and a huge size, a reputation as a fierce fighter, he can be rather intimidating, yet he showed dry humor (at least it sounded enough like humor that I smiled) and gently took the time to show me how to use a small weapon to block a blow with less risk of getting my hand lopped off. I could tell he was holding back, which was appreciated, since as the instruction progressed with speed and strength, any harder a blow would have left me sprawled in the dirt at his feet.

Relationship Note on Madeleine

Archlector Madeleine, or Maddy as she asked to be called, seems to have an ever-present smile, is kindly and supportive. She is good company and has a lovely way of speaking of the winds and waters of Mangata.

Yesterday I spent time in the Shrines of nature, Lagoma, Mangata and Petichor. Archlector Madeleine and I spoke for some time of wind and waves, of inspiration. At the shrine of Lagoma Fortunato sat painting so close to the fire that his canvas was singed and it was a wonder he did did not get singed as well. He is an interesting man, seems to paint the way I improvise music, from his thoughts and surroundings, and yet can be so serious when speaking of worries and changes. Sometimes after a cycle of visiting each shrine it seems like a bit of insight or understanding has been gained, a learning process.

Relationship Note on Valencia

We've known each other since the day after arrived in Arx. She's grown from being just a charming hostess at the Hart to someone I love spending time with, sharing gossip, watching the antics of others and relaxing or unwinding after a busy day together.

While not a large crowd at the picnic, it was a congenial one. The children's choir led by Missere Magpie was delightful, both in reminding us of the simple joys of childhood, mischievously playing in the reflecting pool, swinging, hiding and exploring areas new to them, and in the songs they sang.
Prince Aiden was amazing when he was kind enough to share his skillful playing of the clavichord with us.
People seemed to enjoy the 'Last One Dancing' game. Lady Lethe was nimble, matching step for step with Prince Aiden and Lord Estaban until near the end, Lord Estaban the final winner. Lord Corban and Lady Monique, Lord Sebastian all caught onto the steps quite well while Lord Ian and Marquessa Quenia enjoyed watching. I was really glad to see each of them.

Relationship Note on Jaenelle

One can only admire her agile mind and the scope of details she adeptly handles in her position as minister. I learn a lot just from listening to her talk and enjoy those conversations that veer away into amusing stories of family and events. I'm glad to have gotten to know her. (Note to self: She likes rum.)
