Relationship Note on Alarissa
While I've written personal correspondence with the Princess-Consort of House Thrax, thanking her for a pair of thoughtful gifts? I believe that such random acts of generosity which are absent of ulterior motive should be recognized in the writings that will comprise my history even after I am gone. While that part of history is my own little thread in the grand tapestry, it is a history that I share with others. I'm pleased to call Her Highness my friend; not only to myself, but my House.
Nearly everyone loves a gift freely given and I've found that I am only occasionally the exception.
These are a pair of gifts that I will gleefully accept and remember their giving well into the future.

What do you give a Princess Consort who either has everything, or with a snap of fingers can get anything. Certainly not newborns. My wife would kill me, and not sure her Grace would be any friendlier to me if I did. Nope you give her a painting of the Queen of Squirrels, done by said Queen of Squirrels. I hears Doreen did it in the same red tree sap my cousin tried to poison me with.

The Princess Consort does not understand how her heir knows how to pick locks, find hidey holes, and can lift a purse or dagger better than any dock urchin I have ever seen, and over this last year I have come to know a lot of dock urchins! I met the Princess Consort of Thrax. My intent was to request access to the estate library and I gained this, but I also believe I gained her ire.

Gods, Da, I almost used all three of those dreaded words in a missive. It's a proud day. Cause while I might've used one or two - I didn't use all of them - and the honor was still granted to us Shepherds. After Delilah and spoke about it, I asked the Princess-Consort of Maelstrom, the Pearl of Thrax herself - Princess Alarissa Thrax - to be salt parent to Altair. She accepted, and that kid's going to be all the better for it, I know.

I had the fortune of being able to recommend a meeting to the Princess, though she is often busy. I got to recommend her character. As someone strong, whom has gone from grace, to graceful strength and will. Thrax is strong, and it is partially from her leadership and hand upon it.
I may not always make you smile Princess, but I'm proud of you and the things you've done. Thank you for being you, for the sacrifices you have made. They are not for naught, they are not to be forgot.

Alarissa Thrax is the most unorthodox orthodox person - her values are strong, her methods innovative. Her loyalty and devotion to the Gods however? Beyond question or doubt. She has repeatedly risked everything for the Faith and wears the wounds of those battles. She has taken upon herself the responsibility of raising our fortress in Maelstrom, and raising the funds for it. She has done in that as much as anyone to help restore the Templars to a glory once held. In her own way, she is a true defender of the Faith.

One of the many benefits of being married to an Islander, alongside dutifully producing heirs and sailing to exotic locals, is the opportunity of enjoying the hospitality of High Lord Victus and Princess Alarissa Thrax. Their conversation lacks no depth, nor does their table want excitement. The fare, also, is of the most interesting variety.
We eat a great deal of seafood in Stormwall. I was raised on cod and mackerel - even shark on occasion, but the cuisine of the Mourning Isles is something entirely different. Lady Catalana Kennex insisted, surely for the benefit of expanding my palate, that I try eel eye. I found it to be quite a delicacy - one that surely must not be overindulged in order to preserve its unique texture and flavor. Indeed, I believe it's taste so exquisite, that once in a lifetime will surely suffice.
Lady Catalana's great generosity was noticed by the Princess-Consort of Maelstrom, who showed me the greatest favor, by introducing me to an Island tradition. I was presented with a bucket of saltwater in which floated several small octopi. Princess Alarissa kindly offered me the following instruction: "bite them before they bite you," and "afterward drown them in rum." I remember little after finishing off the bucket, but the rum of House Thrax is second only to the company at its tables, and with a bit of Rukhnis's hangover tea, I can say that the next morning left me with happy, if partial, memories and only the slightest headache.

It is so, historically, Princess Alarissa Thrax and I frequently have had occasion to disagree, on numerous subjects, but it is difficult to argue with her sense of fashion. Her most recent collection modeled on behalf of the Faith has made this plain, and I believe it worthy of note.

The Princess liked my design, in so far as it could be used in a functional fashion. Suggested some improvements on it to make it more fashionable for one such as herself. Have to double my efforts for it. Like Master Babbage always said, the commissioner has the vision, it's our job to make it real.
Also, I think I will be making some signs to put up advertising my shop. Over in the Lowers other's might not know of it. Now where to put them...

I was recently able to spend some time with the Princess. It has been far too long since we were last able to sit and speak with one another and I do hope it will not be so long before the next.
We have both weathered too much in the time since. Far too much. We have seen too much. Bore too much. She does better than she gives herself credit for, but it is understandable given the circumstances and in time, she will see through to the other side. I believe it normal that we never know just how strong we are until we have set down the weight we are carrying.
She gave me some advice. Some of it more difficult to hear than the rest. I intend to see it through all the same.
