A Grand Mews

Posted by Pax on 12/25/18
After many months of effort -- and a great deal of construction -- a grand structure rises on a plateau outside of Hawkhold: an exotic bird sanctuary known as Skyfall Mews. And it was an effort undertaken by no small number of Compact citizens!

Baron Silas' involvement is no surprise, as it was constructed on his land. But the effort seems to have spanned a great many other houses, and even fealties; Duke Consort Aiden Rubino's involvement is of equally little surprise, given that the structure is built with stone quarried from Rubino-Zaffria lands, though some do think it a bit odd that the Duke personally oversees so much of the construction when it's built on another's land. Then again, the project started with Duke Aiden's efforts; perhaps even if his wife Duchess Grazia seems tolerant -- even supportive -- of his project, she just didn't want this huge structure on Gemecittan lands?

But the Duke and Baron are hardly the only notables involved in the effort, as both get their extended families involved. Lady Delilah delves deeply into historical records of the best mews that have been built, even turning to folklore for ideas. And Lord Salvatore assists with designing the grand mews, as well. Baroness Lucita lends funds to the project as well, while others -- Lady Miranda, Lady Evonleigh, Lady Tabitha, Nisaa, and Aviana -- assist with fundraising. Lady Elora, Lady Kenna, and Lord Bedivere are on-hand at the construction site as well, making certain that everything moves smoothly.

Prince Artur Redrain also seems quite taken with the project and speaks with enthusiasm about the many varied bird species that will be housed there, though no one seems exactly certain precisely how he's involved with the project beyond 'highly enthusiastic supporter'. Why, even the King himself has provided funding, and when asked cheerfully explains his interest as a "forward-thinking emergent development strategy to dominate the exotic messenger animal sector" -- a phrase which makes most courtiers just smile, nod, and quickly change the subject.

But if most people are only passingly interested in the mews, the zoologists and gameskeepers of Arvum are definitely curious to see what collection of rare and endangered birds is housed in this space. After all, with a sanctuary of that size, the collection being gathered must truly be a sight to behold; certainly some of those with an interest in the natural world are hoping that it will be open to the public after it's populated!
