Please no one die at least until tomorrow. I need to clean the Chamber of Stillness on account of reasons.

Relationship Note on Calaudrin

I bought Calaudrin a breakfast sandwich because it was funny, or because I was concerned (reader's choice), but I draw the line at stringed instruments.

If we are to write, for the Vellichorian record, what we have _not_ dreamed about recently, I will share the following tidibts that I haven't dreamed about lately:

- A beautiful naked woman rubbing me down with fragrant oils;
- A beautiful naked man rubbing me down with fragrant oils;
- A host of spiders cleaning my room;
- Salad fights;
- Giant rats;
- Skeletons taking apart the Murder of Crows piece by piece and proceeding to use the furniture from inside to build a fort.

Though I have occasionally dreamed about officiating at a last minute wedding without any pants on.

Relationship Note on Edward

I will be happy to educate the public on what I know of the subject of that knowledge which is no longer forbidden.

My rates as an instructor on many topics are quite reasonable.

Facetious though your remarks seem to be, any halfway educated occultist can tell you that magic comes in kinds, however, and that not all of them are inherently evil. This is a great step forward against the forces of ignorance.

Someone says that slavery is bad:

The Archive explodes in a riot of paper over the controversy!

The Faith of the Pantheon updates the Laws of Limerance to no longer outlaw magic that is not aligned with the Abyss:

One or two people write vaguely approving journals. Business continues as usual.

I love this city, I really do. I was born here, you know.

I'm making a note to ask Brother Gregory to begin tomorrow morning by, instead of performing chandelier duty at the shrine, delivering a hot sausage on a crusty loaf and a jug of fresh brewed coffee to Lieutenant Calaudrin Estardes of the Iron Guard.

I'm concerned he isn't taking good care of himself.

When a bear blunders into your camp, in my experience, the Knights of Solace are on hand to drive it off before it extinguishes the fire with its stinking piss or knocks over the porridge pot with the whole camp's breakfast in it.

I enjoy metaphors as much as the next fellow but I mean really. Bears? Assholes.

I have been in a forest camp twice in my life, I know these things.

Relationship Note on Ira

Arguing empathy versus economics with a man whose very profession requires him to lack the empathy that the gods gave a smithing hammer does strike me as a waste of time, generally speaking.

That said, I have a little time to waste with my pen and ink this morning:

Many of the poor have few choices. Sometimes they are ugly choices. When you have no choice at all, taken from you by another person, that is an affront to the Faith. This is not actually so complicated as one might make it out.

Nor is the institution practiced by the Thrax _identical_ to the practices of the Eurusi slavers. Just as these things are not so complicated as one might make it out, they are also not actually so simple as absolutes require.

My opinions on these matters are well known. All human souls are spun of the same stuff. From the lowest of the low to the highest of the high, you were placed here by the same hand, and She will embrace you again when your journey is done, however that end may come.

Even if you are a blithering prat, She will embrace you all the same. I hope you will take comfort from that, brother philosopher.

Ah, morning. Winter on the verge of spring. The birds are singing, the pigeons are cooing. The cream of society are warring in the Archive again.

It's days like these I really miss my mother

In the eyes of the gods, we are all human souls. At our core, beneath all the trappings, there is no fundamental difference between us, woven as we are with the same stuff, by the same hand, from the same source.

In one life you may be born a Princess. In the next you may be born a seamstress. In another, you may be born a child cut down far, far too young in the brutality of war.

All prayers are welcome. All life is precious. All faith is golden. Let no one who seeks the comfort of the gods be denied.

The Sentinel sees all and knows righteousness.

Personally, I welcome doomsaying while naked, and in fact the next time somebody comes to me with dire warnings of the end of the world, I plan to react to the beginning of the conversation by immediately removing my trousers.

Rumor has it that the new in thing among the quality is to try to die in tournament fights like we are Nox'Alfar who will simply hop along to a new body no one is using as soon as we die, memories intact, to continue in more or less the same fashion in which we began.

It does seem like the kind of fad that is self-limiting, but just in case the fashion spreads, here is a reminder from me to you:

Death is not something to be taken lightly and it does no honor to any god to do so.

Many are writing journals about the renewal of the new year, and I honor that, for the change of seasons and Lagoma's grace, and for the new beginnings in your own lives that many of you are claiming or undertaking.

For myself, I am starting this first month off with a crushed foot courtesy of some entertaining hijinx involving an inconveniently placed ladder, a bucket of pitch, and two men carrying an entire sheet of plate glass through the street.

In the event anyone reading this receives any funds they do not want and never asked for, as a priest of the Faith I recommend making a donation of those funds to the good works of the Faith of the Pantheon. Instead of paying back what is not intended as a loan, pay it forward, and those who receive the benefit of Gild's charity will be enriched. Along with, of course, your spiritual well being.

You can't stop others from doing what they will, but you can control your own choices.
