Academy Class: Investigation Techniques

Merek has hired a herald to post in public venues that the Academy will be teaching classes on investigation and its techniques. (Investigative Teaching up to 2 will be provided if desired). In addition to basic investigation, it will teach how people should use their secondary techniques of investigation. Whether charming ways through crowds or recalling what you already have in your memory, it will cover these things. There is no requirement to sign up, however it is expected that all will respect the institution while there. Donations to the Scholars of Vellichor in the form of assistance on tasks are welcome, but not required.

Merek is dressed in his sleek black robes lined with umbra, and the Fidante sigil upon the back. He has weapon upon hip, and his hood up, as he turns to the class. "Welcome to what is hopefully the first of many classes, today we will be learning a bit about investigation." He then waves a gloved hand about a bit, "Please take a seat and get some parchment and ink ready to take notes!"

Merek says, "ooc LOL"

Madeleine's robes are simple silk but they are the shining white of an Archlector. The sea-green trims and veil covering her hair with clouds and waves hint which one she is. "Oh lovely, education is so important. May I?" She keens her head and looks to a desk. Her bare feet pad on the stone and leave slightly sandy footprints behind.

Sitting off to the side is Halsim... also in a black robe, but unlike Merek, his is totally black, with no lining... only obvious pockets and lots of space. The man is writing into his notebook as he watches the proceedings.

It is true that Merek has his lined, with a sigil, and much for fanciness. He looks over to Halsim and nods a bit, then to Madeleine, and the others that arrive. "Yes, Archlector Madeleine if I'm not mistaken?" he offers. Out of respect he acknowledges Halsim little, perhaps a nod to knowing the man likes his privacy in public. "First, can anyone tell me what investigation 'is'. As in, not just the simple definition, but what it means to investigate?"

One student raises his hand and states, "A willingness to have an open mind." Merek blinks, "That's just the creed for being a scholar, anyone else?" he asks.

Madeleine nods as he names her, her sunny smile beaming. "Yes, indeed. Just back from my touring. Don't mind me," she says as she slips into the back, finding a place. "And patience," she adds to the discusison. "Lots of."

Madeleine has joined the Student Desks.

"Well patience is important, but," Merek uses some chalk on a board, some older recipe of such alchemical things, archaic. Limestone on black, "First and foremost, investigation is an entire branch of research. It is research, it is study, it is a series of techniques used to come to a conclusion, a truth. Used not just by scholars, but by law folk as well. Now the basics of investigation are simple, you find what you want to study. Someone from the class give me a topic, it can be anything," he offers.

Madeleine taps her finger on the desk as she ponders. When the students hesitate the Archlector calls out, "Cooking recipes." She's not one to shy from her food, certainly.

"Alright, well the first thing you want to do, is find a specific recipe as a point to start, then you choose your methods. The methods should relate to what you wnat to do. Of course basic investigation has you looking in books, rumors, and all that, but more specialized investigations, you will look in different places. Perhaps you visit the Palace cooks specifically, perhaps you even investigate through trying to make the recipes on your own, trial and error as they say. These are the points of interest for basic investigations," Merek tells the students, while he gets a few questions, and nods, writing more down. "As you draw closer to what you want to know, you'll want to start pooling resources to get things into motion, you will be looking in more specific areas of interest."

Madeleine chuckles warmly as he pontificates on the topic. "I'm an excellent cook, when it comes to ways to prepare fish," she jokes. "But that does sound about right; I'd sugest perhaps talk to the experts first before trying your hand at things. A burned snapper is a terrible thing."

Merek nods a bit, "Once you find what you want, it's time to cross-reference. This will note if what you have found is correct or not to the best of your knowledge. With this, you will be able to hopefully find a recipe you would like. In any case, do you all have any questions?" he asks.

Madeleine just shakes her head cheerily. "Seems fairly well put, and well in Vellechor's service." Her hands fold atop the desk primly.

"In that case, that's all for today's class, unless there is anything else. Tell your friends about us if you like, and we'll make sure to keep education going," Merek offers, while he nods a small bit.

Madeleine hasn't anything more to add. She just smiles her warm smile at the class.
