Declining Nobility

Posted by Apostate on 05/11/20
Rumors are abound about the commoner named Petal Penrose, who was apparently offered ennoblement to House Blackwood when her spouse was raised to a lord, but declined the honor. It's very rare for an ennoblement to happen, and in the opinion of most peers, not anywhere near rare enough. It's even rarer for someone to decline the honor. Traditionalists all throughout Arvum celebrate her decision, as a paragon of humility and refusing to show the presumption of neo-nobles in rising above one's appropriate station. Thrax and Valardin in particular have a great deal of respect for the decision and are glad to have a commoner to cite as a counterpoint to reckless ennoblements, while commoners in the Lyceum see it as a missed opportunity to shake up the status quo.
