GIANT FISH

Normally, there's nothing but horror stories told of the sinister Shadowood and the dreadful things that lurk within. This is why it's all the stranger that the few of the Compact who brave the outer limits of that sprawling, primeval forest to hunt and forage return with tales of game and greenery in peculiar abundance. The deeper one ventures, the more thriving it appears and the more animals abound, they claim. Trees that should be bare and dormant, are instead heavy with nut, fruit and seed, and their leaves still green despite the near nightly frost.
Even weirder than this bountiful late season flourishing, are the dubious accounts of a fish of truly unusual size. Obviously, that's ridiculous and most scoff, but the rumors spread, especially around Duskshire and Artshall. Many children living along the rivers insist that it's all true, they've seen him and he's bigger than a whale. Not only that, but his name is "Dusky" and he likes to eat turnips when he's not sleeping at the bottom of a lake hidden in the Shadowood.
Parents, already weary from a summer of equally suspect dire bee sightings, just wish their children would forget about the whole thing (and stop throwing perfectly good turnips into the rivers).
