On the Matter of Trade

The Liberators of Skald have a noble goal and that is commendable. House Deepwood assisted them in this noble goal and that equally is commendable.

What is not commendable is the lack of consideration for the heads of fealty from where they purchase their thralls. If they had purchased their five thousand thralls from Whitefrost, as an example, they would have committed an economic and population crash that would have rendered the Barony unsustainable - costing that House more resources in an attempt to recover with a chance that the Barony would be lost altogether. All for their own short-sighted short term goals of freeing those they want to label as slaves.

Their lack of understanding, of thralldom aside, we welcome the idea of a reformation. But they forced us to take a stance of preventing further mass depopulations like this - however legally purchased - without consultation to the fealty owner and consideration of the economical and population ramifications of the loss of those thralls.

You wish to buy out thrall debt. Fantastic. In the lands of House Navegant and its vassals, you will have to do so with permission and through authorization of the heads of house of those lands.

An economic crash? If their labor is truly worth more than the cost of paying off their debts, then arguably they should already be free.

Wait. We're confused. Use the money to hire soldiers to go get more thralls. Problem: Solved.

Is economic hardship truly more intolerable than the human suffering imposed upon those called thralls?
