I like big boats, and I can not lie.

I suppose I've been quiet as of late, though it is not due to anything in particular. Perhaps a bit of trying to find inspiration, which I stumbled upon today and ended up with a handful of hairpins thanks to it. Sometimes I need a thread, a line to follow to make a group of things. Thinking back, though, my more random additions to the shop seemed to fare just as well, if not maybe better. Many prefer the higher levels of metal, too, but rubicund is just too pricey to risk designing at my whim and hoping it will sell in the shop. Besides, I like working with steel. It's affordable and I put as much of a story into those pieces as I do for ones people request. The only difference is that the story comes from me, which hopefully isn't such a bad thing.

I never duplicate personal commissions except in the exceptionally rare case that the commissionee, or someone quite close to them, specifically requests as much. It would be mortifying to me to have two people show up to a party in matching swords! More truly, though, I design specifically to the person or persons who take the time to visit the shop to order something anyhow. Those weapons are forged with a feeling of their owner, which makes duplicates about impossible.

Items I put up for sale in the shop, however, may indeed have very similar designs or themes to other items, though I attempt to advertise that very plainly when I do so.

The more you know.

Sometimes communing with metal over a hot forge for a couple of weeks is good for the soul. Along with a few bottles of well-aged whiskey, of course. It's the catching up when that's done, though, that is the kick in the ass.

Relationship Note on Joscelin

There is no greater compliment than to render our beloved Guildmaster Joscelin near speechless. To have delighted one of the most ingenious crafters I have ever known is even beyond that. Thank you, my dearest friend, for trusting me with such a wide-open gift of crafting what I felt, especially considering the import of the project. I'm both honored and thrilled they are so kindly received!

While unnerving, I don't mind the darkness that much. So often we sleep or work through it and perhaps it doesn't get appreciated as much as it could. Noting, of course, that I often feel like someone on the outside of things, so this may just be another example of as much. Or naivety, maybe? Whatever.

I suppose I can check, 'riding Abyss-bent into an ambush on the back of a war elk with Sir Daemon,' off of my bucket list. Not that I actually /have/ a bucket list, but perhaps now I should start one. No sexy scar for me, but I'm pretty okay with that.

I couldn't be more grateful for those who heard me shout and came to our aide, else I likely would not be writing this. Thank you doesn't quite cover it, but know I am indebted to each and every one of you.

Relationship Note on Edain

Truly and sincerely, if I could have a wedding half as exciting as the Prince of Sanctum's, I might consider marrying again. But only half as exciting; more than that I'm unsure I could handle!

More seriously, though, I am beyond thrilled for my long-time patron and his lovely new bride! Prince Edain and Princess-Consort, Lady Caelis Malvici, are a pair to be reckoned with, no doubt, and I am excited as well as honored to be a part of this future they will lead us into.

Relationship Note on Daemon

Any honorable fight you walk away from is a good fight and not the least bit stupid! If one doesn't die, which neither of us did by some holy grace of all the gods. We have to do that again sometime soon! When you're healed. And maybe when the odds aren't 50 to 2. Still!

So I went on a bit of a shopping spree for the upcoming wedding and reception of my honorable patron, His Grace, Prince Edain. I have dresses, of course, despite most often preferring to be in work clothes or armor. Nothing, however, truly befitting such an event. So a couple pieces of jewelry, a leather dress with delicate chains to almost make it look like chainmail, boots and a silk cloak to match that and...that might be it, actually. It /felt/ like a lot more shopping than that.

I can hardly wait to see this lovely pair, who seem so well suited and make each other so happy, wed! It will be nice to pass through the hamlet too, of course, and maybe visit the children if there's time. With spring in the air, a little trip will be a nice way to breath in the new season.

The new forge is nearly installed and I'm dying to get to work. Two swords up first and then at least a handful of daggers, baby themed. Probably will give a couple of them away, but it is like the designs are writing themselves in my head. Can't wait to be back to work! Barring any MORE unforeseen circumstances of an almost comedic nature, of course. Not that I'm superstitious. Except that I am wholly and, perhaps, almost ridiculously superstitious. I think I am going to sprinkle some salt on my doorway, just in case.

Since I'm still musing, a thought I've been toying with, due to this somewhat leisurely day among the journals: Baby's First Weapon series. Surely there has to be a market for this sort of thing? Maybe? Y'know, a short sword with a baby dragon or baby bear theme, for example. Daggers with small vultures. Maybe I'll find that old unicorn design from awhile back even.

Okay, great, I'm getting A Look from the scholar now. Yes, you. I'm looking at you wrinklerobes. Sure, leave it in there. Whatever! Not like the babies are going to USE them right away. Oaths and steel, maybe I should just go drink somewhere and stop this musing stuff.

