Relationship Note on Daemon
With the sudden talk of proteges happening around the city recently, I began to think of my protege (whom I would argue is the best protege). I realized that we have now shared this relationship for more than a year. I hope Sir Daemon forgives me this slip - I really should have done something on the date of the anniversary. That said, I look forward to many more years as his patron.

Ah, but our hearts. I think, perhaps, because we champion and we fight, we open our whole beings to the world. We embrace the fighting, the blood, the pain, so that another might not suffer so harshly. We face the thousands to save thousands. We take on their fear and their nightmares as our own burdens. It is, perhaps, as much of being a knight as swearing the oaths. It is living the oaths.
I was not at Stormwall, or even Setarco, and I know I can never ever feel, see, or truly understand what was faced there. I am sorry the shadows still linger on your heart and thoughts. I hope time will not so much fade the memory, but soften the hurt if even just a little bit.
If it means anything, I think you are strong enough and believe in you.

While I do not often use the white journals as a means of communication to others, I am making an exception in this case: I will indeed accept hugs from you. I may even be persuaded into giving you hugs. After all (please pay attention to the following statement, Theron), we do still take our morning walks, even if they have become you power-walking far, far ahead of me and then politely waiting for me to catch up after so many leagues.

I can say that you're always welcome to stop by the manor should you find yourself in need of a crisp high five. Rain or shine, awake or asleep, call upon me and I will answer. Should she be chosen by the the Faith, she could become Mother Thena if ascended to Legate someday. So it's always possible. Just not a physical mother, alas. Our devotion must be to all our children in the Faith equally.

I was not aware until now that my protege is a masochist. At first, I had merely thought his giving into the temptation of sweets was an indicator of a weak will before the nefarious ingredient: sugar. Something that I could tackle, could work with him on, until such a time as he saw a tray of cookies, a whole cake or pie, and say, "No!" How foolish was I! Sir Daemon has plenty of will. He simply chooses to defy it so that he might endure the pain that comes after the momentary bliss. One cannot train this away, no matter how many morning walks one takes or how many lectures are heard concerning proper eating.
I am still uncertain how I feel about this revelation. So long as he remains in fighting trim, then I suppose that's all that matters.
Of course, it is also entirely his choice to eat whatever he damned well pleases.
