Relationship Note on Victus

Without the Lord Commander or His Majesty, the fun on the Red Serpent would not have been possible despite any complications toward the end of that journey.

Relationship Note on Victus

By his journals, Prince Victus seems most dedicated and devout. Having heard from the Seraph of the Palace of his words and deeds, there is a part of me that wishes the Faith had managed to claim him rather than his duties to his family. If his cousin is anything to go by, we would have gained a champion without equal.

I swear I'm not averse to many kinds of fun. I had fun on the Red Serpent that day, after all. And I don't have a moral objection to parties, they just tend not to be my thing. But having spoken to your wife, and considering she is helping me with my small tactical amusement, I expect I'll see you there. It's a little thing, probably not funny to anyone but me, but I'm pretty okay with that.

Touche.

I'd duel your chosen champion, Your Grace, but my hands are allergic to... whatever weapon hilts are made of. And I have better ways to spend my time.

Put that in quotes. High Lords enjoy quotes, right?

Relationship Note on Victus

That was an unexpected revelation. And certainly an unexpected conversation. It sets into perspective some odd feelings I've had, and apparently some dreams you've had, and well - let's say I'm curious to see how this works. It worked before, right? So it can work again, or we'll go out in a blaze of glory, one. But here's something I haven't said before - I believe you'll do this. You have a plan. You have some goals. And you certainly have the strength and the will to move forward. I believe in you, and that's something I never thought I'd say.

Relationship Note on Victus

I remain unsure on what mistake Prince Victus made in the shrine that caused the waters to consume our ships, or for himself to be stricken. For my part, I do not blame him - a mistake was made, and he has learnt the lesson it seems, so what purpose does blame serve other than to salve hurt pride and stroke egos?

No. I am actually encouraged. Prince Victus has accepted, owned and now seeks to deal with the problems we face. Were more of his vassals so focused on results and less on pride, he would be served better.

Oh, certainly we have other methods of fishing in the mainlands for freshwater fish as well, from spear, to pole, to net, and bow and arrow, and more.

They simply aren't known as noodling, that's all.

I think I'd actually rather like to try my hand at some of the larger specimens out in the ocean at some point, if I can ever find the opportunity.

They practice Noodling in the Stoneburn Hills, as well. I've even done such, many times. There however, it means something very different, as I shall explain.

Specifically, it means using your bare hands to catch flathead catfish for sport and food. The choice of catfish as the prey is not arbitrary, but comes from the circumstances of their habitat. Flathead catfish live in holes or under brush in rivers and lakes and thus are easier to capture due to the unmoving nature of their dwelling. To begin, a noodler goes underwater to depths ranging from only a few feet to twenty feet and places his hand inside a discovered catfish hole. If all goes as planned, the catfish will swim forward and latch onto the fisherman's hand, usually as a defensive maneuver, in order to try to escape the hole. If the fish is particularly large, the noodler can hook the hand around its gills.

Mind, the average flathead is around forty pounds, though I've caught fish as heavy as one hundred twenty pounds. These are fairly muscular beasts, and there have been fish spotted that weigh over three hundred, so it can be a fairly dangerous activity, and I don't recommend it for the inexperienced, lest they lose an arm, or worse, drown.
