The Peerage and Lord Lawrence

The peerage has a lot of peculiar traditions that they're nonetheless entirely serious about. One of these is dueling - it's meant as a way to keep petty quarrels from exploding into public temper tantrums or worse, outright warfare. The peers of the North remember the Alespill War, and look with disdain upon nobles who refuse to either follow through on a challenge or apologize for their words.

While many of the peers aren't sure about why this 'Shard' person is important, and at least mildly resent the implication that she is, the fact remains that if she's important enough for Lord Lawrence Crovane to challenge, then she's important enough to duel, or apologize to, and his failure to do either has marked him poor company among honorable nobility. The collected peers who live in Arx wait with interest to see how Lord Lawrence regains his reputation...or how long it takes someone else to trip over themselves and become a more interesting scandal to enjoy over a glass of wine.
