I did not sleep well last night, as I spent the night tossing and turning. Something is dreadfully wrong, I fear, somewhere. Or perhaps it was the coffee.

Relationship Note on Pharamond

I had an interesting discussion with Lord Pharamond yesterday about adventures, risk taking and the duties of a House Sword.

I am not sure how likely it is that I will be the safe one who doesn't cause him to take risks. I'm not sure that doing the right thing will allow that. However, I shall certainly do my best.

Not necessarily to be safe, though surely that will always play a role. But to do the right thing.

Remember Copper.

Such exciting times we live in, I don't know where to begin. I should just stick to my upcoming marriage, shouldn't I?

(The scholar gave me such a strange look; I think she was trying not to laugh.)

I know there is a lot going on, and I have not stopped my studies, but - now there is joy in discussing things such as dresses and matching suits. And flowers.

Many flowers.

I attended my first Grayson dinner and discovered I already knew everyone there. I believe this may have startled Harlan, who wasn't aware of just how much of a social butterfly I have been.

Well, that's not a secret any more. If it ever was.

I am going to need a wedding dress.

I have been remiss about my journal postings so here are 3 unrelated items.

I went to the Artshall Spring Fete and quite enjoyed myself. I also got compliments on my dress, which was very much appreciated, as I took a bit of a risk with the umbra instead of aeterna.

The Good Duke was a rounding success. Congrats to everyone involved. The afterparty was also much fun, and it was lovely to see Duke Harlan out and about, though I worry he taxes himself before he is quite ready. I suppose that is only to be expected.

It seems we have need of diplomats on an ongoing basis, now to try to ease the tensions along the Great Road. Hopefully we will be able to sort things out to a successful compromise.

Relationship Note on Aleksei

I don't know who it is, but I don't think I want to.

Sharing Princess Sorrel's songs always makes me smile. I am glad I can help do that.

I have gone to Mistress Petal's Tangled Skein and acquired some of her copper poppies for Westrock Commons. I do hope they grow there. I also sent some to Lady Olivia, so she might keep them alive. That way if mine die, I hope to be able to get more from her, as I am certain hers will grow.

I also stopped by Dame Ida's store. Her apprentices are very kind and helpful, and I acquired several of the Brooches made to remember and honour Copper. Mistress Josephine's wonderful gesture making sure that everyone can procure copper for making memorial brooches is very well appreciated as well.

I am proud of the commitment and unity we are seeing on this front. Come what may, we do remember. And we hope.

Relationship Note on Khanne

Someone pointed me to a journal referencing my own. Does that make for a vicious circle?

In any event, Lady Khanne, I agree with your very well put point. We can remember them and believe in ourselves.

That belief will lead us to action, and in hopefully good directions.

Given my feelings earlier, I went to the Hall of Heroes, and sat by Copper's statue there. I made sure to read all the inscriptions in the main hall, spending some time reflecting on these Heroes and their sacrifices, and then went over to the statue of Copper.

They believed in us, and in return all we can do is remember them.

I have no idea what to say. I know I should say something important, pithy, or even amusing, but I can't think of any such thing.

I suppose we will see what happens next.

Oh! I did have an interesting conversation with some friends at the coffee shop. It was fun and entertaining and interrupted by the gossip swirling around Arx.

The world is in a state of sadness. There must be something to be done to cheer everyone up.

As usual, Princess Sorrel has a way to move a crowd. And there was a crowd, a very large one, at her performance. Originally scheduled for Silver alone, she added an additional performance of her ode to Copper, which was just as lovely as the first time.

But far more poignant.

The rain has now stopped, and the sky was absolutely breathtaking. It feels as though the sadness has eased its grip a little, though it is still there.

I went to Ashford House, walked back with Lady Olivia after the event. And then spent some time there, visiting. We sat out and watched the sky, so glad to see it after all that has happened.

So far as I know, I never met her. And yet, still, I too feel the sorrow.

This is but a taste of what she maybe felt over the years. Mourning. Prayer. Action.

Relationship Note on Malcolm

I think we can maybe send you a pot or three of nice strong Westrock coffee, my Lord Duke. Though I am not convinced it will help you very much.

What? Of course I sent it, Scholar. I wouldn't be so mean as to mention it and not send it.

Went to the Clearlake Winter Festival today. I think Violet put just the right amount of whiskey in my cocoa. It was very warming, and I can still walk home! Well done.

Unfortunately, not everyone can say that.
