When Crownbreaker occured, the Faith were killed. And in that moment of weakness, a false Dominus elected because we could not resist the pressure. That is a past the Templars will never see repeated, never again allow us to fall to outside pressure. That said, it does not mean we should reject ideas just because they come outside, or not to listen to voices from outside the faith. We should consider all those things. But, we must find solutions that first work for the Faith and the Faithful. And show those temporal powers what friendship with us can mean.

Relationship Note on Orazio
So Father Orazio has decided to make changes to the 4th Law of Limerance. I cannot say I agree - and I worry that the quick method may have repercussions for the Faith. But. I am a simple Templar and he is a legate, and his wisdom has often proved greater than mine. I trust in the Gods to guide us, and I pray that people still act with caution and calmness.

Faith is slavery? If you wish slavery, imagine a world without the Faith. Locked inside our own minds and self interests. Beholden only to temporal powers. Imagine a world where the roads are no longer kept free by the work of the Knights of Solace. Imagine a world where Templars are not there to hold the enemies of the faithful at bay and deal with the abandoned tribes and other dangers. Imagine a world where people die of want because there are no mercies to provide for them. Imagine a world where our memories flit away, unknown with no scholars to record them. Imagine the lands, untamed and unusable, trapping us within our cities because there is no lodge of petrichor to care and tend to it. And I could go on.
Faith, and The Faith, have done more to lift our eyes from the mud and to the horizon than anything. They have opened us to whole new understandings. And even ignoring the spiritual, the stability the Faith has given allows for the Compact. Our guardianship of our customs, our history, our tradition has allowed us to endure even when the world wants to crush us. To see life as slavery is to revel in death as freedom. And that I will not do.

Relationship Note on Reese
Once again it seems I found myself in debt to Princess Reese. When I was hit in the first bouts of combat at Maelstrom, quite severely in fact, Reese moved to protect me and allow me to continue the fight. Useful given the limited retreat options.

Well. Trebuchets were useful. That will show Orazio that sometimes they are solutions to problems. The downside is that what we faced at Maelstrom managed to rend through my armour. Were it not for Reese, I would have fallen never to rise again. Perhaps I should consider saving up for more advanced armour. Still, I am attached to my old set. I have sent it to our armourers for repairs now we are back in the city and Maelstrom is saved.

Certainly an astute diplomat, Calarian also seems to know some of his own limitations which is very good in a ruler. He seems devout and hopefully we can work together more in future.

The prodigal is quite interesting - despite my disagreements with her, I think she was one of the few on this mission who understood the cost that would be born in achieving this. She also has done a great job as a warrior. Being good when there are no consequences for that choice is easy. But being good when it hurts you? When it tears at you? That is when you truly show your colours, what kind of person you are.

The Faith is happy to help this mission to the Gray Forest - the Templars are happy to help - but I worry about the consequences and whether people will feel as good after. Once we have spoken to the tribes of the Abandoned, once we have convinced all who can be to join with us, once all that is left are those working for our enemies or those who do not see them as a threat and so will soon fall....
These problems are for after the mission, but we will need to consider how we approach the Abandoned who remain after.

I find myself enjoying the company of the palace Seraph - her background is similar enough to mine, and there is none of the pomposity one can find at times. She certainly seems devoted to the faith, and to her work. She hosted a very enjoyable evening that got the Faith talking to one another, and also inadvertently led to Preston meeting the king. And she is sharp, that is to be respected.

The gathering of the Faith was interesting. Though, I cannot help but wonder at the topics raised - aside from whether Father Orazio looked snazzy in his robes. I know the Templars are conservatives, but are we so out of step with our brothers of the faith? Does that make us wrong or just different? These are hard questions to ponder.

Leona is an interesting person - she holds high position as Lord Commander of the King's Own, but she also does not seem egotistical or precious of this. She also hungers for that simplicity that Preston desires, even if they disagree. She is someone Preston feels he can work with, and he values her wisdom - at times perhaps more than he even values the wisdom of some in the faith.
