With the forgetfulness that clouded the Compact falling, the Duke Martino Malvici has been using that forgetfulness to prepare himself. He has taken the time to collect in as much information as he has been able to about magic, magical bonds, black diamond rings, gray magic to allow him as much knowledge possible for the next steps. Over the last few years he has had a black diamond ring, having impressed Malrico before their death, but more recently been seeking to feed the craving the ring has for cruel acts.
With the fall of the Despite, Martino is feeding it more cruel acts in order to both empower it and his own magical properties. These acts being the total destruction, and betrayal, of some Shav'Arvani from House Nonpurdo (Action 4654), removing political rivals within the Lyceum (Action 4715) and within the city of Arx (Action 4720).
All of this, to feed the Black Diamond Ring in the hope of being rewarded for his service to it.
Result
Martino should be forgiven for thinking nothing happened. Certainly nothing seemed to. He spoke to the ring, he tried old chants found in occult lore and ritualistic ceremonies of offering what he's done before, but he heard nothing from it, felt nothing from it. It would be easy to think it just failed, and if there is some way to access the ring, it just didn't do it. And disappointed, he went to bed.
The next day is odd. Individuals mentioned to him about being surprised to see him again, or how he got to back to where he is so quickly. A few people running into him looked hurt, or angry at him, but none commented at it. Several strangers in the streets of Arx took one look at Martino and fled. Something certainly isn't right.
It's only later in his own home that Martino passes by a mirror and realizes he has no reflection at all.