I've come to wonder if the strong-personality cat I've read about recently might be the same one that lead to my receiving Dopey, who I believe is a litter mate possibly; he was gifted to me by then-Lady Kima what seems like a lifetime ago. Then-Lord Victus had visited the shop and spoke about his own furball, which lead to me remarking on wanting one. He crossed paths with then-Lady Kima shortly after, mentioned my wish, and voila! She so kindly had him delivered to me. The kitten, not the Thraxian lord, of course.

Dopey is still a handsome gray color with white toes (even given the soot about the shop) and has remained a sleepy creature prone more to purring than much else. Had to get him a bigger purple collar as he grew, but the tag with his name on it remains. He's loved about everyone to come to the shop, too, as far as I can remember, y'know? Not the jealous type. Or maybe he just loves being pet that he doesn't much mind who does it, ha. Anyhow, today's musings while the new forge is being installed and I have idle hands.

Often, I feel I have somewhat accidentally sequestered myself away from all the doings, going-ons, and stories of the city. Adventures and explorations, discoveries and wonderment. On some rare occasions, though, I half wonder if that's not necessarily such a bad thing. Quiet life unexamined and all that.

Relationship Note on Joscelin

I can count on one hand the number of people that I would do anything for; risk my life or help them bury a body, etc. Guildmaster Joscelin is one of those few, though it's doubtful my fellow smith and dearest friend would need any such thing from me. Still, if she asked? I would not hesitate or even ask questions, probably. I love that we are nowhere near the same women we were years and years ago, so matured and changed with life and experiences. Yet, somehow, also still those bright-eyed girls who loved working metal and forged (no pun intended) a fast friendship. Her opinion means the world to me. She lends me reason to get caught up in her untamed joy of life and, perhaps, I lend her a pinch of reserve to draw on if she may need it. No matter if we've not seen each other for a day, week, or nearly a year, that bond of friendship never fades; it is something I feel exceptionally grateful for. A quiet drink at an Inn while snow dusts over the evening is made all the more warm and cheerful in such company, and I can think of no better place in the world to be.

Ah, the carnival was such a joy to attend! I don't often spend time at the larger social events, perhaps obviously, but I certainly could not miss one thrown by a princess of House Valardin. Truly, I had a wonderful time and thoroughly enjoyed speaking with old friends as well as new people that hopefully will be future friends. I hope the weapons I made for the event are well received, especially after seeing the stunning contributions so many people gave! Princess Katarina's vision truly came to life and so beautifully. I didn't get to speak to as many as I had hoped, nor linger as long as I might have wished, but the time that I was there was genuinely fantastic. I'm very glad I went!

I can think of at least three depraved acts I may have happily done in order to have witnessed those embracing figurines and the expression on the High Lord's face when he first recognized what they were. I mean that with all due respect, truly.

Did another round of those hairpin/dagger pairs in the shop, though this may be the last for awhile. About half have sold, which is great! When time allows, might think up new themes - not sure yet. I've been told I can't sequester myself away too long or risk being forcibly removed from the forge. Ha!

Had an exceptionally fun brawling lesson and subsequent fight today with the Sword of Stonedeep. I truly do not get my ass to the training center enough for this sort of thing! While I genuinely enjoyed it, it reminded me that there are some areas that I need to get myself better acquainted with - namely defense. I'll have to put out word soon to see if anyone might be willing to teach a slightly older dog a few new tricks.

In other doings, commissions are light enough that I feel as though I can really weave weapons rather than just crank them out. Princess Katarina had placed an order that I loved working on a /great/ deal. I hope they will be well received. Still not sure I'll seek to learn how to forge diamondplate. It was a very big dream of mine, once upon a time. I know its greater benefit, but maybe in later years when my fighting is behind me.

Relationship Note on Mirari

Mistress Mirari Corsetina had advertised about restocking her shop and while I was elbow deep in commission work, I took a break to go and visit her establishment, Of Works Obscura. It is a wonder I left with any silver, I have to admit. The scents she produces are wonderful. Much like I enjoy a strong tea that smells as good as it tastes, these fragrances are a delight. I had the great fortune to also be able to purchase a higher quality perfume, Realm's Essence, which I can hardly wait to have occasion to wear! Or may just wear for no occasion at all, simply because I adore it. For the few people who know my birthday and wonder /what in Arvum/ does one get a knighted brawling weaponsmith for her birthday? The answer is perfume. I am vaguely obsessed.

Truly, though, Mistress Mirari's talents are extraordinary and I am so glad I took the time to visit her shop. Everyone should.
