The baby came! And wouldn't you know it, she came while I was out on patrol. By the time the message found me and I got home, Mom and baby were sleeping peacefully. So I didn't get to hold her yet. I can hardly wait! She's so tiny and beautiful.

I found a gray hair last night. I'm way too damned young for gray hair. I think I'm gonna blame Magpie and Pie. Though, I reckon Kenna and Josie might also be possible culprits.
In truth, I am a guard and a soldier. I've seen too much crap that would give anyone gray hair. But none of that is as much fun.
I tied the hair around Magpie's finger in a pretty little bow while he was sleeping. I had to get up early to head out for an early patrol though, so I wasn't there when he woke up. I wonder if he noticed.

Cinnamon! Who would have ever thought... yet still he did it. I swore to kick his arse if he did something stupid. This was pretty stupid... but I had pity on him this time. I find it real hard to get mad at him, and I did know what I was getting into when I fell in love with him.
At least it wasn't something worse. Wonder if he learned a lesson?

Not sure what's up with Pie lately. He's been getting in more and more trouble the last month or so. Reckon it's just a phase. I've been trying to remember what all I did at his age. Somehow that makes it seem not so bad... I was far worse.
I really think it's just because he gets bored with his lessons. Maybe I oughta try to find more to challenge him with. Wonder what he'd think about some fighting lessons. Might at least burn off some of his energy.

Who ever knew that I'd like sailing so much. But I do. There's a freedom to it that I always sorta wanted, but never really knew how to get. The wind in your hair, way up high in the crow's nest, seeing the water all around you as far as you can see in any direction. It feels so wide open and like I could go anywhere.
Then there's the crew. I don't mind pitching in and working right alongside them, but when things get rough, then my knowledge just isn't up to speed yet. So I do what I can. I make them coffee. I bring them warm blankets. I give them a tiny bit of respite here and there, just so they can keep on going to pull us through safely. Dunno if they really like it or not, but either way, at least it makes me feel useful.
Don't get me wrong. I love Arx. It's my home and my city. Never lived anywhere else. There's times when the narrow streets and tight alleys and buildings all around call to me just as much. Plus I have family here now, who have wormed their way into my heart real fast. Wouldn't miss being here when Josie's lil one is born, for sure!
So, I reckon it's a balance and I'm just fine with it that way. It's good to be home.

Folks fight for a lot of things. I fought to protect the city and to keep the family and friends I care about safe and sound. Nothing real surprising in that, I'm sure. I'm sad for the folks we lost. But I'm also real glad for the ones that made it back.
I'm also happy that Uncle Cal, Kenna and Godric all came back in one piece with me. It was an honor to fight alongside all of you, and I'd do it again whenever any of you need me.
But now I reckon that I'm taking a little time to spend with my family. Think we've earned some time away. So I'll be off sailing for a few days with Magpie and Pie. Can't think of anything I'd rather be doing right now, honestly.

Relationship Note on Daemon
We lost too many good folks out at the Lodge. But I have to say that Sir Daemon's passing took me real hard. I thought he'd made it. I thought he was gonna be okay, up until he wasn't.
He was a real special sort. One of the ones that made me think that knights might be more than shiny and irritating. I'll always remember him sitting at the Murder with me, letting kids color his armor and being so patient that it was amazing. He's helped me with a lot of the work that I've done for the orphans too.
I promise that I'll help keep things clean as much as I can, too, just for him. Cause I know he wouldn't have it any other way.

I'm real proud of you, Jyri. Never thought I'd hear you talking about painting either (unless it was a building or a wall or something) and I agree that it's amazing. I love the painting you did for Magpie and me. It's beautiful!

Relationship Note on Magpie
Had to find a few more minutes to swing by for another entry. Zavi came to find me out at the tower earlier with a package. Much to my surprise, Magpie had a new sword made for me by Hana. I think maybe he's starting to get a little worried, or maybe just missing me. Either way it's one of the most beautiful things I've ever owned, along with the ring he gave me. I can't thank him or Hana enough.
I'll do my best to make sure that my friends and family and I all survive the upcoming battles. We've already lost enough. This helps my chances more than a little I hope!
I have no regrets. And I'm ready to get home to him and to Pie.

I'm back in Arx for a few hours, so I'm stealing a few minutes just to record a few thoughts. So much is happening at the Lodge now. Everything is building and I know soon our time will come when we face some of what we are hearing about in the reports. I can't say that I'm ready. Not sure I ever will be, but I'll do my best.
I do know that I'm ready to spend time with my family again, more than a few quick hours here and there. I just hope we don't lose many more people in this. That's been the hardest thing to deal with so far in the reports coming in, I gotta admit.
I think I'll go spend some time at some of the shrines while I'm back, too.

I miss sleep. With all that's going on at the Lodge, I get a few, short hours in between to lay my head down and see Magpie and Pie. When I do finally get to sleep, then it's full of nightmares.
I gotta agree with my Partner, though. I know the simple truth is that we're going back; because she will and I'll be there to protect her, if at all possible. And we'll be more ready next time. But I'm in no hurry to get on with it.
Being able to sleep through the night first would be nice.
