The first committee meeting has proved to be exceptionally productive, and I know I chose right in cohosts. It's a thrilling time and early in the planning stage but this is something I deeply enjoy. I'd almost forgotten how much. Soon. Soon, I will reveal the first place prize and revel in the collective gasps of the City. I do not do anything by half measures.

The Wisest Fly
'I was still feeding when the book was shut, I was reading!'
Is that what the fly was thinking to itself?
it got stuck at 'quibbling', the least appealing word
in a book on problems of philosophy.
Were you attracted to the two b's?
I'm sorry, I didn't notice you
But you died by the words of a profound thinker
Yelm would have been proud to know you landed on

Tonight was wonderful, and I owe it all to Lady Tabitha Whitehawk, Lord Pharamond Ashford and Archlector Etienne. They are all superb company and it was a rare, true pleasure, the likes of which are rare enough these days that I sit here savoring the memory of it, finding myself longing to commit the evening to time immemorial.

For those minds jumping to conclusions, the Tournament of Thorns was something discussed some time ago, as a competition of wits and social skills, meant to include those whose primary focus is not martial. I very much look forward to seeing such wit on display and put to best use.

Relationship Note on Pharamond
It was a distinct pleasure to spend time at the practice yard by the Gauntlet with Lord Ashford. This man fights the way others breathe, instinctual and easy. By far the best student I have taught to wield a dagger, able to merge both worlds and use his natural strength to best advantage. It was an exceptional evening of good company and good exercise and I look forward to dinner and drinks and stories.

Relationship Note on Etienne
The truth is that our finest moments are most likely to occur when we are feeling deeply uncomfortable, unhappy, or unfulfilled. For it is only in such moments, propelled by our discomfort, that we are likely to step out of our ruts and start searching for different ways or truer answers. Two years ago, I found mine. We grew stronger in the face of conflict, in the face of everything and everyone the world has thrown at us. The harder the conflict, the more glorious our triumph.
I love this man that can smile in trouble, that can gather strength from distress and grow brave by reflection. It's the business of little minds to shrink; but his heart is strong.
It puts me in mind of something my father told me, when I was younger and indulged far more than I should have been, thinking myself in love with every thief, knight or baron who showered me with gifts and offers of their heart. He shook his head at my vain proclamations and told me, "Love is not something you go out and look for. Love finds you, and when it does, ready or not, it’ll be the best thing to ever happen to you."
I wasn't ready, but he was right.

Never have I seen something so regal. Indeed, it puts anything I have ever worn on my head to shame, and I have worn Triscali's crown, so that is saying something. I am spoiled beyond belief, and grateful beyond measure. I do not know that any other birthday present will top this one, and none could top your friendship.

There are many mysteries in the world today, many challenges that face us, crying to be unraveled. Somewhere, there is an Emperor bloodying his way across the Dune Kingdoms in fervent conquest. Somewhere, something rumbles, and it is our fault, but why? Somewhere, there are young children cowering in a cell, being terrified, being eaten, and this, too, is our fault, in tangent. But the where's and why's and how's are mysteries to be unraveled, some at greater cost than others. If you are willing to pay whatever the cost you might find, and you need only the information to attempt the transaction? Seek me out.
