Victus is surely a man of strength and of Thrax. Such a display is in his ways of communication and his life.
Do you know he told me that he earned his name by skills alone? That is a lovely thing to accomplish and work for.

Son of a bitch sure beat the living shit out of me and Serafine at the training center. And here I thought Prince Fergus was a hard fight. I at least lasted a while against the Redrain Prince, but Lord Victus took me down in /TWO/ hits. The first hit cracked my ribs and the second to the groin put me down so hard that I couldn't walk, after.

Fought Victus Thrax today. He's pretty good - maybe even a match for me at full effort? Hard to say, it was just to first blood, and while he got it, the cut is already sealed. I don't know. I should be excited to spar against him and see if this is a challenge worth working to overcome, but somehow I'm not. Maybe it's because he's such an unpleasant guy.

So, Lord Victus. He is every negative stereotype of the Thrax 'men of the sea.' He is violent, gruff, foul mouthed, rude, and he has a very selective memory when it comes my tastes in art and instead projects his own ideas of 'good art' on to me. Ok that last part is a long story, never mind that. Here's the thing though, he owns who he is. He does not make apologies, and he doesn't have time for our crap. Sure he's an asshole, but it doesn't come from a place on insecurity to prove he is the strongest one there is. He simply isn't afraid to be what he is. Like is a strong word, but I cannot help but respect him for that.

Relationship Note on Victus
Being who we are, by all rights we should have a more contentious relationship than we do. Victus is as traditional a Thrax captain as they come, while I am possibly the most nontraditional Voice we have ever had. But I regard him in many ways as a bellwether. Our Leviathan is as clever, ruthless, and able a commander of men as we have ever produced. If my work did not nauseate him, I know my life would look very different right now. I admire him, because he toughens me. He treats me only with the respect that I earn from him, which means more than what merely falls at my feet as an accident of birth. He reminds me of what it means to be Thrax.

While lunching, without the actual lunch, with Lady Kima I had the honour, albeit brutish and brief, to have met Lord Victus Thrax. On telling me he had been sent to Axr, in part, to garner some more courtly mannerisms I did offer my services. After all, etiquette and sophistication are trades I deal in regularly. Though I left with the feeling the offer will likely not be taken up any time soon, if ever. There is no harm in trying, is there.

I've met this Lord Victus Thrax on a beach. He was fishing. Vidar and I interfered into his peaceful morning. It was a fun and beautiful morning and I got some fishes at the end of it. Likely, because Vidar kind of poked his nose into the bucket. So, Victus didn't want to eat that fish anymore. It was a tasty fish. Anyway, we will go hunting together. He does have this grumpy face and uses it as a protection. I get it. He is afraid to become friends with people, because friends leave deeper wounds than enemies in the battlefield. However, I still hope that he may become quite an amazing companion. We will have fun and he will get used to my presence.

There is an old saying that a battle of wits is not worth fighting when your opponent comes unarmed.
Unfortunately it is seldom the case that any opponent is unarmed, it is simply that their weapon is too fragile or of such poor manufacture to be of any use.
Similarly unfortunate is the case where one is so intellectually dull that their weapon of choice, in a battle of wits, is a club with which they knock you down to their level and beat you with experience.
I shall have to keep a careful eye on this one, I suspect.
