Using babies as weapons to kill noncombatant Abandoned had nothing to do with the Silence and, in fact, if we had not defeated Tolamar Brand and his forces at the time that we did, Oblivion would have unmade the world and we would now all be enjoying permanent nonexistence.

Periodically people in this city take it into their heads to post up white journals about how great a guy Abbas Thrax is. Such a nice man. Not even a little empirically horrific.
I have asked Brother Gregory to keep track of this for me so that whenever it happens, he can bring me a copy of the page in question and a fresh bottle of wine. I would use whiskey, but I would probably die.
Every time someone extols his virtues, comments on his heroism, or otherwise discusses his military prowess without reference to his unfortunate habit of murdering innocents and using diseased children as weapons of war, I take a drink. If someone calls him honorable or implies that his actions have never been a hideous offense to the gods, I have to finish the bottle.
It had been awhile, but Gregory remembered the game.

Menial tasks are menial. Shocking, isn't it?
Even before I joined the Faith, as a commoner with money, I rarely cooked for myself. Myrinda Grayhope was one of the foremost tailors in the city, do you really think she bothered with seasoning a roast and all of that every day? Good gods. Those as cook for themselves daily are those who have no choice and/or no money to pay staff. Fortunato is one of the foremost artists in the city and he sure doesn't bother to cook. Some days he doesn't even bother to eat.
I can cook -- I know how, especially easy stuff like gruel or stew, since ... you know we didn't ALWAYS have money -- but really, there's a reason I pay money to people, and there was a reason I upped the wages of the cooks at the Murder. It was because I really wanted to guarantee that we were never cooking with lizard. Now, sometimes Saedrus puts together an amazing table and I'm pretty sure he does that himself -- or, well, he vanishes into the kitchen and then delectable foods mysteriously appear shortly thereafter and I don't put much more thought into it -- but I mean...
Unlike Legate Orazio, I still dress myself daily and take care of my own hair, because I just -- I just can't wrap my head around the idea of entrusting that to a servant. Except on those occasions when I have help from the spiders. But that's a pretty unusual morning, all told.
