Heading back to Saikland for a few weeks. My presence is required to prepare for some expeditions that I shall be going on soon to uncover the secrets of the Lyceum (a never ending task!). While there I also hope to teach at the Bard's College at the newly established branch in Saikland. It will be nice to see how the faculty is shaping up, and to scout out any potential artists who might one day come to the City to display their skills.

Relationship Note on Iseulet

When I met Iseulet, I was pleasantly surprised by her ambition, even more than her beauty. She had drive and passion and she puts both into everything that she does. She applied that same drive to wooing me and securing my family's permission to marry me and make me her Marquis.

There is more than a flickering flame of affection for her -- I should find something that is unique and special to give to her as a gift. I guess that starts with finding out the best things that she enjoys. It is a path ahead for me to follow, and may it run long and through a great many lands. A song to be started, a symphony to be composed.

Relationship Note on Iseulet

-- The Marquessa of Estroch --

She lies on the beach in the moonlight,
her eyes are sapphire like the water of her seas.
in the darkness they flash, shining bright,
she is lush, waiting to be explored and seen.

She sleeps on her island,
and stops being herself.
She is free of the land,
she dances, like a sylph.

The vastness of the sea reaches,
and flows through her hair.
It is the color of beaches,
so blonde and fair.

So far from her origin shores,
the sun rises and the moon descends.
She reaches for desire and something more,
And in visa versa, the cycle never ends.

It is always good to enjoy dinner with the Saik family. I am not as close to the twins of Medeia and Neilda as I am with Lucita, but their company is enjoyable.

I had the honor of coming to the opening of the Jade Moon. While I did not get the chance to enjoy the food at the event -- it was something else to experience the music and drink and story of Zyanya and her mother. I look forward to speaking with Zyanya again as we have a shared interest in poetry, hers is so much differently structured than what I am used to. I wonder if it could be woven into music. And those instruments! I must learn more.

Relationship Note on Michael

The bull was brought to the Hart,
there'll be blood, whiskey and song.
Where men and women grit and sweat,
to see whose ride will go long.

First up the lovely Ladies,
mounting up for their quickly ride.
Halters on and knuckles white,
striding for victory and pride.

Next up the bucking bull,
as they drive men to the dirt.
Clinging on to make the time,
sometimes getting worse than hurt.

The brave young Lord Michael Bisland settles in,
rope tight around his hand.
So lonely there atop this girth,
but has to make his stand.

Does he chance this ride on death,
so grand is the first prize.
Having to ride with all he has,
there's thunder between his thighs.

The mighty bull snarls,
as the mirth turns to a hush.
Every eye upon the two,
as the crowd waits for the rush.

And then at the end of the day,
the time tallied, the wounds tended,
a new champion hailed, relations mended,
and in Michael's hands -- the Champion's Buckle lifted.

A friend recently shared a poem she had written and had asked for a critique of it. However, she also admitted that she was a poor poet and asked for forgiveness.

A sincere effort never should need forgiveness. The words may not be perfect rhymes, the cadence may not be fully on target.

But if you have placed your heart within the words, you have never failed in art.

The only time you should ever consider forgiveness is if your intent was to be harmful with your words. If you are attempting to besmirch Jayus or the subject of your poetry, then yes, forgiveness should be asked.

But never for the honest attempt.

--- The Political Marriage ---

In the political marriage, two become;
groom Prince and bride, soon-to-be Princess.
There are others that did the work -
to make this arrangement a success.

The High Lord who guides you,
dedicated to their land's well-being.
This is payment for the socially protected life of you,
and honor this, you will try to bring.

The marriage will be solemnized,
created in an air of joy and bliss.
Cementing a relationship between two families,
strengthening of new ties by marriage established.

In the High Lord, there is experience and knowledge,
it is with her and who she negotiates to know better.
She will know what is best or bad,
for their beloved cousin and author.

In love, marriage is the victory,
in the arranged, the spouse is the gift.
If there is no interference in their decision,
freedom of choice is forfeit.

You are in a room with no doors and a sealed roof,
you cannot escape for the freedom of the air.
Love tries to flow like water in the river,
without both banks, it will scatter.

Love that grows between two is
sometimes immature and driven by emotion,
it becomes terribly difficult to distinguish between
infatuation and Limerance's devotion.

Love will never necessitate marriage,
but a political match could compel one to love.
You may love many people or things,
but you cannot marry everyone.

Relationship Note on Calista

Thank you for the evening, Duchess of Roses. We shall have to dance again.

I made the most wonderful decision to visit the Fidante Villa last night and attend their Winter Festival. Calista was a most excellent hostess and I found myself enraptured by both the decor and the company. I had made a new outfit for the event and it went over very well, I believe. But there were some highlights for the night. The company of Narcissa, the dance with Esme, and then the utter sensuality of taking Duchess Fidante across the floor.

I nearly made it through the night without scandal, but Narcissa managed to catch me at the very end. I will need to have the outfit cleaned. But all in all? It was worth it. I highly recommend visiting the Fidantes if you get the chance, you will not be disappointed.

I return to town and get to visit sweet Lucita, I am glad she and the children are doing well.

Of course, I arrive to talk about marriage. Not my own of course.

But it's odd how some things change, some remain the same.

Relationship Note on Arn

As seen in the Sleepless Knights, your wisdom and note continues to highlight how every movement in your life before the Wheel had you a man wise beyond your years. May your advice and words then guide us through the next few months.

People of the Oathlands,

War is upon us. For some of you, this is your first opportunity to fight for your high lord. For others, it will be your last. For an unfortunate few, it will be both. In the end, it is in the hands of the gods when we live and when we die. While we live, we do what we can to protect those close to us, punish the wicked, and uphold the just. Have faith in the gods. Have faith in your commanders. Have faith in your lieges. Have faith in your high lord. Have faith in yourself. Above all, have faith in the men and women standing beside you in the field of battle. It is these people to whom you will entrust your life and your mission.

We go to war not for the petty grievances of men but for the survival of our people against a wicked foe. They do not attack us directly, but should the Lyceum fall or the Mourning Isles, or the North, or even the Crownlands - the Oathlands could not stand alone. We have no peer in faithfulness nor knighthood, yet even a land as strong as ours would fall if isolated.

Clear your minds, warriors of the Oathlands. Toughen your hearts. Say goodbye to your loved ones. To those who sail the seas, remember the words of Farshaw - The Horizon is Ours. To those who ride to Southport, remember the words of House Laurent - Loyal to the Queen. To those riding north with our high lord, show our enemies that steel bends but honor holds. But above all, Oathlanders:

FEAR NO ENEMY.

A fine day to see a quality cloth from the Oathlands make it to the city and to dress in. The colors that I can get to shine through the new velvet cloth will be beautiful, and without all the pattern.

Versatility and a fine cloth.

Time in the Hall of Heroes has helped prepare and focus the mind on the goal of writing a new piece suitable for the Bard's College to find stories from years gone past. The perfection in the sculptures, the solitude allowing reflection, meant for one of the first times in Arx I could write.

Taken myself to venture out to some of the taverns and places where there it is quieter to watch people in their most natural state. A keen favourite has been to sit myself in the beautiful Painted Muse and watch the reactions of some as they go from painting to painting.

For those that may have a song in your head, imagine being the bard! Those notes feed on us for longer before made public. It is why if you come across me in someplace quiet I am usually humming a low tune. Trying to find something new to replace it.

To have played before others, and organised other Bards to come forth, was something of the utmost pleasure to me.

While in Arx the inspiration can often be a challenge as the city seems to grip and reach around my music. Claiming it.

For once something beautiful was able to happen
