On Recent Revelations

Posted by Dawn on 11/15/16
People of Arx and Arvum,

We have all of us prayed through these past months that the Assembly would provide us with clarity and a secure path going forward. We have lost so many that were dear to us: our beloved Queen Genevieve; the King to his Rest; the High Lords of the Lyceum and Redrain; the Lord Commander of the King's Own and all of their party. We knew that there were dangers in this world that we had to face. But with those dangers came many questions, and not all of the threats arrayed against us had a name.

The revelations of the Assembly have given us names, and some answers, but they have raised just as many questions. There are many wondering today, I know, whether what was said is true, or can be trusted.

This is what I know to be true: five hundred years ago, as recorded in journals in the Great Archives which escaped the destruction of the Crownbreaker Wars, Queen Alarice of Grayson signed a treaty with a people named the Nox'alfar. A translation of this treaty has been provided to us and must still be verified as true; it contains intriguing information and should it be proven as an accurate translation then we will know more than we did. But what was told to us in the records of the past, records kept in our language, is this: Queen Alarice signed this treaty. We of Arx and Arvum were forbidden from entering their territory, save at a specific time, under a specific set of conditions. The King, his Majesty, and his party were either unaware of this restriction or were misled. They ventured into forbidden territory, sacred to these people, and we must presume that these Nox'alfar believed what occurred then was a fitting punishment for this transgression.

In the coming weeks and months, it is our duty to each other and to the Compact to learn more. It is our duty to be one people, against the dangers both known and unknown that we face. It is our duty to prepare for the worst and pray for the best, to protect our most vulnerable, to be our best selves, now more than ever.

The High Lords will draft a letter. Many copies will be carried by a mixed party to be placed outside of the borders of the Nox'alfar territory. We will invite them to a summit. We will hear what they wish to tell us. We will reserve judgment until we hear what they wish to say, and we know their minds. While we await their answer, we will prepare ourselves for whatever might come, whether that be words or violence; we will not sit idly in times such as these. Queen Alarice allied our kingdoms with these people but that alliance has faded through the centuries. This is a different time, different circumstances, and until we know more, I will make no decision that pits us against them nor aligns us with them until we have more information.

Another proclamation will soon be released describing with more detail how I intend to proceed as Regent in the coming weeks. There is a great deal to do and I ask your patience as we proceed together into this uncharted territory. The Assembly proved that we are one people-- many voices, many cultures, many beliefs and opinions woven into one fabric. This is our Compact. Together we will strengthen it, together we will defend it and together we will move forward, a people united.

With respect,
Lady Regent Dawn of Grayson
