I've heard from the Crown just recently. The Gilded Page must pay a fee of 25,000 silver monthly to remain open. Quite a hefty sum for a free library the does not make any money for itself, and whose proceeds are all donated to the Faith, when there are proceeds to donate. What a challenge I have been presented with.

The books are finished. Six different exceptional personages, six different languages. The Tournament approaches, and now all that's left are copies to be made for the day. I wonder if anyone will be able to translate them all...

The final game leading up to the Tournament of Thorns has begun! There is a betting pool that's been set up to allow anyone to bet on the winner of the Tournament of Thorns. It's 10,000 silver or 40 resources of any kind to place a bet on one person. Participants may only bet on one person, but they may change who they're betting on once, up until the day before the Tournament. The prize money will be divided by the amount of people who guess right, plus one, with the plus one portion going to a charity of the Tournament Committee's choice.

As an example, if 30 people bet, that's 300,000 silver. If out of those 30 people, 5 people guess right, they will get 50,000 silver each, with the last 50,000 going to charity.

Lists have been posted of all those who have won Thorns and been qualified for the Tournament, alongside the notice of the betting game. These lists will be updated as new contestants win Thorns.

Messengers can be sent to me with bets. Happy gaming!

That precise moment when something happens exactly as you said it would, there's a pleasant feeling of deja vu and then a rush of euphoria over (once again) being right. I ought to be a fortune teller.

"Hunting Thorns"

I'm beyond thrilled that there's a term for collecting the qualifying Thorns for the Tournament. I wish the best of fortune to anyone Hunting Thorns. You make this fulfilling for me and I thank you.

Thirteen people have qualified for the Tournament of Thorns already! An auspicious sign, I think. And one particularly clever Thraxian Princess has secured herself three thorns! Ah, but I'm excited to see who will qualify next!

Somebody accused me recently of not having any hobbies. I do have one, in fact.

I collect candlesticks.

The qualifying games for the Tournament of Thorns start in two days and continue up until the day before the Tournament! If you'd like to try your hand at one (or all) of them, here's a preview of what you can expect:

Princess Marisol's game: Princess Marisol and Prince Tyrval will hold court for those seeking the copper thorn. The challenge is that each contestant must compliment Prince Tyrval somehow. His Royal Highness will get to judge each compliment and those found wanting will not receive a thorn. They probably won't receive a blood curse, but we make no promises.

Lord Michael's game: Prank wars! Lord Bisland welcomes skilled pranks pulled on him. The best pranks will win the bronze thorn and entrance into the Tournament. Please try not to maim him.

Archlector Etienne's game: Blessed Etienne's game is a game of the Faith. He will give contestants a topic and they must then compose a stirring sermon on the spot to inspire the public. Those who are sufficiently Faithful (or good at faking it) will win a coveted golden thorn.

Lord Sebastian's game: Lord Pravus will be camped out amongst the forestry of the Menagerie. His game will require contemplation of a detailed and distracting painting. Only those with skills sharp in perception and deduction will figure out where he's hidden his steel thorns.

Princess Alarissa's game: Do you have what it takes to meet the Princess-Consort of Thrax's meticulous standards when it comes to setting a table? Is that a grapefruit spoon? Where does the butter dish even go? Are you SURE you want to use that fork for your fish? If you know your etiquette, you could win the brass thorn.

Lord Rysen's game: Lord Rysen's retainer Lygeia is known for her great composure. Contestants are charged with telling a story that will make her laugh. It can be funny, surprising, wondrous or witty - anything that proves a chuckle or laughter from the dour Lygeia will grant a pewter thorn and entry into the Tournament.

Lady Monique's game: Lady Greenmarch's game is two truths and a lie, and just as it sounds. You will tell her a lie, paired with two truths, and she will attempt to guess which one is the lie. Those she cannot guess will receive a silver thorn.

Anytime the Committee members are out in public <OOC - with their LRP flag set; see Events bbpost 77 for rules> the game is afoot! May success be with you.

The qualifying games for the Tournament of Thorns are only a short while away! I'll be posting a list soon of all of the games you can partake in to qualify. I'm looking forward to seeing who claims the special medallions for beating all of the games, if anyone. It won't be easy, but then I've found exceptionally intelligent and witty people are rarely deterred by a challenge.

I'm not sure I'll ever be able to use my arms again. They feel like rubber. Damn that Snowy Seas tournament! What clever torture! Thoroughly enjoyed myself, but am paying for it now. For those of you who threw snowballs at me, don't think revenge won't be swift when I regain the use of my arms!

It is a testament to the skill of the Committee and the generosity and vision of others that this Tournament is coming together exactly as fast as it is. Mistress Rosemary and Mistress Lore are the reason all this steelsilk burns so bright a hole in my pocket (figuratively!) Their skill has been essential!

I wept, before the Gala, when I had to give away those splendid cloaks. I can feel the tears well up when I stare at the dragonweep and star iron for the Tournament of Thorns. So much beauty. It's terrible to think about being parted with it.

I'm getting maudlin in my old age.

Tournament of Thorns Qualifying Games

To qualify for the Tournament of Thorns, contestants must first pass at least one pre-game, hosted by the members of the Committee of Thorns in the weeks leading up to the Tournament. Each Committee member will have a different game of wit or social skill, and should you complete their challenge, you will be given a Thorn representing your entrance as a contestant in the Tournament.

While you need collect only one Thorn to compete, if you manage to collect all seven Thorns, one from each Committee member, your Thorns may be presented to Princess Marisol Valardin, whose magnificent mind came up with this challenge, in order to receive the Pendant of Thorns, which carries with it a hint as to the final Mystery Challenge of the Tournament itself, giving you a valuable advantage.

*Princess Marisol Valardin’s Thorn: Copper
*Lord Sebastian Pravus’ Thorn: Steel
*Archlector Etienne’s Thorn: Gold
*Lord Michael Bisland’s Thorn: Bronze
*Princess Donella Redrain’s Thorn: Pewter
*Princess Alarissa Thrax’s Thorn: Brass

Relationship Note on Josephine

My dear, beloved Mistress Josephine has outdone herself yet AGAIN! The crown prize for the Redheaded Rebellion is a stygian work of wonder and I have asked myself (and the master of jewels herself) how ever I'm supposed to find the will to part with it. I SUPPOSE I shall consider this, whilst I ponder how best to repay my dearest friend for her selfless and sadistic kindness.

I must commend Count Fournier on his honorable actions regarding the outcome of his duel with my esteemed sister, Princess Marian. Greenmarch is stronger for such a steadfast and understanding new ally. Count Gael is truly well-endowed with wisdom.

Reflecting on my life thus far, I'm amazed by the amount of times my life has been put in mortal danger, and how few times I've been wounded as a result. A great deal of near misses and close calls, and it's no wonder I believe in luck and chance as much as I do. I think the worst I've experienced was a chilling bit of frost bite on a Gray Forest campaign, and even that wasn't without its perks in the recovery.

Or maybe luck is simply the virtue of being better prepared to deal with such situations. It's something I've been mulling over, lately, how to be better prepared.

It's not the first time I've passed out from too much drink but it's certainly the most fun I've had doing it. Consummate hostess. But I most certainly could use a cure all of some sort sent to me by a very quiet messenger.

My eternal gratitude to those who have reached out to offer their help with the preparation of the Tournament of Thorns. Even beyond my esteemed Committee, there are those who have taken the time to offer aid and I have taken them up on it, and will continue to take them up on it, whosoever may volunteer. Many hands make light work, it's true, but many minds and many skills make an event to remember.

I see a friend walking down a tremendous path and I'm proud of him for having the courage to face the dangerous unknown and still choose to take that road. The Spirit Walkers are fortunate for his presence, and I know that he, too, will greatly benefit from their direction.
